Why is it even called the 'KOP'

the only real KOP is liverpool as it was something to do with world war 2, and certain people from an area of liverpool fighting at the Kop?

As you can see my knowledge is very shady.

It's not the kop, its the south stand im afraid.

Spion Kop (or Kop for short) is the name for a number of terraces and stands at sports stadia; so named due to their steep nature, resembling a hill near Ladysmith, South Africa that was the scene of the Battle of Spion Kop in the Second Boer War.

So I got the war bit correct?

Hardly reflects Leicesters kop as its built exactly the same as the north stand?

No you got the wrong war lol and it has nothing to do with scousers.

The south stand is listed and as a kop for some reason, I don't think it's kop like but it is.

Leicester are one of about 16 clubs to have a 'kop' - it's in memory of the huge casualties/fatalities incurred by young men during the Boer War.

Many of those injured/killed were from the Liverpool area - hence the famous Kop there.

The first club to adopt the name was actually Arsenal (not called Arsenal at the time of course) but they 'dropped' the name when they moved their home ground elsewhere.

The Boer War also marked the first use of Concentration Camps by... (shock horror) the Brits.

Yes, I remember that too. And I remember cheering myself hoarse last season during the run in.

I have begged and begged for a change this season to positive, goalscoring football, sometimes to my own embarrassment.

But we've strangled ourselves with what has been idiocy at times, right from day one.

And now, we're predictably slipping into the quagmire of relegation.

I admire you for your hope and Fez too for his continued steadfastness.

But that's no reason to gently mock fans who feel differently or who watch football to be entertained and to see some thrills rather than accepting the prospect of ground-out 1-0's or shut-up-shop 4-5-1's on our travels.

It leaves me flat and judging by the noise around me in the Kop these days I'm not the only one.

I suppose it's why you got my vote last year as FoxesTalk fan of the year and were in my mind for it this year. I really can't fault your dedication and stoicness, nor would I want to.

And all I can say in my own defence is that perhaps, when our club finally wakes up plays the sort of football I envisage, even you might start enjoying games again because, apart from socially, I find it hard to imagine you celebrating the football we're playing right now or, indeed, the football we've served up for the most part of the last four years.

your decisions on wether to chant is decided by how many teenagers we have playing.

I don't remember being any less pleased for Fryatt or Kishishev at the reserves last night than I was for any other performer.

If my team is attacking, creating chances or scoring goals I'm happy as a bloke with a Barbars.

People like Davie Gibson, Frank Worthington, Tony Cottee, Derek Dougan, Steve Guppy were among my favourite City players of all time and that list, now I reflect on it, includes very few youngsters.

If people like Howard or Hume started taking defences to pieces do you seriously think I'd be pissed off cos they weren't teenagers or ex-Academy?

I've wanted Gradel kept here because he can do a certain job that's not being done and if Laczko's as good as Beswick right now then my eyes have been lieing to me.

I do get pissed of when good young players get muscled out in favour of unproven and unconvincing imports but you show me an Henri or a Bergatov at City and I'll be cheering loud as the next bloke.

If the fans put as much energy in to supporting the team as they did in praising the largely mediocre Hume (Huuuuuuuuuuuuuume!) then that would be a start.

lol @ our fans.

There too busy being chavs, thinking there too cool and singing were the left/right side.

Thats one thing i don't get about people who go to football matches and sit in the kop. They think they are 'too cool' to sing scared of what people around them would think. Then again most of the time when a person does that someone will look at him in utter disgust. Its hard to get anything going in that kind of atmosphere because i would say its a good 70% of the people in the kop that will just look at you with the filthiest look on thier face.

Its been like that ever since we moved too the Walkers and the upthier own arse fans jumped on the gravy train because it was a nice new stadium.

I sit at the back of the Kop as if I start to sing it generates the most atmosphere as five times out of ten someone will join in. If I sit anywhere else and start to sing no one joins in ever and I get the nearest twenty people to me staring at me like I have six heads.

Hume is what he is, but he's also our top scorer by a distance and was just the same last season.

Preston as well - the fans literally sucked in the ball for Nils' goal.

Fans making copious amounts of noise really can help the team, in my opinion.

The preston game's atmosphere was nuts, I was stood at the back of the stadium and loving it!! Yeah the more noise us fans make, the better the game's atmosphere will be but it doesnt mean that city will play any better. Even if we start on exactly 00,00 minutes chanting at the top of our voices solidly until 45,00 I doubt that we'll see any better football from our players than if we had't of bothered singing anything, I mean this is shitty we're talking about :giggle:

I'm about three rows from the back of the kop and everyone around me hardly makes noise, if somebody then instantly there stared at as though they contaminated or the walking undead. If the back rows start the chanting then usually most will join in I tend to find. But lately the people down towards the pitch just don't do anything.

Now there was a film - probably Arnie's finest.

Predator, Twins or Total Recall are three other good choices

Are you God, some omniscient being able to be three rows from the back and everywhere all at once?

By the way, you're absolutely wrong.

Could be yes.

Maybe I should have added Sir Fynwy to the post, but then again, it could still be viewed in the same light.

Meh. :P

I'd stop there. As the little Top Gear fella says, the possibilities are endless!

Another match like Preston would be special. But we don't want it to get to the stage where the fans feel they have to join in signing. It would be nice to just have it like that anyway.
