(loud bands and alarms tht is)
CKB Posted 27 February 2008 Posted 27 February 2008 I think i must be abit crazy? because from the fear/panic first i just can't stop cracking jokes about it all now Of course that will change when i wake up in the morning and realise i have no fooking chimney left!
Raj Posted 27 February 2008 Author Posted 27 February 2008 I live about 1/2 a mile away. lol lol I Live 1/4 a mile away. An average of 4.93 then. Did you know that 5.0 on the Richter Scale is actually 10 times more than one that would measure 4.0? You did know? Well fcuk off then!
Bert Posted 27 February 2008 Posted 27 February 2008 Aw, very diplomatic Anyone else just sitting around waiting for aftershocks? Yes me. That's why i thought it'd be fun to work the average out, whilst waiting for these aftershocks.
Raj Posted 27 February 2008 Author Posted 27 February 2008 Aw, very diplomatic Anyone else just sitting around waiting for aftershocks? I'll be awake til 6 am so im ready and waiting for the little bastards!
A fox for life Posted 27 February 2008 Posted 27 February 2008 A 4.6 magnitude quake in Colchester on April 22, 1884, was Britain's most damaging earthquake, knocking spires from churches and masonry from roofs. Turrets and parapets also fell, and brick walls and chimneys collapsed. Two people were killed. thats because leicester City FC landed on the earth :D Quote: CNN report on quake last paragraph
Bert Posted 27 February 2008 Posted 27 February 2008 I'm leaving my fallen picture frame where it landed as a memento of the event.
Louise Posted 27 February 2008 Posted 27 February 2008 Good thing there hasn't been a power cut then! Bet if there are any aftershocks we won't even feel them (kiss of death!).
Louise Posted 27 February 2008 Posted 27 February 2008 Anyone feel like sharing their experience: http://pasadena.wr.usgs.gov/shake/ous/STOR.../ciim_form.html
CKB Posted 27 February 2008 Posted 27 February 2008 Anyone feel like sharing their experience: http://pasadena.wr.usgs.gov/shake/ous/STOR.../ciim_form.html I might do that in the morning! when i find out i have no chimney left
Finnegan Posted 27 February 2008 Posted 27 February 2008 HAHAHA. Funny 'cos I was just talking about that with one of my mates. :crylaugh: fook off was that only like 4.7 if the one we had in 2002 was 5.1 Told ya so! Check the Beeb now. Epicenter near Grimsby, was a 5.1. Dudley one was 5.0.
Louise Posted 27 February 2008 Posted 27 February 2008 BGS now saying it was a 5.3 Growing by the second! ETA: here is the British survey: http://www.earthquakes.bgs.ac.uk/questionn...uestIntroA.html
LeeCovFox Posted 27 February 2008 Posted 27 February 2008 Certainly felt it in the Hinckley area - and pretty significant it seemed too.Definitely felt worse than the last one I remember while siting in school at Leicester Forest East as a seven or eight year old, over 50 years ago. If I hadn't heard the rumble first I'd have believed I was going to faint because the room started moving. Just shows how insignificant we all are really. This is the third I've felt and I'm only 24! I knew what it was straight away, but this is the only time I've felt slightly unnerved. Mainly because I'm on the 6th floor of a tower block in Coventry.

MC Prussian Posted 27 February 2008 Posted 27 February 2008 GET SOME SLEEP! Earthquakes in Europe are overrated. Wait... Back to the topic: It's said to be the worst earthquake in England in the past 18 years. Epicentre somewhere between Hull and Grimsby. No casualties, but damages to infrastructure.
AoWW Posted 27 February 2008 Posted 27 February 2008 That was seriously weird. Felt it pretty strongly here - lasted about 20 secs, I guess. Would have posted last night but my internet connection went down almost immediately afterwards. Coincidence?
