Thracian Posted 1 March 2008 Posted 1 March 2008 A clean sheet with Hendo in goal Seven in 28 League starts last season too with 36 goals conceded. He's really not as bad a deputy as people make out. In fact it sounded today like he'd be first choice at Cardiff!
davieG Posted 1 March 2008 Posted 1 March 2008 From the Northampton Chronicle Leicester manager Ian Holloway called his players "brave" after watching them steal a 1-0 win at Cardiff to ease their relegation worries. Defender Darren Purse's own goal eased the pressure on Ian Holloway as Leicester claimed a rare away victory with a 1-0 win at Cardiff. The Bluebirds defender had a moment to forget in the 27th minute at Ninian Park when he mishit a backpass beyond goalkeeper Peter Enckelman from 20 yards, but the home side could have no complaints with the result. The visitors dominated for long spells and both DJ Campbell and Steve Howard had chances to extend the advantage even further as the Foxes claimed only their third away win of the campaign. "I have not seen such a competent performance from my side since I have been at the club," said Holloway. "I asked my players before the game to be brave, stand up and be counted and I doubt whether you will find a better away performance than that. "We have restricted a very good passing side to few goal attempts and fully deserved our victory. It was a whole team effort and the players fully deserve their success. "We now need another victory straight away to get this club moving forward. Holloway, whose position has come under scrutiny in recent weeks, gave a debut to loan signing Lee Hendrie as he rang the changes.
maddog Posted 1 March 2008 Posted 1 March 2008 A superb win. I always knew we would win We are not out of it yet one bit, Sheff Wed still have their 2 games in hand. We are still in the relegation fight, if we lose to Preston, we will be even worse off than before today's game. I did say that if we finally got those back to back wins we would be safe, so lets get them. A MUST WIN still against Preston. Even if we win it theres 2 tough, tough away games after that. Sheff Wed and Sothampton got 1 point, S****horpe won. Cov still have a game in hand. A key victory and if we don't go down, this win would be the key 3 points that saved us.
Mort Posted 1 March 2008 Posted 1 March 2008 From the Northampton Chronicle Leicester manager Ian Holloway called his players "brave" after watching them steal a 1-0 win at Cardiff to ease their relegation worries. From what i heard "steal" sounds a bit harsh, we had more of the ball and created more than Cardiff... the only down side was out total failure to make that advantage really tell and despite DJ having a good game (subject to hearing what folks who were actually there have to say!) we still didnt get the ball in the back of the net after the Hendo inspired OG.

Thats my biggest concern. Essentially we're exactly where we were before the game, albeit with 3 more points. I don't think that game represented a reason for celebration any more than gloominess. If we looked sharp, good, but we still didn't put the ball in the net and that remains our biggest problem this season. Of course if people get back and tell me there was a shitload of "bad luck" and we played them off the field, I'll be slightly happier.

If we'd played the second half with the same attacking conviction as the first I think it would have been an outstanding performance in the circumstances from what I could gather. But you just knew the doubts would surface and I'm starting to wonder if we'll ever get a manager who will ever dare to continue attacking in the same numbers when we get in front as when we're level. Yes I know nerves were understandable today but there's every indication which could have buried today's game before halftime but we didn't. And once we'd scored something, in trms of attacking commitment, seemed to disappear and that got worse second half.
City_4_Life Posted 1 March 2008 Posted 1 March 2008 A good scrappy 3 points, just what we needed. Sounded like the defence was solid, as well as Henderson. Hopefully the same team will turn up tuesday night.

It was away, we havent won for ages away from home, they havent lost for a while at home. Ollie got his tactics spot on today. Give the man some credit.
Leicester Lass Posted 1 March 2008 Posted 1 March 2008 Just got back after what I would say has been my favourite away day of the season Nobody was really outstanding, just as nobody was poor. All in all a good team performance that we can hopefully build upon on Tuesday.
SamL Posted 1 March 2008 Posted 1 March 2008 Great result! Shame I missed the game but it was out of my hands so I really couldn't have made it. Hope everybody who went had a safe journey home. What was the atmosphere like today? Any outstanding chants?

The usual chants of Ingerland etc but I did enjoy '1-0 on St David's Day'

Bryn Posted 1 March 2008 Posted 1 March 2008 It's wins like this that teams build themselves on, not ones like Watford and Norwich. I think it's the perfect result for all concerned - we got the vital 3 points without making ourselves overconfident.

I'd rather see us grind out 1-0 wins than seeing us win by 3 or 4 once every blue moon.
Joe. Posted 1 March 2008 Posted 1 March 2008 Great day out today, one of the best of the season easily. Great performance from everybody involved and we fully deserved the win. Atmosphere was also very good and it was just pleasing to be there today. Chuffed with the result today, was a very important one with good results around us. Top stuff

The impression on the radio was that they were pretty ordinary - nothing like as dangerous as last year - but was that the case or did we just not let em play?
lildave3 Posted 1 March 2008 Posted 1 March 2008 Good result. Good day. Good atmosphere. Good performance. I liked.
Thracian Posted 1 March 2008 Posted 1 March 2008 Good result. Good day. Good atmosphere. Good performance. I liked. I'm really pleased for all you travelling fans. You've had a pretty miserable time of it since November and this must have been a welcome relief. Walshie talked about it being a genuine turning point. Do you or anyone else agree?
Maybes Posted 1 March 2008 Posted 1 March 2008 I am still yet to see a leicester city goal in my 3 visits to ninian park. I have seen us conceed 4 mind
