Fat Ron Posted 5 March 2008 Posted 5 March 2008 For so long I have been on here arguing with people to Give Ollie time, get behind the club and Milan and support Leicester City through thick and thin, after last nights game I am actually beginning to lose interest let alone patience with my home town club. Support through thick and thin I have, Shipman, Pleat, Little, Mcghee, O'Neill, Pierpoint, Taylor, Bassett, Adams, Levein, Kelly, Wortho, Allen, Megson and now Ollie. Promotions, Relegations, last minute winners at Wembley, Collymore Hat trick against Sunderland with O'Neill claiming us good enough to challenge for Champions League only for Heskey to be sold the following week, a new Stadium build with hype yet lacks the atmosphere of the old Filbert Street barn, Administration, La Manga, Wise, Name Changing possability back to Leicester Fosse. We have witnessed more ups and downs in the last 10 years than the majority of Football fans witness in a lifetime. We have seen the good, Lennon, Walsh, Elliott, Izzett, Ferdinand, Fulop to name a few We have also seen the bad, Junior Lewis, Kalac, Pressman, Akinbiyi (This list could go on for page after page!!) We have also seen the ugly, Keown. And what do we get for our years of torment and suffering? A kop that is so obviously placed at the wrong end of the ground, Pies that can only be described as lukewarm at the best of times, Flat & expensive beer, Raising Ticket prices, Inconsistent & under performing players earning more in a week than most fans can earn in a year. Our Club wants to fill the stadium, not for the atmosphere & not to give our players an advantage on the pitch (that would seem a tad trivial at times I might add!) but to line their own pockets. Milan came in with so much hype. But we are no where near where we should be let alone want to be. Pre season talk of Play offs and promotion to the Premier League and yet here we are at the final stretch of the season within 4 points of the bottom 3 and Relegation to League 1. The team go from one extreme to the other, Beating Norwich 4-0 then losing to Coventry 0-2, we beat Cardiff at their place 1-0 only to lose to Preston on our own turf. I have watched children's Sunday league teams with more confidence, passion and consistency. Some times its easy to put a loss down to bad luck or dodgy refereeing decisions but in honesty we have played 36 League games and the simple truth is, we have not been anywhere near good enough. I, like so many have given the best years of my life supporting this Football club yet it appears that the people involved with the Club are not prepared to lay their lives down as we have. I am getting to the point where I do not want to follow a team that does not share the belief and passion that I do, afterall why should I or you waste hard earned money and time to follow a club that doesn't listen to its fans and a team that do not perform to their potential or show the same commitment on the pitch as the droves of fans in the stands. Looking at AFC Wimbledon and what they have achieved since claiming their Club back, the passion is there, the will is there, the commitment and dedication is there. It ponders the question, is it time to change allegiance? EDIT : Loop to Luke... Ooops!!!

But if, and when, we get better as a team, maybe back in the Premiership, will you return? Dont get me wrong, I aint no Glory grabbing supporter. Its not about being in the Premiership or playing the top clubs. Its about Passion, Desire, committment & ability. Something this club severly lacks at the moment. The club are giving no reasons for fans to stay, I was not the only person to pay a small fortune to watch last nights game and for what?? I wish I had stayed in the warm with my kids.
Mort Posted 5 March 2008 Posted 5 March 2008 You cant stop supporting your team... you cant even really stop caring no matter the dross they serve up and the depths they sink to... having said that you can get to a point where you just ignore the whole sorry mess and suddenly football becomes a good deal less interesting as you no longer have that link to a single team, even if you've got a "second" team it's not the same!

Zingari Posted 5 March 2008 Posted 5 March 2008 Isn't delusion a mental illness you don't need to be mad to support leicester , but it does help
Fat Ron Posted 5 March 2008 Author Posted 5 March 2008 You talk about 'switching allegiances' - can you honestly say you ever could? Honestly, very doubtful. As other posters have mentioned, tried with no success. It just pains me so much that we (supporters) throw everything at the club, and get absolutly **** all in return.
Corky Posted 5 March 2008 Posted 5 March 2008 Compared to a few clubs, we've had it easy. You think of Notts County, top flight 16 years ago, now near the bottom of League 2. Cambridge- that play-off result destroyed them, on the verge of the Premiership, now in the Conference. Bradford- top flight 7 years ago, now League 2. Wimbledon/MK Dons- Need I say more. I admit I feel like you at times, but my love of Leicester City will never go, however hard I may try. I would miss it badly. It is tough at the moment, but look at the clubs I've just mentioned. It could be a whole lot worse.

Fair enough but that wasn't after throwing £11mill at the team although at least it's not £60 mill like leeds
purpleronnie Posted 5 March 2008 Posted 5 March 2008 I dont go to any home games anymore, why would i? You cant support the team the way you want, I'm not interested in sitting on my hands and paying £20+ for the privilege. So I started to go away games but I have to say I'm pretty dissapointed with that too, was a time where leicester fans would take over, all standing to a man creating great atmospheres, that has gone also. Now with my job and with the travelling it involves, and for the past few years actually living abroad for 6 months a year I would rather save my money and go to games in the USA. There I can stand, wave flags, drink beer (whilst watching the game), all with like minded fans, hell I can let off smoke bombs if I wish, all for £9 a ticket (with free beer). Sorry but even if Leicester were in the premiership I doubt I'll be tempted back. I would probably instead go and watch shepshed or coalville town.

It ponders the question, is it time to change allegiance? A brilliant post which sums up exactly how I feel without having to go through the lengths of writing it myself I could never change allegiance however, unless it was drastic like our club being bought and relocated to another city (like American footballs and MK Dons) It wouldn't feel like my team then, and thats the only scenario I could change allegiance. BUT I am totally sick of the shite we have been serving up in recent yrs.. I too have been through it before (My first season ticket aged 9 was the 'Pleat out/Shipman out' era. I'll admit I didn't go last night. I live in Birmingham now so not exactly far, and hour each way at that time to get to/from again. Petrol money, ticket cost, other expenses etc add up. I chose not to go not because of the financial aspect, but because my passion for this club is the lowest its ever been. I didn't even listen to the commentry, and yet I knew we'd lost even before I checked the score at 11pm. Part of me feels ashamed that I feel I'm turning my back on MY club, part of me simply has given up caring about the club until the club cares about us again. In my time growing up as a fan i've had season tickets for 19 years, worked in the ground as Filbert St as a waiter, sold programmes outside the ground, been Mascot, and gone through entire seasons without missing a match home & away.. Leicester City has been as much of a part of my life as anything else has and i'm as much of a fan as anyone on here. I think this is my only 4th post but i've been reading these boards daily for 2 yrs Mabye last nights attendance says a lot about how we are all feeling... lets not forget that in 1990/91 our attendances were only around 10/11000 average anyway - then we got good and a whole new generation of fans joined in and were welcomed - we were all united. Now its ebbing away again.. Make no bones about this - we are in big trouble, and to those who are saying 'relax we won't go down' dont tempt fate.... Man City, Leeds, Forest are all bigger than us and did the same - only Man City have recovered (sorry for any typos, i'm at work and keep having to check over my shoulder ) PS, Incase anyone asks, I was mascot against Barnsley at Filbo in the FA Cup around 1990... we lost 2-1.. city scorer - Alan Paris!
Fat Ron Posted 5 March 2008 Author Posted 5 March 2008 A brilliant post which sums up exactly how I feel without having to go through the lengths of writing it myself Cheers!!! Seems Im not alone in my lost thoughts for Leicester City!! PS, Incase anyone asks, I was mascot against Barnsley at Filbo in the FA Cup around 1990... we lost 2-1.. city scorer - Alan Paris! I was at that game!! David Currie scored for Barnsley I believe, Bring back the Family enclosure!!
Floating Fox Posted 5 March 2008 Posted 5 March 2008 I'd agree with you to some extent about the passion & commitment etc and I definatly wouldn't give this club much more of my money but I could never turn my back completly unless there was something drastic (Like someone said an MK American style move etc). It does however worry me that it is only going to get worse, with more money being flaunted around. I can safely say my game attendences will drop in years to come.

Now its ebbing away again.. I think last night's attendance is not just down to people losing interest. It was a freezing cold, or to quote JB, Jet Black and rather nippy tuesday evening and we're playing a bottom 4 team. It doesnt scream out to me as something to spend money on. Attendance will for sure be better on Saturday.
Alexikokopops Posted 5 March 2008 Posted 5 March 2008 And what do we get for our years of torment and suffering? Loop warm?! What the hell is loop warm?! Luke warm.
Monk Posted 5 March 2008 Posted 5 March 2008 Pies that can only be described as loop warm at the best of times, I'd like to try one of these 'loop warm' pies. Are they similar to lukewarm? Our Club wants to fill the stadium, not for the atmosphere & not to give our players an advantage on the pitch (that would seem a tad trivial at times I might add!) but to line their own pockets. So you're suggesting that the only reason we built the stadium is for profit to be taken out of LCFC by our owners? I'm sorry but that is bollocks. Ticket sales pay the wages and keep the club going on a day to day basis, just like they did before Milan came in. If there is any lining of pockets it will be when Milan sells the club on. Name me a club that allows spectators for purely non financial reasons and I'll try one of those pies.
Floating Fox Posted 5 March 2008 Posted 5 March 2008 Name me a club that allows spectators for purely non financial reasons and I'll try one of those pies. Fc United. And most german teams. Enjoy the pie.
lildave3 Posted 5 March 2008 Posted 5 March 2008 Did he just mention Fulop in the same league as Elliott and co?
Manwell Pablo Posted 5 March 2008 Posted 5 March 2008 Fc United. And most german teams. Enjoy the pie. They don't admit fans for purely non financial reasons do they? They have a good atmoshpere etc etc but at the end of the day they're out to make money just as Leicester are.
