Matt Posted 24 March 2008 Posted 24 March 2008 Thought I might as well make a build-up thread for the game, Not that i'm that bothered about it tbh, Got abit more intrest due to seeing what Capello's going to do I spose. Anyway just come up on Sky Sports News; Breaking News; Thierry Henry pulls out of the French squad for the game against England.
lookwhaticando Posted 24 March 2008 Posted 24 March 2008 I found it brilliantly amusing when the commentators at the weekend picked up on the worrying 'injuries' to key players in the England squad. "Rooney's moving a little gingerly at the minute, that's bad news for England" Ermm, how's it bad news exactly? So we lose Rooney for a friendly... the only thing that's important about this friendly is that it's against the old enemy, a country we have fought and been in competition with for at least the last 400 years. If it was a friendly against some tin pot little footballing shithouse like Andorra, then it wouldn't matter at all that Rooney was injured... in fact, it'd at least give Capello an excuse to try someone else for a change.
Big Ol' Bob Posted 24 March 2008 Posted 24 March 2008 Rob Green is in for Kirkland. Seems very odd, Green only has his chance when Kirkland of all people is injured. And for christ sake get Beckhams cap out of the way so we can all move on and then he can rot in America. ****.

Bit harsh. Always gives his all for his country. Be nice if you could say the same for other members of the squad.
purpleronnie Posted 24 March 2008 Posted 24 March 2008 My prediction if england win, the press and fans go completely over the top making Capello a new god and making england favourites to win the world cup. And then once we play a game that means something we lose and Capello is the worst manager ever. or maybe I'm being too cynical?
Joe. Posted 24 March 2008 Posted 24 March 2008 I'm actually really looking forward to it. I know it's only a friendly but it's France, and they should prove a very good test for us. I always like seeing England play against the "bigger" sides and this one should be a decent match.
Uncle Albert Posted 24 March 2008 Posted 24 March 2008 This should be a good International game, better than the Swiss game. Was disappointed to see that Benzema has pulled out of the squad though.
Tommy G Posted 25 March 2008 Posted 25 March 2008 This should be a good International game, better than the Swiss game. Was disappointed to see that Benzema has pulled out of the squad though. Mee too, he's an exciting player to watch. I hope Utd snap him up next season so he plays in the prem.
Jack Posted 25 March 2008 Posted 25 March 2008 Ferdinand Named Captain Didn't expect this one. Thought it would of been either Terry or Gerrard.
Simi Posted 25 March 2008 Posted 25 March 2008 Happy with Ferdinand as captain to be honest. Terry and Gerrard haven't really excelled in that role. Maybe Terry's actions for Chelsea had an effect.
Samilktray Posted 25 March 2008 Posted 25 March 2008 Chuffed Rios captain. I still expect us to get beat though.
purpleronnie Posted 25 March 2008 Posted 25 March 2008 I cant see France really giving a crap england always seem to put more importance on friendlies. Remember when we beat the current european champions Greece 4-0 it was mcClarens first game and everyone was going on about who great we were and then we start playing competitive matches and we look poor. Of course its always nice to win but it doesnt really matter what happens.
Simi Posted 25 March 2008 Posted 25 March 2008 Rio!!!! Benzema 1st goal England 2-1. This should be a good International game, better than the Swiss game. Was disappointed to see that Benzema has pulled out of the squad though.
Uncle Albert Posted 25 March 2008 Posted 25 March 2008 Can someone please give me a valuable reason for Rio Ferdinand being England captain. I could understand if he was club captain for Manchester United but he is 3rd choice for them.
purpleronnie Posted 25 March 2008 Posted 25 March 2008 Can someone please give me a valuable reason for Rio Ferdinand being England captain. I could understand if he was club captain for Manchester United but he is 3rd choice for them. Why should it matter who's captain?
Uncle Albert Posted 25 March 2008 Posted 25 March 2008 Why should it matter who's captain? Because he is our leader of out National Side. 3rd choice for his club team and then captains his National team. Come on!
Samilktray Posted 25 March 2008 Posted 25 March 2008 Because he is our leader of out National Side. 3rd choice for his club team and then captains his National team. Come on! Who was David Beckham captain of during his stint as England captain? Was he a bad captain? I didnt think so, may not have been hugely vocal but he led by example.
