Jay Posted 28 March 2008 Posted 28 March 2008 HERE IT IS OK I know it's not my go until Monday BUT I uploaded it at work so it's ready to go!! I think most people know I love some nice angry music with lots of guitars and so on so this might surprise a few, I have decided to do something a bit different to the norm, as my taste is so eclectic it's hard to get it all in in 100mb so Foxestalk 3 will no doubt be very different again The tracklist with the order being pretty important is as follows 1 U.N.K.L.E ft Autolux - Persons and Machinery 2 The Postal Service - The District Sleeps Alone Tonight 3 LCD Soundsystem - North American Scum 4 NIGO - Free Diving 5 Le Loup - Outside of this Car the car... the end of the world 6 Coldcut - Man In a Garage 7 Major Force - Get Happy! 8 Peanut Butter Wolf ft Dudley Perkins - Flowers 9 The Freestyle Fellowship - Sunshine Men 10 Blackalicious - Swan Lake 11 Dan the Automator ft Kool Keith - King of NY 12 Quantic - Blow Your Horn 13 U.N.K.L.E - Rabbit in your headlights 14 FINK - Make it Good well make of it what you will....
Fez of Mahrez Posted 28 March 2008 Posted 28 March 2008 1 U.N.K.L.E ft Autolux - Persons and Machinery Great idea to open with this. Anything with that forceful, driving beat is onto a winner to start with. I love the Radiohead-ish (at a push) guitar work as well. And the organ too, which seems to underlie most good songs on these compilations so far. 8/10 2 The Postal Service - The District Sleeps Alone Tonight Already a big fan of this. 9/10 3 LCD Soundsystem - North American Scum One of my favourite songs of last year. Superb album. Incidentally, James Murphy sounds like he has a cold on this track so I can sing along quite accurately at the moment. 10/10 4 NIGO - Free Diving It's okay. It doesn't grab me quite like the first three tracks. 6/10 5 Le Loup - Outside of this Car the car... the end of the world Really like the percussion on this. Never heard of them but one I will be exploring further. 8/10 6 Coldcut - Man In a Garage An album I have been meaning to get ever since it came out but never got round to. Love the guitar. This is really good. 9/10 7 Major Force - Get Happy! This sounds like proper old skool hip-hop. 7/10 8 Peanut Butter Wolf ft Dudley Perkins - Flowers Reminded me of Outkast. Enjoyed it a lot. Again, one I shall be looking into further. 8/10 9 The Freestyle Fellowship - Sunshine Men Sounds so much like one of the blokes from De La Soul. Just looked it up on Google, didn't recognise Aceyalone although I love the Magnificent City album he did with RJD2. Trying to place the sample. It usually has a swooping... ah, that's just kicked in for a couple of bars. This is going to annoy me, I can't seem to find where it's from. Anyway, not heard this before and it's fantastic. 9/10 10 Blackalicious - Swan Lake Love this. It's not on any of the three Blackalicious albums I've got so thank you! 9/10 11 Dan the Automator ft Kool Keith - King of NY Excellent stuff. The bassline kills it. 8/10 12 Quantic - Blow Your Horn Wouldn't have picked this off that album but it fits in well with the hip-hop stuff on here. Not a massive fan of this track to be honest although the guy on it sounds a bit like Black Thought from The Roots which is good. 7/10 13 U.N.K.L.E - Rabbit in your headlights Good video! Decent song. 7/10 14 FINK - Make it Good I enjoyed it. Reminded me of Something In The Way by Nirvana for some reason. 8/10 ----------- Excellent stuff Jay. Loads of stuff on here I'm not familiar with and really enjoyed.
General Smuts Posted 29 March 2008 Posted 29 March 2008 I can see a couple of pearlers on there already, namely Coldcut and The Postal Service. Im gonna breeze through 7-10 tommorrow and then im considering doing a mix that people might like instead of one i knew you'd all hate!

I used the Quantic tune as a sort of transition song from the Hip Hop down the UNKLE and then closing with Fink so that it moved along nice and smooth Major Force is a bit of classic Japanese Hip Hop as for the freestyle fellowship it's tune and a half imo a real undiscovered jem from the early 90's the album is on emusic by the way
Jay Posted 2 April 2008 Author Posted 2 April 2008 Is that it you miserable feckers!!!! all that time and effort I went into selecting tracks and I get 1 (very good) bit of feedback! you still have 2days left to download!!
Lillehamring Posted 2 April 2008 Posted 2 April 2008 Is that it you miserable feckers!!!! all that time and effort I went into selecting tracks and I get 1 (very good) bit of feedback! you still have 2days left to download!! i've just downloaded it, not really my thing normally, so i'm not sure what to expect, but i love postal service and (oops) the, ahem, 'reviewer' mentioned de la soul, so i'll give it a go... thing is whoever decided we should upload one a day is either on the dole or a student, and probably doesn't have a girl/boyfriend... so you'll just have to be patient edit: yes, thought so, the 'reviewer' was fez.
Daggers Posted 2 April 2008 Posted 2 April 2008 I know Jay's taste in angry music overlaps mine to a large extent and so I'm looking to enjoy this and most of it is new to me. So, here we go 2-3-4 1 U.N.K.L.E ft Autolux - Persons and Machinery Brilliant start. I'm loving the conflict between the ethereal and the percussion. I can overlook the simplistic lyrics thanks to the looping chords and chants - this will be replayed any minute now, louder. 2 The Postal Service - The District Sleeps Alone Tonight I've listened to two PS songs prior to this one and disliked both enough to prevent me from bothering to look further, but I'm enjoying this enough that this will now join a 'to listen to' list. 3 LCD Soundsystem - North American Scum This is awsome. Three tracks in and I am loving this mix. Another trip to Isohunt. Another late night date with Winamp and a bottle of wine. (and I'm not even going to mention the crushing similarity with this and Doctorin' The Tardis) 4 NIGO - Free Diving Right, at this point I decide Jay can do no wrong ~ four out of four. Either this mix complements my current mood or my current mood has been moulded by this mix. 5 Le Loup - Outside of this Car the car... the end of the world I was about to bemoan the death of the mix. At 1 minute and 30 seconds my fingers lay poised. At 1'37'' I was about to type. Then at 1'38'' we launch. The impact of the shift in the song increased due to the one and a half minutes that preceded it. Wow, I never expected to end the track liking it. 6 Coldcut - Man In a Garage I don't have a garage anymore, we couldn't afford a house with one. If I did, I would play this while working on my motorbike. I don't have a motorbike but I'm going to get one when I get a garage. 7 Major Force - Get Happy! I want an album. 8 Peanut Butter Wolf ft Dudley Perkins - Flowers Great, something I don't like. This is a track that they play in places in London where everyone else in there thinks they're better than me. They probably are but that gives them no reason to rub my face in it by playing a track like this. I hate London. 9 The Freestyle Fellowship - Sunshine Men Loved it. Seriously loved it. 10 Blackalicious - Swan Lake The kids have now moved into the front room so they can listen too - they love the mix as well. 11 Dan the Automator ft Kool Keith - King of NY 12 Quantic - Blow Your Horn ...I'm well chuffed with this still... 13 U.N.K.L.E - Rabbit in your headlights I think I need to invest in some trip-hop - it makes Thom Yorke sound better, it must be good. 14 FINK - Make it Good Wow. Is the album as good as this? I'm seriously impressed Jay - I thought this mix was immense. I'm going to cut two tracks now and burn it. Brilliant.
hairy Posted 3 April 2008 Posted 3 April 2008 1 U.N.K.L.E ft Autolux - Persons and Machinery 2 The Postal Service - The District Sleeps Alone Tonight 3 LCD Soundsystem - North American Scum 4 NIGO - Free Diving 5 Le Loup - Outside of this Car the car... the end of the world 6 Coldcut - Man In a Garage 7 Major Force - Get Happy! 8 Peanut Butter Wolf ft Dudley Perkins - Flowers 9 The Freestyle Fellowship - Sunshine Men 10 Blackalicious - Swan Lake 11 Dan the Automator ft Kool Keith - King of NY 12 Quantic - Blow Your Horn 13 U.N.K.L.E - Rabbit in your headlights 14 FINK - Make it Good Gave it a listen through this morning. Love Autolux and never heard this before so thanks for that. LCD is brilliant, the best track of last year and thanks for the introduction to FINK I will seek more of their output later. The rest I could leave but thats my tastes.

The People's Hero Posted 30 May 2008 Posted 30 May 2008 I should have posted to say - I really enjoyed this mix. I have been playing it in my car so don't know which tracks are which apart from the LCD Soundsystem one (which is one of my favourite tracks) - but overall, it's a winner! Thanks Jay. ps my girlfriend hates it.
