Losing Young Fans

I still don't understand why we have music after the goals surely the noise from the fans after scoring is a huge part of the atmosphere but its drowned out by this stupid music.

Does anyone know why we have it?

I emailed leicester about it and they said it was the managers idea to have Chelsea dagger when I replied asking them whether the manager was asked if he wanted music played after a goal they didnt reply.

For controlling the monkeys fans

Yeah, the manager. (Martin Allen)

With the greatest of respect, that's simply untrue (apart from the cost bit which I totally agree with).

As a kid I wanted to go back to games to experience the match - not see a win. We weren't a table-topping team back in the 70's and we're not likely to be in the future either and so the solution is two-fold, reduce prices and increase the matchday experience.

Currently, the dumb****s at the club have no idea how to go about the latter and no intention of doing anything but increasing the former. Crap Miss Leicester contestants, happy clapping and a five second walk-past by a man in a fox suit isn't it.

I appreciate what you're saying but I can't help thinking you're remembering the past with rose tinted specs.Even in the Jock Wallace era we must have only averaged 18,000( that's a guess, I'm sure some stato will know) gates and tickets were proportionately cheaper then.In the Pleat era it wasn't unusual for gates of around 12,000/14,000.

Last week after a big win against WBA and a lot of cheap tickets we got 30,000+, I'm sure a good proportion of those were in the 18-30 age group.

There is nothing more boring than losing every week, I'm sure if we have a good season next year the fans will be back.

Sounds great!

Why can't the majority our fans have some passion? I long for the day!

Leicester fans "were" amongst the most passionate around , once we moved it all went wrong . I know it was "progress" but there is nothing more in this world i miss than Filbo  .

I got a cheap ticket, and to be quite frank - Didn't enjoy seeing a crap game with no fun in the stands (And being man-handled by the stewards ) even though I only paid three quid.

The club can keep doing these cheap subsidised tickets (That means they don't make any more money) and attract the big twice-a-season crowds but thats not going to be the solution.

I agree that good football will attract more people, and the good football will in turn raise the atmosphere a notch-or-two as we have a lot of people who only come out to Watch Frank Lampard & Stevie Gerrard but the problem still exsits with the younger (Teenage+) fans.

I went to a game in Belguim (SV Zulte Waregam) and they had a little terrace which was packed with kids (And Most of their supporters were fairly old) who were all waving their flags and then the slightly older ones were at the back of this small terrace with a drum etc. They had even got a sweet stall outside for the really young ones. The club had even been kind-enough to build into their stadium a small fans clubhouse which these lads owned. It was quite impressive and showed you the difference of how the club value their fans.

I think that good football would obviously raise the attendence but it shouldn't be that way, you should go to the game, and have a good time regardless of the result - Which clearly isn't what happens here.

Yet another fan seeing Filbo with rose-tinted glasses..

I watched games there for nearly three decades. Three sides of the ground (plus the upper tier of the fourth) were usually as mute as the Way is now.

Obviously the successes of the O'Neill years linger longest in the memory, but I also remember plenty of times where pens of the Kop were left empty due to lack of interest.

Given the sh!te football played, not only during this season but in the previous three, we do fantastically well to retain the fan base we have - of any age group.

And lest we forget, yesterday's crowd for the most unglamorous of opponents, was bigger than any seen in the Premier League era at Filbo.

It's worth reminding everyone that...

Leicester City are among 32 clubs from all three divisions of The Football League to attain the new 'Football League Family Excellence Award'. The Award is presented in recognition of the truly outstanding experience we provide for young fans and families at our ground.

Yeah the 90s were my years in the kop so rather than "rose tinted glasses" as you so elegantly put it put it , to me it was fooking brilliant and there hasnt been 1 game for atmosphere in this plastic shithole that compares to filbo in "my" era .

Daggers and Tommo have hit the nail right on the head.

But try telling that to the club. Jamie, Andy and I all raised this point when we had a meeting with the club, and they simply feel that it is not the case. Also, when they're being awarded with awards like Family Excellence they will just laugh in your face. The problem starts at the top and because the club want to worship the FA and become their favourite they do everything possible to match the aims and objectives set by the big-wigs.

With the introduction of Chelsea Dagger and the like, kids are being sold the new brand of football. The plastic one. One which most adults taking their kid to a game would not expect. One where noise is not encouraged but attempted to be stopped.

Sky are also helping with the downfall as well by glorifying anything one of the Premiership teams do. It's a sad thing to happen, but while the football is crap and the experience is plastic, we will keep losing fans.

Yet the club will be preaching about how they want to young blue army to get behind the lads, yet all they will know is squeezing a horn and dancing to Chelsea Dagger.

When the club first introduced free for U8's we said "great for this season" but then suggested in subsequent seasons they needed to target different age brackets so 9-12, then 13-16, then 17-22 but it wasn't really followed.

We have also referred to a survey by the Football Research Unit which showed our 18-30 age range as a % of total support was well below the average & one of the worst in our division & we did discuss this with the club

Just to add the so called match day experience should be inclusive of all age groups; they've catered for the younger fan and probably the older fan but the 18 to 30 group are completely ostracised. The first thing they need to do is create an unreserved seating area for adults only, 16+ with no concessions and dare i say it police it with a modicum of intelligence and turn a blind eye to some standing.

The main reason we were given for not having an unreserved area was that the Safety Group would reduce the capacity of the ground if it was done.

At this point in time, who cares, we haven't sold out this season & we all know the only 30k+ crowd was due to 1,000's of £5 tickets, so it wouldn't hurt at all to have an unreserved area - the location within the ground would be an interesting topic, it certainly wouldn't be next to the away fans & we would suspect the club would choose an area with the least number of ST holders to move - that would suggest the North or West stand

Nobody could convince me that there was anywhere near 22165 in attendance yesterday - more like 17K

Pfffft. As if we have a problem with younger fans. Filbert Fox, Under 8's go free in the Family Stand, heavily discounted tickets, Club Shop full of quality merchandise and the added pulling power of Matty Fryatt all adds up to:

FAMILY CLUB OF THE YEAR 2007/2008 WINNER!!!!

They include all STHs in the attendence.

The real attendence is displayed in the Security box upstairs...!

I have a couple of toddlers\infants and unfortunately there not too bothered about the footy. The main reasons:

a: FIlbert Fox doesn't interact enough with the kids, one bloody fox covers a whole stand is not good enough

b: Unfortunately the 'atmosphere' within the ground is crap, hence as most spectators get bored the kids are 10 times as bored

c: Half time entertainment is crap

d: Merchandising within the stands or the concourse do not interest kids

Pricing wise, and value wise, the cinema or a theme park is better!!

young people ought to be doing something more rewarding than watching overpaid twats kick a ball around anyway
