I was working on an essay last night on Microsoft Word - when I tried to save it on to my memory stick it wouldn't allow me to do it. I can't remember the error messages which popped up, but then it shut down Word and the laptop crashed.

I then tried to search my computer for the file - the only file I could find was a rescued document saved in Notepad. Unfortunately it's lost most of the text and been replaced by symbols, mostly question marks. I've tried putting it back in to Word - still the same outcome.

I've looked on the internet for help without success.

Sounds like the file or memory stick is fuc ked - I don't know how I'm going to be able to retrieve this. :dunno:

1) Are you Harry Potter

2) Do you own a wand

3) can you perform miracles

If you answer no to all the above... get typing.

You can't.

A temp file would have been created but the likelihood of this still existing is minimal.

Word doesn't have an autosave feature.

I think.

Mine does and it auto-recovers too.

Yeah, but you have to turn them on - default is off I believe ( I have auto-save every 5 mins (Can't type that fast anyway :P))

Draw 4/5 stick pictures summarising what you were trying to explain. Tell teacher/lecturer that " A picture tells a thousand words" , look smug, and walk off.

Return 4 hours later for detention.

I don't think universities 'do' detentions, so there's nothing to hold me back! Yeah!

As it seems a hopeless case, I've started again and I'm halfway through it.

Massively frustrating though.

Someone on the radio yesterday said they lost all work for a 16,000 worder, and two 6,000 worders after spilling something on their laptop. No backups of anything and in for next month. Sounds devastating >_<

Should be less clumsy :)

OR, more realistically, sign yourself up for a course that involves no essays.

Something like art, or another useless degree :giggle:
