Flexx Posted 7 April 2008 Posted 7 April 2008 Why do all of our players go to one side of the field when Hendo kicks it from a goal kick? If a player just wandered over the the other side he would be in acres of space. Am i missing something. It was noticable a lot against Scunny at home.

Flexx Posted 7 April 2008 Author Posted 7 April 2008 Just the way the goal kicks go. Surely Hendo has enough skill to kick a ball diagonally. Or does he.....
Flexx Posted 7 April 2008 Author Posted 7 April 2008 And by the time it reached him he wouldn't. Even so, at least the ball wouldn't land in a completely cramped out area.
lavrentis Posted 7 April 2008 Posted 7 April 2008 Even so, at least the ball wouldn't land in a completely cramped out area. The players though wouldn't stay in that area though they would go to their positions so in theory it doesn't really matter where it does land.
mancunianfox Posted 7 April 2008 Posted 7 April 2008 The players do that because they know Henderson can't kick the ball properly and he will always end up putting into the same part of the field. No matter how many times I see it though it never fails to amaze me.

Sometime I can't help but to shout at the dumbasses to switch sides - a bit like they do in rugby from kick-off and shock the opposition.
DB11 Posted 7 April 2008 Posted 7 April 2008 The opposition do it too... And if a player wondered over to the other side he wouldn't be on his own... all the LCFC players are being marked.
davieG Posted 7 April 2008 Posted 7 April 2008 It's all to do with minimising risks, condense the play and restrict opportunities. As DB said many teams do it.
Corky Posted 7 April 2008 Posted 7 April 2008 I know what you mean. Whenever we have a goal-kick you just wait for the players to wander over to Henderson's left, then he clears the ball. If one player moved to the other side they would have a clear run at the opposition. Or maybe that's a bit too technical for our team, or they can't just work out the obvious.
DJ Barry Hammond Posted 7 April 2008 Posted 7 April 2008 The only differation I've seen from goal kicks is David James who kicks from the centre - but I haven't really noticed how the team fans out for those. One thing is - it's not easy to kick the ball away succesfully from the 'slot' position when taking a goal kick if you understand what I mean. You generally have to be facing the way your kicking, so if there is some bloke on the other side, you'd have to turn to face him. Lets face it - Hendo's aiming for Howard generally - now I'd want my striker to stand about 5-10 yards away from the space i'd been aiming, and run straight across to head it - do they do that, do they fook, but when they do it works quite well. (discounting shanks out of play, to other players, falling on my arse, striker falling on arse, defender winning header.) But i digress.

With Hendo kicking, Howard would have to start his run in the stands...
Basingstoke Fox Posted 7 April 2008 Posted 7 April 2008 They all have to guess which way the kicks going to go and they all guessed the same

It can be almost funny watching opposing wingers walk into space.
Legend_in_blue Posted 7 April 2008 Posted 7 April 2008 It's not just goal-kicks! Our players ball watch so much its incredible. It can be almost funny watching opposing wingers walk into space. What annoys me with the goal-kicks is the lack of variety with them. Just like corners. As soon as you boot a ball up to any front man, it becomes 50/50 as to whether you win it or not. If it doesn't work, why persist? Play the ball short, keep it on the floor and build up play from the back. ALONG THE GROUND. Yes? Simple. Not for us obviously. We don't do simple. We do something quite unique. Surely if one method, tried and tested beyond belief, doesn't work, do something else. Be unpredictable. It works in Pro Evo - you play it short and pass the ball around. Easy.
SantiagoFox Posted 7 April 2008 Posted 7 April 2008 They've been doing this for ages - not just with Hendo. And other teams too. I was always taught to look for a bit of space, not all wander off into the same space. Bizarre - must be part of the FA's much prized coaching badge.
