James. Posted 12 April 2008 Posted 12 April 2008 Make that 3 games left to save our season. It seems we can't rely on Holloway to get these players motivated and we can't rely on the players to motivate themselves. We also can't rely on tactical nuance, on individual brilliance or on other teams messing up. So how about this as a suggestion. It may get ridiculed and I am writing this in the aftermath of a pitiful result so I am maybe not at my most balanced. Get Walsh in to talk to the players. On the training ground, before the match, at half time. Whenever. I know he acts like a bit of a nob on the radio but he cares about the club and could just get a reaction from the players. The reaction that Holloway can't seem to provoke. I'm not saying sack Holloway. I'm not saying Walsh should be manager. I'm just looking for something to cling on to and this is the first thing I thought of. It's a risk. It may be met with derision. But then again it might just help.
Eastern Fox Posted 12 April 2008 Posted 12 April 2008 He doesn't have any real coaching or management experience...he's a legend in the eyes of Leicester fans but most of the players barely know who he is. I don't think bringing Walsh in would make any difference, it would undermine Holloway if anything.
Moreton Posted 12 April 2008 Posted 12 April 2008 It's been said before but yeah i think they should let him talk to the players, just do anything that might give the players some more umpf.
dandannieldanok Posted 12 April 2008 Posted 12 April 2008 The ignorant morons wouldn't listen, if they won't respond to Holloway they won't respond to Walsh.
Zingari Posted 12 April 2008 Posted 12 April 2008 somehow i think its too late , but maybe couldn't do any harm ; ( although ollie would probably feel undermined ) its as desperate as that we should have given Walshy a few matches in charge after smeggy left and see how it went , ,it would have been a gamble worth taking at that stage ,now i'm not so sure good suggestion though JTB JTB "but he cares about the club and could just get a reaction from the players. The reaction that Holloway can't seem to provoke."
He's not bald Posted 12 April 2008 Posted 12 April 2008 It's been said before but yeah i think they should let him talk to the players, just do anything that might give the players some more umpf. Anything that might help...and that prat Hollaway should fook off now!...he's an inept idiot without a clue...if I hear one more comment about the fan's making a difference I will ram my st up his scrawny little a hole!
James. Posted 12 April 2008 Author Posted 12 April 2008 To clarify I do not want Walsh to be manager. I do not want his tactical input or his ideas for team selection. That really would undermine Holloway. All I want is for him to be given some time with the players so they are reminded of what this club means to the fans. A reminder of the history and a reminder of the passion that once flooded through this club. The team lacks players with character. The management team, for all Holloway's eccentricities, lacks character. For all his weaknesses that is one thing that can never be said of Walsh. These are desperate times. Maybe just maybe Walsh could get the reaction we need. I have no idea how else we will get it.
Zingari Posted 12 April 2008 Posted 12 April 2008 yes , a talisman or charismatic figure on the training ground and touchline thats what i thought you meant

I WENT OUT OF MY WAY TO SUGGEST THIS TO THE CLUB, oops caps. i wrang up peter jones and he assured me that they were in negotiations with several ex players to do a speach before a game to everyone in a the stadium, but im disapointed that they have not done this.

Kilworthfox Posted 12 April 2008 Posted 12 April 2008 Don't be ridiculous! What he said But i love Walshy
The Reverend Posted 12 April 2008 Posted 12 April 2008 This has been talked about before. We need something, because Holloway is'nt getting anything out of them. I dont think it will make a difference though. I mean we had Gerryto do that and what did it do? But its worth a try.

Burnsy Posted 12 April 2008 Posted 12 April 2008 No matter who talks to them the days of players caring about there club have gone. The players know that even if they go down they will be sold and move on to pastures new maybe in the same division or at least get the same wages else where. I still think we will stay up though just by goal difference
Nationwider Posted 12 April 2008 Posted 12 April 2008 As much as I like the theory, Steve Walsh will mean sod all to most of the players. He's not exactly got the caché of Roy Keane or Kevin Keegan has he? He means a lot to the fans, but I doubt whether the likes of Matt Fryatt, Kelvin Etuhu or Sergio Hellings really gives a rat's ass what he thinks or says. They won't play for the manager, they won't play for fans - hopefully they'll at least try to play to avoid their relegation pay deduction clauses kicking in come June. Well, those that aren't on loan or out of contract anyway.
Staf Posted 12 April 2008 Posted 12 April 2008 Im sorry to say this but i think we will get Dowie please dont hate me for saying it its just my opinion.

Didn't Taggart and Walsh do a speech last season before the Birmingham home game? If so, get them in to do it again.

Ultra Posted 12 April 2008 Posted 12 April 2008 Walsh wouldn't make any difference. He's like the yokel fcukwit - plenty of passion but no brains. And he doesn't mean jack to any of the thieving parasites who infest our club, especially on the playing side.

Phew, when I saw the thread theme I thought one of the more sensible and clued up posters had finally flipped James! And I understand what you say completely, but I just don't think it would make any difference. I've thought myself, why don't they let a few fans into the dressing room before hand to let them know just how much it means to them... but they already know surely. I mean, fans must let them know at the open training sessions I honestly think that if Larry Oliver rode into the stadium on a white charger and gave the "Once more unto the breach" speech from Henry V, it wouldn't make a jot difference. To be honest, I think it would go over their heads!
Number1flanker Posted 12 April 2008 Posted 12 April 2008 Yeah I think he should the players are lacking in passion and moativation. He could bring it back!

Walsh is almost as much of a plonker as you are, he has passion yes - but he was talking about going with 2 at the back as soon as Colchester scored. We've got to stick with Ollie now whatever, changing th Boss at this stage won't help anything, especially the bank balance.
davieG Posted 12 April 2008 Posted 12 April 2008 Watching Coach Carter (allegedly) doesn't seem to have worked
