Is the abuse of our players really necessary?

Life is about enjoying yourself, having a laugh - and more importantly, being able to carry that mindset into adversity. I'm planning on enjoying myself for the remaining matches, having a drink and a laugh...otherwise what is the point in going?

If your week revolves around planning on how angry you are going to get on Saturday then you need a break from the game. Go get laid, go smoke spliff - do a triathalon...seriously, don't go to Barnsley and Wednesday - it's not good for your heart.

Nowadays it seems as if almost every other post contains something along the lines of "overpaid bastards", "useless c*nts", "lazy

wankers", "degenerates", "shit wasters", etc etc.

It appears to reflect a characteristic of Leicester supporters to be generally quite negative about the club - also illustrated by booing at the Walkers, our tendency to single out certain players for unwarranted abuse and the incessant moaning that proliferates around the Kop on match day.

Don't get me wrong, criticism of our players is necessary and inevitable given our current position. However firstly I really believe that much of the reason for our poor season is more to do with the instability coursing through the club as opposed to the players being particularly awful. And secondly regardless of how bad they are some of the language and terms being used is just unnecessary, unconstructive and ultimately counter-productive.

I have no idea how this thread will go down. I'm prepared, with a sense of irony, for some abuse. But it's been bothering me for awhile and I am interested to know if anyone feels the same.

Just take a look at pretty much every post by Matt if you need some examples of what I'm referring to.

I think they deserve what they get, at the end of the day we spend our OWN FREE TIME watching shit virtually every two weeks. This could turn out to be the worst season in the history of LCFC and they deserve all the stick they are/will be getting (if they go down). No passion, no will to win and crap tactics.

I've often wondered whether this negative atmosphere is what makes the home performances so lame.

A team's home should be its fortress - just look at Celtic Park, they beat AC Milan there FFS. But the whole attitude there is "keep the faith", so much so that even I tire of it. Most tools still think we can win the league.

But at the Walkers we think we're so great but the fact is we're not great, and haven't been for a long time. So when the players play like the team that they are, people get on their backs for "not being good enough". Then they go and win away. Go figure.

I don't actually think there is a lack of passion at the Walkers, particularly when you look at the attendances we get. It's the way that many of our supporters choose to express this passion which I find frustrating.

However my original point was more intended to highlight my annoyance at the growing animosity being directed at the players on this forum at such a critical time in the season. And it is animosity that can fester somewhere like this but go on to do real damage if carried forwards into match days.

It's a tough one because like Cat Burger said earlier it is a question of personality and I would never try to dictate how someone should support the club. But I do have a problem with people casually abusing the players and creating a real "us and them" feeling when the season is so finely balanced as it is now. There is a difference between getting angry and fuelling the negativity that has clouded this club for too long.

Perhaps if people took the approach to not say on here what they would'nt be prepared to say to the players faces we might get a more orderly, respective, intelligent level of conversation.

I agree with what you are saying and i am glad you have posted it! For the last 3 months especially i have disliked going to the Walkers (i love away games though) as i find it really frustrating that the fans boo players, i find it embarrassing, and the last 3 games when we have really needed to win, after 30 minutes if we aren't leading the fans get restless and start singing Ollie sort it out, which adds more pressure to the players. Sometimes i feel like some fans want Leicester to fail as they enjoy moaning. There are afew people around me in L1 who constantly moan and pick on certain players. Everyone needs to stick together and get behind the team as at the end of the day players will leave but the fans will still be there, so if we don't get behind the team it will be us who lose out as we will be watching Leicester play in the third tier of English football for the first time in our history, when alot of the current players will probably leave.

I do understand why people boo players as this season especially has been extremely disappointing but if we want to stay up we need to be behind the team.

The atmosphere does affect the players, as at half time on sat Clapham turned to the crowd who were booing and signalled to them to get behind the team and hes right, the players i believe wanted to win as much as we wanted them to! I am not a fan of Howards as i would prefer Hume and should i say it Fryatt up front, but i think the boos he got on Saturday were unfair. I feel like there has to be a player who gets stick from the fans, it used to be Maybury, De Vries, Clemence, now i think its Howard.

What i do get really annoyed with sometimes is Ollies tactics. Why put Hayles up front on sat and DJ on the wing when it was more effective with Hayles on the wing in the first half. Why does Ollie drop Mattock for Clapham, why does he always start with Howard up front, it isn't working! Hume should always play up front, he is the best finisher we have at the club. I think the positions where Ollie plays players has a negative effect on the team, as some players don't seem happy playing out of position (e.g. Hume on wing). However whatever the team is whether i agree with it or not, Ollie is the manager and he sees the players week in week out in training, so i always get behind the team even if i don't agree with the tactics

I gave up 6 years ago and dont miss it one bit.

I am going to the Barnsley game (mostly for the beer)but i cant see me ever going to another home game

Treat my football like any other social activity,if my local restaurant serves crap food week in week out you can moan to the owner slag the chef off

but the best thing to do is just stay away and save your money until it improves

The fans turn up to the Walkers thinking we will win easily, but i feel they expect too much, there is a lack of confidence in the team due to recent results, and i think we played ok first half against Colchester and they didn't deserve to get booed at half time, it doesn't help the team and it really annoyed me! I know they should be hammering Colchester and they weren't but i think the fans need to be abit more patient and get behind the team rather than criticising especially if the team are trying, which i believe they did on saturday.

If you put an abysmal show on and lose 4-1 at home to Wolves and Sheffield Wednesday, then the players deserve everything that come their way. It's not that I agree with booing per se, but I can understand where people are coming from.

If they play abysmal then i understand the booing, but at this part of the season in the position we are in to boo at half time on saturday when we had all the chances first half i think was unfair, its obvious they are low in confidence at the minute and booing wont help! I have never booed even when we have played abysmal, but i understand why people do as people pay alot of money and expect to be entertained and not watch some of the rubbish we have seen this season.

I'm not surprised by the level of abuse directed towards the players and management - it's been utter shite over the past 4 years. It's pure frustration and it seems the mindset won't change until the fans see an improvement in not just results, but performances as well. I don't advocate it myself, but I understand why it happens.

I think the abuse sometimes does go too far, but it is born out of pure frustration. These people don't do it for a laugh, to look hard or whatever, it's because they care so much about our club, and when they see players maybe not caring as much, it hurts them. That bloke who ran on the pitch on Saturday was an idiot, but he was frustrated with what he was seeing. It wasn't the best way to show it, I'll grant you that, I didn't agree with it, but I could understand it.

Constructive criticism would be better, telling the players where they are going wrong, rather than shouting inane rubbish.
