Competition in League One

Recommended Posts

Every team are competition.

Not to be disrespectful to other clubs, but most of them are very small teams, very small old stadiums, no money, no real well known players etc.

BUT those other teams will be raising their game against us, and will probably be able to play as a team unlike us.

Look at Bristol City this season, unknown players, yet they passed it around swiftly along the ground and played as a team.

We can't play as a team and if we don't get a decent manager in, and team players hungry to play for the shirt, and most importantly don't play as a team like this season, seriously we could go down again.

If we can play as a team which i'm sure our youngsters will be capable of and simple football along the fooking floor, we should easily get promoted.

Even Fryatt could be bagging the goals again in this division.

I also hope we can keep DJ Campbell, he does have a bit of pace, which not many strikers in League 1 have and if fit, and playing in the right position consistently, could bag 20 goals+ easily.

If we constantly think we are better than the teams we play in league one next season and by that i mean both players and fans then we will struggle but if we go about it the right way then we can get back up. Mind you if Mandaric can get the right man and get 2 decent strikers to score goals then i can't see why not but only time will tell if that happens.

If indeed Mandaric stays!

God I hope all the muppets who thought we'd win the championship this year assume we'll win league one.

League Two it is, then!

(Until someone at the club finally starts to realize how deep in the shit we really are)

It will be a scrap week on week. The bookies will no doubt make us favourites but that is more likely to count against us than for us knowing how well the current crop of players deal with pressure.

Leeds are a special case (siege mentality etc etc etc), but generally speaking the bigger clubs find life in League One very uncomfortable.

The standard of football is atrocious and even the best sides make a habit of winning without ever actually playing particularly well.

If you're expecting a cakewalk season full of novelty away days and cricket scores then you are in for a sharp shock. It's gritty, laborious, and - put simply - bloody hard work.

Enjoy...

Okay, I'll hold my hands up and say I bollocked up what I was trying to put accross, and have been rightly criticised for it. Basically, after a conversation with my uncle it made me realise that we will be the biggest club in League One next season, and with the possible absense of Leeds there will be no other 'big' clubs in the division.

Away results will be the key.

Small grounds with poorly surfaced pitches equalize everyone

Get used to it for next season

BUT I'm an optomist....... Immediate bounce back!!!!!!!!

Can we not agree to ban the term "big club"? We just got relegated to league feckin 1! Why do we think we are a "big club"? Because of how many empty seats the Walkers will have next season? Because of all the extra shit the club has to pay for with smaller income? fook! NO MORE "BIG CLUB" BULLSHIT!! PLEASE!!

If Leeds go up by play-offs, where's the big teams to stop us going straight up?

I'm still depressed aswell, but it's a point to bear in mind.

If we go into League One with an attitude like that we'll get our arses handed to us.

We are not a Premier League club.

We are not a Championship club.

We are a League One club and should start acting like one.

There is absolutely no reason why Leicester City (if you sign a decent striker or two) won't be in the mix. There will be some tough teams, us (Milton Keynes Dons), Peterborough United, three from Doncaster, Leeds, Southend and Carlisle...plus Huddersfield. However with the financial resources you have, you go into the season with a severe upper hand over 20 of the 23 other clubs! Your one issue will be due to the nature of Leicester City, you will find yourself paying over the odds for players.

There could be plenty of reasons why we may not be in the mix, and most of em have been stated already in this thread, but i'll go over it again.

1) Erm, every othe team in the division. Every team will wanna up their game against us. Have you noticed how each time we've been mentioned in the papers or on TV lately the media have made a point of saying we've 'never been relegated to the third tier... etc. etc'. They'll have a point to prove, and they'll be gunning for us, and it'll be blood and guts football, not the seamless intuitive creative passing game we all know and love.

That last bit was a joke btw. A depressing joke, but a joke nonetheless.

2) Passion. Christ we didn't leave the Championship kicking and screaming. We shuffled out of the league with our tails between our legs like a team who KNEW they didn't deserve to be there! If we don't instill some passion in our current crop of players, or get some players IN willing to dirty their shirts and take a kicking for the cause, we'd better get used to life down there.

3) Cash. We could wind up a bit strapped or worse unless some miracle occurs and we get buyers for those useless tw*ts that have been pretending to be footballers (just cos you take the money and pull on the shirt, etc. etc.) But I guess really, how strapped we get is dependent on whether Mandy stays or jumps ship.

4) Stability/The Manager. Hopefully it WON'T be Ollie, and it's looking increasingly likely that he'll be handed his P45 when Mandy has calmed down, but make no mistake, his last appointments weren't exactly the hallmarks of genius. If he doesn't get it right and we shift from clueless pratt to clueless pratt, we'll be playing Huddersfield for years to come. Unless they leave League One.

Ok, i'm done. It's gone 4am and I haven't slept yet cos i've gone through several phases including numbness, denial and anger and now i've hit overtired hyperactive anger, but nonetheless I think i've made my (probably less than valid) point.

Personally I can't see us leaving League 1 at the first attempt, although it'd be fan-f**king-tastic. I'm no optimist, and currently everybody I know who kept telling me right up until the final whistle that 'it'll be fine, Leicester will be safe' is on my 'f**k off and die' list for the foreseeable future. Unless they apologise and ply me with alcohol. In which case i'm willing to forgive and forget.

Edit: I STILL can't f**king sleep!

Best point. Easiest run home from all the teams and we fooked it up. Southampton can come from behind against a superior team to win, and we bottle it against the easiest of opponents.

We f***ed if there are no big teams to play, they are the only ones we play well against

Chelsea

Villa

Forest

Watford

WBA

Stoke

give us a division full of S****horpes and Cheltenhams and we'll play poorly as we always do against small teams

Thats what worries me!

Well the lets just hope for a cup run next season. We can be the first league 1 side to ever make the carling and Fa cup finals! on top[ of that we can win the johnstones paint trophy  and the league :scarf:

Leicester for the quadruple!!!! Lets make history!!!!!!!

haha there is next years club slogan

"Lets make history!!!"

Keep the faith and all that guys!!! im looking forward to the seaside tour!! plus it means you lot have to come down here to play yeovil (less then an hour from here) Bristol (bout an hour and a half) and a few other local teams! i might get to watch some more matches next season.

Look on the bright side people, all the dead wood will go now because they wont be able to stay here and collect there big wage packet anymore. Also all the overpaid underperformers will leave, and we can finally build a team around the players that actually care for this club.

i.e.- Stearz, Kisnorbo, Mcauley, Weso, Hume, Fryatt, Mattock, Gradel, Porter, Chambers, Hendo. That wil be next years team + Bell, and the hungarians! I like it  We can finally see some passion and commitment for this club, and bounce back stronger then ever!

GK-Hendo

LB-Mattock

CB-Mcauley

CB-Worley (if he signs)/ Rowe-Turner

RB-Stearz

LM-Porter

CM-Weso

CM-Chambers

RM-Bell/Gradel

ST-Fryatt

ST-Hume

That looks like a strong team, most of them have played together before, they will no how eachother play. They have all been at the club for years or have come up through the ranks. There will be commitment and passion to succeed. Hume/stearz will be our leader!!! we will bounce back!!

keep the faith....... lets make history!

we need to emulate what Leeds did at the start of the season!

Go into administration? Get a 15 point deduction? We'll never get out!

It won't be a walk in the park, we all know that.

Southend, Brighton, Hartlepool, Doncaster, Carlisle, MK Dons.

Thats who I expect to be up there.

I think Colchester & S****horpe will struggle.

& Aaron MacLean will go in the summer so I expect P'Boro to struggle too.

I think we can do it, through the Play-Offs.

As Ollie said yesterday. Don't lose faith with your club, we'll be back :)

every week it's a dog fight. it's not nice, it's not pretty, and it's not very enjoyable either. but if you keep your feet on the ground, get a squad of players who are willing to fight, keep it simple and give as good as they get, then you'll do well.

have fun.

The voice of experience and not a truer word said.

We've all seen the fight in our team this season. Are people seriously relying on that same fight to get us up?

We should buy Aaron Maclean. I did advocate that once when he was at Aldershot. Nobody listened.

There are actually one or two teams in Div 3 who play football, although one of them just got relegated thanks to administration (Bournemouth). If Donny don't go up (and we don't get Sean O'Driscoll) they will be involved again next season. I can see Peterborough and MK Dons getting better as they have good finacial backing. Then there's bound to be a couple of teama that simply have good seasons.

So, here's my Top 6 (not in order and assuming Dirty Leeds go up via the POs)

Leicester City

Peterborough

MK Dons

Yo-evil

Doncaster Rovers

Oldham
