davieG Posted 9 May 2008 Posted 9 May 2008 We all know that there is going to a purge of personnel down the City, I'm guessing Admin, Marketing, Finance, Cleaners, Stewards, Ticket office, Switchboard in fact all over which leads me to think they'll be having serious thoughts about closing part of the ground in order to justify the loss cleaners and stewards etc. I'm sure some of the kiosk could well shut. They may not do it straight away but if ST sales slump it will definitely be on the cards and they will have a contingency plan for it, well they should. I'm betting it'll be the family enclosure with them moving to one of the corners, I doubt they'll close the other 3 and just closing corners would be of little benefit. If they close the Family end they'll be less numbers upset especially as it will include a fair number of freebie under 8s. They would then save on Stewards along side they away fans, turnstile operators, cleaning costs etc. Save some £££££££s
Vardinhio Posted 9 May 2008 Posted 9 May 2008 Correct me if I'm wrong but I can't really think of another time that has happened with teams that have new stadiums. Some clubs close parts of their ground but I think it's usually as a result of health and safety with stands going in to dis-repair.
BigGibbo Posted 9 May 2008 Posted 9 May 2008 We shouldn't have to do that for the first season surely! just don't sign any new players other than a couple of cheap old heads to compliment all our youth. And get rid of half of the players.

Leeds closed their stand because of poor attendances last year.
Fez of Mahrez Posted 9 May 2008 Posted 9 May 2008 Oh my, I wonder how we could improve the look of those empty seats....................................................

On that depressing note i think i'll sign off for the day!!!!
Durnerz Posted 9 May 2008 Posted 9 May 2008 Get rid of the Birch and half of Filberts family and we'll break even

iancognito Posted 9 May 2008 Posted 9 May 2008 There'll be some natural savings anyway. The policing bill should halve - I can't imagine that visits from Brighton, Swindon et al will cost as much to police as Wolves, West Brom etc Catering staff - there'll be less corporate business and bookings in the restaurants and hospitality areas will be down so waiters, kitchen staff & the like won't be in demand. I'd imagine the work they were going to do to strengthen the stands so that they're suitable for concerts etc will be put off for a year or two as well.

I'm sure much of that will happen but some of your thoughts e.g restaurants will only counteract revenue losses in those same areas anyway. You need to take into account the fact that we were losing money even in the Championship, we couldn't afford the Stadium payments and I doubt anyone was astute/far seeing/pessimistic enough to have a relegation to Division 3 clause in that contract. As for the police there as good at ripping people of as any one.

Just think, all those under 8s in the cop!
Foxes_Trust Posted 9 May 2008 Posted 9 May 2008 Leeds closed their stand because of poor attendances last year. Well their prices for League One football are a complete rip off, no wonder fans didn't attend

The club are considering options - it is too soon to speculate.
davieG Posted 9 May 2008 Author Posted 9 May 2008 We know there will be a dip in support. The club are considering options - it is too soon to speculate. Speculation by definition has to be done before the event, we could have some announcements on monday so I can't see why it's too soon
demon_dog Posted 10 May 2008 Posted 10 May 2008 Davie, you missed out the players, there's bound to be some cost cutting there. Plus income coming in from the one's we are likely to sell. The one's that are left will quite probably be on a reduced wage. I do agree that savings will have to be made in other areas, but it may not be as bad as we think. Also let's take into account that the club now have permission to host rock events at the ground. This could also bring in much needed income. Shame the Tigers don't need us anymore for big European games, this I would have thought brought around 1/2 Million for use of the stadium over the last couple of years. Every little helps, hopefully staff cutbacks won't quite be as severe as we think. Let's just get rid of the dead wood and move on from there.
Daggers Posted 10 May 2008 Posted 10 May 2008 Speculation by definition has to be done before the event Nope. spec·u·late (spky-lt)v. spec·u·lat·ed, spec·u·lat·ing, spec·u·lates v.intr. 1. To meditate on a subject; reflect.
act smiley Posted 10 May 2008 Posted 10 May 2008 Correct me if I'm wrong but I can't really think of another time that has happened with teams that have new stadiums. Some clubs close parts of their ground but I think it's usually as a result of health and safety with stands going in to dis-repair. Darlington's absurd 25,000-seater bowl usually only has a few sections open as their crowds are around 5k. It does happen, but its largely to do with over-optimistic lower-league sides.
davieG Posted 10 May 2008 Author Posted 10 May 2008 Nope. In this instance, I see no point in speculating on this subject once it's occurred. People are speculating on the manager, whether the Chairman stays as chairman, potential crowds, potential goals, potential finishing places etc, etc. Why have you identified this subject as being too early to speculate on? PS I'm now officially bored with this and the subject in question and will no longer be speculating on it I think I'll move on to speculate on whether I should have a crap before or after my breakfast. Ooooops too late

I left the players out on purpose because we know there are going to be changes there, as for the rock contest that can't happen successfully without spending a large sum on strengthening the stand.
Daggers Posted 10 May 2008 Posted 10 May 2008 Why have you identified this subject as being too early to speculate on? Because you really wouldn't believe some of the options being considered.
davieG Posted 10 May 2008 Author Posted 10 May 2008 Because you really wouldn't believe some of the options being considered. Oh but I think I would I was being very conservative with my post. Aldridge doesn't strike me as a pussy cat when it comes to cutbacks. I've seen a few serious ones in my time as well.
Daggers Posted 10 May 2008 Posted 10 May 2008 I've seen a few serious ones in my time as well. But fortunately, at your age, you can't remember them
