Sods Posted 29 May 2008 Posted 29 May 2008 England friendlies are usually shit. However playing the players who haven't featured much in the side might just might make it worth watching.
Maybes Posted 29 May 2008 Posted 29 May 2008 Great bedtime viewing. Looking forward to sunday evening for once
eye666 Posted 29 May 2008 Posted 29 May 2008 what exactly is the point of this friendly?have T&T just offered The FA a big wad of cash to play the game because what is the point of traveling half way around the world to play a very poor football side. is it to demeaning to play one of the European sides who HAVE qualified for Euro2008 as a warm up game Greece, Sweden, Romania any of them would have been a far more worthwhile game!! The point of it is that the vice-president of FIFA (I think) is the president of the CONCACAF and England wants to try to win over his vote to hold the World Cup in England in 2018. Politics as always.

purpleronnie Posted 29 May 2008 Posted 29 May 2008 Well we might actually see an England friendly actually being put to use for once. I'm glad all these Man Utd/Chelsea players aren't travelling. Absolutely, should be a lot more interesting than the USA match.
davieG Posted 31 May 2008 Posted 31 May 2008 David Beckham will captain England for their friendly against Trinidad and Tobago on Sunday in Port of Spain. The LA Galaxy midfielder, who recently surpassed 100 caps for his country, resigned as captain following the 2006 World Cup finals in Germany. The 33-year-old was sensationally axed from former manager Steve McClaren's squad altogether after relinquishing the captaincy. And although he was eventually recalled to the squad, it was too little, too late as the Three Lions failed to qualify for Euro 2008, leading to McClaren's departure. Beckham captained England for the first time in a friendly against Italy in 2000 and went on to hold his country's armband in another 58 games. Steven Gerrard was handed the armband for Fabio Capello's first game in charge against Switzerland, with Rio Ferdinand then named skipper for the defeat by France. Chelsea defender John Terry, who has not travelled to the Caribbean, took the armband for the midweek victory against the USA, while Gareth Barry has been touted as another possible contender. But Capello has turned to Beckham for England's final fixture of the season and will not name a full-time skipper until the World Cup qualifiers in September.
dandannieldanok Posted 31 May 2008 Posted 31 May 2008 Why on earth give Beckham the captaincy, it questionable whether he's any use to the team now at 33, never mind in a year or two time. He should pick on a captain with more of a future and just settle on it ffs.
Tevez Posted 31 May 2008 Posted 31 May 2008 This game should be decent, Ashton and Agbonglahor up top should do alright.

Ultra Posted 1 June 2008 Posted 1 June 2008 Why does Beckham even have to play? Politics. The FIFA vice-president has let it be known that Becks would make a good ambassador for the 2018 World Cup bid. So the FA are sucking up to him, and giving Becks the armband for this showpiece Caribbean friendly in the hope that a few block votes may be swayed their way. Hopefully this game will see his 102nd and final cap.
C-man Posted 1 June 2008 Posted 1 June 2008 What the **** is he doing.Cock off Beckham. Seriously who should play instead of Beckham? He's our main source of goals. David Bentley did fuck all against the USA to even suggest he should be part of the squad. I'd like to see Walcott on the right but we all know that won't happen.
AmericanScott Posted 1 June 2008 Posted 1 June 2008 This game will interfere with the all new Family Guy double on BBC 3 tonight I guess i can always catch the second half.

Especially as SWP was scoring.

Uncle Albert Posted 1 June 2008 Posted 1 June 2008 Thank god I dont have to be in college tomorrow. Glad Beckham is captain to be honest, anyone is better than Rio. Hope Ashton and Crouch start up front aswell tonight.
Simi Posted 1 June 2008 Posted 1 June 2008 Loft, I take it you'll be staying up to see how Dwight Yorke plays with his fellow England team mates?
Samilktray Posted 1 June 2008 Posted 1 June 2008 This game will interfere with the all new Family Guy double on BBC 3 tonight I guess i can always catch the second half. Im determined that the new episodes arent even new !
Uncle Albert Posted 1 June 2008 Posted 1 June 2008 Loft, I take it you'll be staying up to see how Dwight Yorke plays with his fellow England team mates? Aiiiiii. This is Dwight's biggest international game in an England shirt.
Joe. Posted 1 June 2008 Posted 1 June 2008 I shall be watching this tonight. It'll be interesting to see how our "lesser" players fare tonight. Technically we should beat them comfortably as they are quite blatantly shit but after all we're England and we'll probably do it the hard way.
C-man Posted 1 June 2008 Posted 1 June 2008 I'll watch the first half then go bed, I've got an exam tomorrow morning Besides the second half will be farcical when the football luminaries of Stephen Warnock and David Wheater come on to represent our once proud footballing nation.
Ultra Posted 1 June 2008 Posted 1 June 2008 Whatever happened to Lennon and SWP?Especially as SWP was scoring. Wright-Phillips hasn't played a game in months. Once he fnds another club, he shouldn't have too much trouble regaining his England place.
