Ultra Posted 25 May 2008 Posted 25 May 2008 I see the point about glory hunters, but at the end of the day every team is going to attract more fans to wembley. At least we could take 30'000.Doncaster is still a reasonably big place, Just under 300'000 population but yes it's smaller than Leeds & Leics. In 2003 Doncaster averaged under 4'000. So taking 20'000 fans to wembley doesn't really show it was full of proper fans. It just shows that money rules everything in this game, I hate it. I agree at least he did it with his own football club, instead of going for a big outfit but still, it shows that you can be succsessfull by simply having the money. Clubs used to have to earn the money. But as we know only too well, money does NOT guarantee success. I didn't see many complaints when Mandaric was spending millions on our behalf during the season. Ryan has shown himself to be a shrews judge of manager - first Dave Penney and now O'Driscoll. Maybe Mandaric should have a word with him.
Shrenchel Posted 25 May 2008 Posted 25 May 2008 Glad to see them go up to be honest. Yeah they've got fook all supporters but these days so has almost every club in leagues they were languishing in a few years ago. Does that mean nowadays no lower league teams deserve to climb the leagues?! I think it would be boring if the traditionally largest clubs occupied the top couple of leagues without anything ever changing. Alright they pretty much bought success but that's what it takes. It's not really possible anymore to get on the up like they have just by having a good team spirit etc etc. Can't really blame them for the big bag of money = success, state of modern football. I think there's far more obvious culprits. Plus Elland Road is much better ground then their Walkers painted red shithole. I'm not complaining.

Clubs used to have to earn the money. I think you'll find clubs have always had 'extra' money pumped in by their boards which were generally full of local businessmen and there would always have been a disparity in what was available but compared to today the difference would have been less effective add to that clubs used to share gate receipts and in general income was fairly evenly spread until the creation of the Premier League put paid to any pretence of a level playing field.
Hullfox Posted 25 May 2008 Posted 25 May 2008 Personally I laughed like a drain to see those Leeds supporters crying. I had to sit through 5 hours of "Marching on Together" at Elland Road yesterday with the likes of Chris Moyles spouting off about the mighty Leeds. Like a bloody drain I tell you.

Like a bloody drain I tell you. I felt sorry for Gary Mac, who is a really good bloke, and the genuine Leeds supporters, the ones who aren't arrogant or aggressive for no reason. For all the prats who follow Leeds United, it's great.
Ashley Posted 25 May 2008 Posted 25 May 2008 I wanted Leeds to go up today because I think it would make the league easier for us next season. Fair play to Doncaster for winning tho.
lildave3 Posted 25 May 2008 Posted 25 May 2008 Just watching the highlights on SSN, quite pleased for Donny actually. Can't see them lasting long though.
LeeCovFox Posted 25 May 2008 Posted 25 May 2008 I think they will stay up to be honest. They are a very well run club, and aren't short of cash as a result. Don't be suprised to see all of the three promoted clubs stick around in that league for a while to come, and perhaps progress even further. Doncaster were in the Conference 5 years ago. What a wonderful story. This is why we all love football.
purpleronnie Posted 26 May 2008 Posted 26 May 2008 The 2 teams I wanted to go both have I also want Rochdale to go up simply because they have spent the longest time in the bottom league.
C-man Posted 26 May 2008 Posted 26 May 2008 I was impressed by Doncaster in the play-offs. I hope they continue to play nice football and build on what they already have because I'm sure they'll stay up next season as long as they can keep Sean O'Driscoll at the helm. Hoping for a Rochdale win today
Floating Fox Posted 26 May 2008 Posted 26 May 2008 'Mon the county. Rochdale is a nightmare to get to. Don't really fancy going there next year.
Leicester Rule! Posted 26 May 2008 Posted 26 May 2008 Who would you rather play next year and who are you supporting today? Cant believe the League 2 Playoff Final has any effect with us!!
davieG Posted 26 May 2008 Posted 26 May 2008 Rochdale lucky to get away with just the goal rather than a red card and penalty.
syston_fox Posted 26 May 2008 Posted 26 May 2008 Stockport 3-1 up now.... good goal and pretty much game over.
davieG Posted 26 May 2008 Posted 26 May 2008 Rochdale lucky to get away with just the goal rather than a red card and penalty. Stockport it is then! At least Conrad's going to end his season on a high.
davieG Posted 26 May 2008 Posted 26 May 2008 Stockport it is then! At least Conrad's going to end his season on a high. Maybe Not!
Tilley Posted 26 May 2008 Posted 26 May 2008 Nice to see a good, high scoring match at Wembley, 3 - 2 fantastic. Logan booked for timewasting . Add Stockport Away to the list.
davieG Posted 26 May 2008 Posted 26 May 2008 Why do all these teams look like they know how to play football more than our shower
