OriginalRobboFOX Posted 28 May 2008 Posted 28 May 2008 Even he's managed to carve himself out a career.... http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/t...tic/7423456.stm
dandannieldanok Posted 28 May 2008 Posted 28 May 2008 He'll always be remembered for that winning goal at Luton
Simi Posted 28 May 2008 Posted 28 May 2008 I thought everyone said he was shit. He's signed for Oldham.
Fez of Mahrez Posted 28 May 2008 Posted 28 May 2008 I thought everyone said he was shit. He is ****ing sh*t. And so was Kaebi and Laczko blah blah blah.
Thracian Posted 28 May 2008 Posted 28 May 2008 He is ****ing sh*t.And so was Kaebi and Laczko blah blah blah. I wish we'd had a few more 11-goal shits last season.
Scow Posted 28 May 2008 Posted 28 May 2008 I wish we'd had a few more 11-goal shits last season. They were scored in League 2, Thracian - not the Championship.
Jay Posted 28 May 2008 Posted 28 May 2008 I wish we'd had a few more 11-goal shits last season. I should probably point out about now that these were scored in League 2 but I am sure you will find someway of suggesting how brilliant it is to score double figures at that level
Thracian Posted 28 May 2008 Posted 28 May 2008 They were scored in League 2, Thracian - not the Championship. Don't see how he could have scored em anywhere else. I suppose you're saying he'll be way out of his depth playing against Leicester next season. Well, looks like we'll get the chance to see.

Well, looks like we'll get the chance to see. I bet he doesn't score 11 league goals next season. He's just a young Mark De Vries, well maybe not that bad.

He wouldn't have to score anything like 11 goals to be in front of everyone but Hume. It'll probably be a close thing but I'd back him for double figures given a reasonable number of appearances. O'Grady is a strong and busy player who seems driven to suceed. He knows he not a natural and will have to work at his game but I'd back his determination quite happily because, whether he's scoring or not he makes himself useful and gives his all.
Father Ted Posted 28 May 2008 Posted 28 May 2008 I remember two seasons ago when he got his proper breakthrough in a home game under Rob Kelly, can't remember who it was against but he had a blinder, he won everything in the air, held the ball up, etc and I really thought he could do really well but a couple of weeks later he's sold to Rotherham. CRAZY!

CRAZY! You said it and who did we use instead? DeVries, Cort, Campbell, Hayles, Fantasy Fryatt... with 12 goals between them including cup matches.

Bearing in mind he has a strike rate of 1 goal in just under 4 games in League Two, equating to 13 goals in 46 starts, I think it's another case of blind faith.

I do have faith in the bloke and even half those 13 goals in our 46 matches last season would have made him joint second top scorer. And that, as always. is my point. He was better than the alternatives. And, to be honest, it was plain to see. It's just that others preferred to believe things that just weren't backed up by evidence. Hume is the nearest thing we've got to O'Grady in that he's mobile, determined, leaps well, doesn't give up, plays for 90 minutes. How we could have done with others like that. The guys I've mentioned were never going to fit the bill. Campbell was never fit, Fryatt's never been an athlete and looks a shadow of his former self, Cort was a passenger from the off, DeVries just a chunk and Hayles only had about 30 minutes fuel at best.

I do actually kind of agree with Thracian. We should have kept Chris O'Grady but TBH who cares??? We sold him 2 years ago, everybody has moved on.

Even if he had scored 6 or 7 in the same amount of appearances, no matter how you dress it up, it still isn't good enough. I don't disagree with how poor our strikers have been this season, however, if you gave Campbell a run of 40 games, he would be very likely to score more than that. You can list all the attributes you want about O'Grady, but you could apply that to any footballer who plays at a decent level - doesn't necessarily make them a good player at Championship or even League One level.
Daggers Posted 28 May 2008 Posted 28 May 2008 Anyone keen to continue the debate with Thracian about the relative merits of COG, but lacking the time to stay online, can print off this picture and take it with you. I find talking to it to be very efficacious.
