Uncle Albert Posted 17 June 2008 Posted 17 June 2008 Watch Italy go and win the whole tournament now.
Jack Posted 17 June 2008 Posted 17 June 2008 Watch Italy go and win the whole tournament now. Spain in the quarters, I can't see them getting past Spain atm.
shen Posted 17 June 2008 Posted 17 June 2008 Watch Italy go and win the whole tournament now. I'll be laughing for a long time if Romania can do a Turkey and spoil the party...
Father Ted Posted 17 June 2008 Posted 17 June 2008 Spain in the quarters, I can't see them getting past Spain atm. Without Puyol, Spain are weak and he went off in their last game...
Head Honcho Posted 17 June 2008 Posted 17 June 2008 Watch Italy go and win the whole tournament now. I hope so that's where my money is
shen Posted 17 June 2008 Posted 17 June 2008 Without Puyol, Spain are weak and he went off in their last game... Puyol can't contain Toni either... Albiol might be better suited for that role
Father Ted Posted 17 June 2008 Posted 17 June 2008 Puyol can't contain Toni either... Albiol might be better suited for that role Ramos But apparently Pirlo and Gattuso suspended for that quarter-final.
dandannieldanok Posted 17 June 2008 Posted 17 June 2008 Lubos Michel has been appalling, he's making Howard Webb look competent.
Father Ted Posted 17 June 2008 Posted 17 June 2008 Italy through for sure then... 2-0 Netherlands... Van Persie pure class...
Joe. Posted 17 June 2008 Posted 17 June 2008 Well I didn't expect that I must admit. It was just a night where everything went wrong for France. First with Ribery then with that clown Abidal getting sent off and giving away the penalty. I knew when I saw he was playing at centre back it was a disaster waiting to happen. Superb penalty from Pirlo and then the lucky deflection for De Rossi's goal but all in all Italy deserved their win. France were clueless going forward and I can see why they rarely threatened Buffon's goal. Countless times they only had one man in the box and most of the time it was Henry- way past his best now. Benzema was poor as he has been all tournament, I've been veery disappointed with him. So I guess well done Italy. Should be a good tussle between them and Spain.
Finnegan Posted 17 June 2008 Posted 17 June 2008 Without Puyol, Spain are weak and he went off in their last game... Villa? Torres? Silva? Iniesta? Xavi? Senna? Weak? They might be defensively frail without their captain and most experienced defender, but to imply they're "weak" without him is madness. Like Holland, Spain aren't a side built on defensive indestructibility and nor are Italy a dominating, goal-scoring machine. I don't think either side will "walk" it, but Italy will have to tripple their performances so far to keep the Spanish at bay in my opinion (unless, alas, the Spanish finally bottle it.)
Asha Posted 17 June 2008 Posted 17 June 2008 Anyone know what the background music is/was when Desailly was talking?

Joe. Posted 17 June 2008 Posted 17 June 2008 Luca Toni needs to learn how to finish first before Italy can start thinking about beating Spain
Uncle Albert Posted 17 June 2008 Posted 17 June 2008 Luca Toni needs to learn how to finish first before Italy can start thinking about beating Spain He was dreadful, Spain will rip them apart. Hopefully.
Joe. Posted 17 June 2008 Posted 17 June 2008 He was dreadful, Spain will rip them apart. Hopefully. Not sure about ripping them apart but I think they'll win too. And I agree with you on the hopefully bit too...
C-man Posted 17 June 2008 Posted 17 June 2008 Italy's luck is changing, I think they'll beat Spain, but I suppose thats because I stuck a fiver on Italy at 16s after they drew with Romania.
Suffolk_fox Posted 17 June 2008 Posted 17 June 2008 Toni seems like our sort of striker.... Couldn't hit the side of a bus - even if he was on the bugger!
dandannieldanok Posted 17 June 2008 Posted 17 June 2008 Luca Toni needs to learn how to finish first before Italy can start thinking about beating Spain Very true, because IMO he'll certainly get a chance or two. Whatever people say, Spain in defence have been wholly unconvincing, as have many other teams, in their opening games. That said, I do believe, and really really hope, Spain will win and Italy will go crashing out.
Kilworthfox Posted 17 June 2008 Posted 17 June 2008 Shit I knew I should have put that Italia bet on today
Joe. Posted 17 June 2008 Posted 17 June 2008 I don't see one team remaining who have a consistently solid defence now. Italy have conceded 5 already and look vulnerable, as do Germany at times. Portugal's defence still isn't the strongest and Spain's has looked unconvincing too so far. That leaves Sweden/Russia, Turkey, Croatia and Holland left, all who have fairly average defenders amongst their ranks. It's going to start to get interesting now...

And that's even with Simic on the bench!
