Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 17 June 2008 Posted 17 June 2008 Euro 96 Can't believe that that was 12 years ago. And to think that people referred to the England class of 2006 as our "Golden Generation". What a team that was.
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 17 June 2008 Author Posted 17 June 2008 Remember it like it was yesterday! What a wealth of talent though. Shearer, Sheringham, Cole, Ferdinand. What the current England squad would give for strikers like that.
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 17 June 2008 Author Posted 17 June 2008 Destroying Holland was awesome , its coming home
Father Ted Posted 17 June 2008 Posted 17 June 2008 What a wealth of talent though. Shearer, Sheringham, Cole, Ferdinand. What the current England squad would give for strikers like that. Strength and Power.

Tommeh Posted 17 June 2008 Posted 17 June 2008 What a wealth of talent though. Shearer, Sheringham, Cole, Ferdinand. What the current England squad would give for strikers like that. Not forgetting Wrighty and Fowler in reserve. These days after Rooney we have nothing. Brilliant team and brilliant memories. In my opinion the beginning of the end for the beautiful game we know it in this country. Football's been downhill ever since.
MC Prussian Posted 17 June 2008 Posted 17 June 2008 I really thought it was our year. "MON Revisited".
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 17 June 2008 Author Posted 17 June 2008 did they ever play? Don't know, but to have those two, as well as Fowler and Wright, as Tommeh pointed out, was quite special.
Durnerz Posted 18 June 2008 Posted 18 June 2008 I think this tournament marked the birth of my passion for the game, absolutely loved it and genuinely believed that we could go all the way, what a team we had on reflection.
OriginalRobboFOX Posted 18 June 2008 Posted 18 June 2008 ''Oh what a save, Gordon Banks.... Good old England, England who couldn't play football, England have got in the bag.... Three Lions on a shirt, Jules Rimet still gleaming.........''
Uncle Albert Posted 18 June 2008 Posted 18 June 2008 Despite on being 6 I can still remember where I was for all the games and when Gazza scored **** me, my living room went stone dead. All the Jocks in my family shut up and me and the old man had a right rave.
AyewJoking Posted 18 June 2008 Posted 18 June 2008 Wasnt Andrew Cole pretty shít in an England shirt? Also, Ferdinand, Wright and Fowler never really did the business for England did they? Not too much has changed. We have two exceptional forwards (on their day) in Owen and Rooney (although you could argue he isnt a striker). Then you've got Crouch, De Foe, Ashton, Agbonlahor, Heskey, Johnson all of whom arent fantastic but neither were Ferdinand and co.

I see your point although I'd ather have an Andy Cole on average form than a Peter Crouch on full form.
DBEightyFive Posted 19 June 2008 Posted 19 June 2008 That game was absolutely awesome!! But the tournament for me was THE Gazza goal!! And now look at whats happened to Gazza in those 12 years. Shame
James. Posted 19 June 2008 Posted 19 June 2008 Our performance against Holland hasn't been bettered to this day by any subsequent England team. Even the 5-1.
