Emmerdale actor Hornby dies aged 63

Clive Hornby, who played Jack Sugden in Emmerdale, died on Thursday night at the age of 63, a spokeswoman for the soap said.

Hornby was the longest-serving cast member in Emmerdale's history.

He had not been in the ITV soap for around three months due to ill health.

Hornby first appeared in Emmerdale on February 19 1980 and was still in the soap 28 years later.

He was initially offered a three-month contract as farmer Jack Sugden.

The character was seen returning to the village after previously being played by Andrew Burt.

Devoted family man and farmer Sugden married three times and had five children.

Emmerdale series producer Anita Turner said: "This is a devastating loss and we are all deeply saddened.

"Clive will be greatly missed by everyone who has worked with him on Emmerdale during the past 28 years.

"He was a hugely popular and well-respected member of cast and a terrific actor. Our thoughts are with his family at this difficult time."

Never watched Emmerdale but he was one of the most recogniseable faces on British TV due to his role as that character.

R.I.P.

Shit. And at 63 as well. :(

Anyone who marries three times is lucky to get past 50 never mind 60! :D

I'm surprised health and safety haven't latched onto it.

Well i laughed at the storyline, a chimney pot twatting her on the head when she was under a lof of bricks.

But when she died in the hospital telling Marlon that she loved him. That was emotional.

You put it so emotionally, I can see you were really moved.

Was it Bird Flu?

:D

Dunno really because for some strange reason he has requested that the cause of his death not be revealed .

Anyway its really strange that he has survived aeroplanes crashing into his farm, explosions in the pub, raging fires in his house and barn '

So it must have been something particularly lethal to have downed him .

It was very sad to hear that Clive Hornby - Jack Sugden from Emmerdale had passed away the other day, It wasn't very nice "but" he'd been ill for about four month's & that's why you didn't see him in Emmerdale.

I've done my own Special Tribute to Clive Hornby on Venture Radio this coming Thursday Evening from 5pm till 6pm (The Captain Cubbio Radio Show), Here's there website link for you all to tune in: http://www.ventureradio.co.uk/

RIP Jack
