Trav Le Bleu Posted 7 July 2008 Posted 7 July 2008 The government is going out of it's way to to take all the fun out of driving, but whilst we still can we should have some in our motor vehicles (let's not exclude bikers just cos they are sub-human ) So where's your favourite "driving" road in Leics and out and about? In and around Leics, I don't think you can beat Beggars Lane (From LFE to Enderby) and the road from Arnsby to Fleckney (the road Muzzy's house is on) has a fun down-right-up-left corner that is hugely entertaining. Further afield, Hard Knot Pass in the Lake District is fun (snakey, steep, narrow, clutch-buster of a road!) and in Scotland I don't think you could beat the A87 as it winds it's way through the Five Sisters of Kintail (the sisters being mountains). I'd also love to drive over the Millau Viaduct. Have to get a car down to France soon!
act smiley Posted 7 July 2008 Posted 7 July 2008 The A470 between Hell-on-Earth and Brecon is rather nice, as are a load of the B-roads around Brecon. Bikes are awesome though - I'd have a Sprint ST if I wasn't too scared.
Legend_in_blue Posted 7 July 2008 Posted 7 July 2008 One of the best laughs as a student was Shuttleworth Lane, connecting Lutterworth Road (A426) with Cosby village. The bumps and turns and the humpback bridge taken at speeds in excess of 50mph was fun. Apart from that, further afield, anything remote in the lakes is good, as is driving up in the dales when the fog and cloud cover is laying low.
Tommeh Posted 7 July 2008 Posted 7 July 2008 In a really good mood to buy some fuel and try some of these. My car hasn't moved in nearly 3 days due to lack of fluids The roads surrounding Bradgate Park are always lovely at half 5 on a sunday evening.
AoWW Posted 7 July 2008 Posted 7 July 2008 Can't think of any in Leicestershire really. A bit further afield the B660 from Bedford to Kimbolton is good fun. The Pro Evo tribe tend to use it alot - and for good reason. Hang on round those bends though - they're very easy to overcook. The A6121 (erm, from memory ) Bourne to Stamford road is great. It's not very long but it has good visibility and a great long straight where you can easily test your car's top speed if you feel that way inclined. It's so well known that it can get busy but if you try it at sunrise the A537 "Cat & Fiddle" road from Macclesfield to Buxton is nice and twisty. Too twisty, in fact, if you're not driving something suitably nippy and agile - but if you are, tis all good fun. If you're ever in Shropshire there's a road from Church Stretton that heads up to the Long Mynd. Don't think it's got a number but you'll find it easily enough. You can't tackle it at speed - way too twist, steep and narrow. It's scarily steep and has a huge drop down on one side. Drive up to the top, then turn round and head back down to Church Stretton. The drop is then on your left - and you have to get perilously close to it if you happen to meet something. Great fun for scaring the shit out of your passenger. Oh, and lots of amazingly scenic roads in and around the Black Mountains if you're ever over that way - go and find 'em for yourself.

That road was recently named "the most dangerous in Britain". There's certainly always been a car or two in a ditch every time I've driven along it.
Nationwider Posted 8 July 2008 Posted 8 July 2008 Two that I drive on a regular basis that I enjoy are the A66 from Scotch Corner to Penrith (in the summer only; in the winter it's a 'mare as are most trans-Pennine roads) and the B1257 from Stokesley to Helmsley through the North Yorkshire Moors.
dandannieldanok Posted 8 July 2008 Posted 8 July 2008 N85 Route Napoleon in France - Digne Les Bains > Grasse Amazing scenery, takes ages to drive though

That humpback bridge is deadly!

Maybes Posted 8 July 2008 Posted 8 July 2008 That humpback bridge is deadly! Yes it is, especially in a mini

TBH there are many stunning roads to drive on all over india....even the dodgy roads that are littered with pot holes.

Bluey, It's at Jalandhar a place called 'lambha pind', which is more or less a cross road, to either Jammu, Amritsar, Chandigarh\Ludhiana!!! Bloody drivers, right moaning bastards, i'm glad we've got our own transport there, do what ever we want when we want!!!
