So is this donkey going or not?

Please say that Norwich are stupid enough to take him... any price... seriously... anything for him would be a bonus.

"If you leave me know, you'll take away the biggest part of meee..."

Well, anatomically he'd take away the biggest part of the squad.

Howard is a useless donkey who won't be able to score 30+ a season.

This guy will be the key to our success for League One.

Leicester turn down Canaries bid for striker

DAVID CUFFLEY, EVENING NEWS SPORT

The Canaries were today reported to have had a bid rejected for Leicester City striker Steve Howard.

One national newspaper claimed City had a £500,000 offer turned down for Howard, previously linked with a move to Carrow Road this summer.

The 32-year-old was a target for former Norwich boss Nigel Worthington two years ago, but instead moved from Luton to Derby for £1m and helped them win promotion to the Premiership.

He joined Leicester for £1.5m last January but his six goals failed to save them from relegation to League One.

Whether Howard is the “big striker” manager Glenn Roeder hopes to sign in seven to 14 days remains to be seen, but the future of two more experienced forwards mentioned as potential City targets is still undecided.

Bristol City have pulled out of a deal to sign Michael Mifsud from Coventry after Robins boss Gary Johnson revealed he had doubts about the player's commitment.

Johnson agreed a fee of £1.5million for the Malta striker last week but yesterday, he told the club's official website: “I don't think he's right for us. I know people will be shocked by that and this is not me trying to enhance my reputation for interview techniques.

“I can't commit £1.5million of the club's money to people that I don't think can be committed to the club over three years.

“When I talk to people and try to do a deal with them you get to know their weaknesses. Although they might be very good players, in the end if they aren't the right personality for me and the club they'll let you down in the end.”

Roeder admitted during City's tour of Sweden that he was an admirer of 27-year-old Mifsud, but would not confirm reports he had made an inquiry.

Meanwhile, former Tottenham striker Steffen Iversen has hinted he wants to finish his playing career in England.

The 31-year-old, who is now in his second spell with Rosenborg in Norway, has confirmed he would be interested in returning.

“I'll probably finish my career in England,” he said. “I've got an English wife so I'm going to settle here when I retire. So if a good offer comes in then I'm available, although I've got three more years on my contract.”

God knows if this is actually true, there are many bullshitters on 606.

After all, Milan is a businessman so I can see why he'd turn down a £500k offer for a play he signed for nearly 3 times that 6 months ago.

Although personally, I don't think Howard is worth much more than £500k.

Selling for £500,000 would be pretty bad business as far as recouping what we paid just 8 months ago, but I don't believe we'll get any better offers in the future, even if he has a good season. IMO we should cut our losses and get rid.

On the face of it yes but you have to take into account his wages which could be circa £10k/week.

Multiply that by by 130 weeks = £1,300,000.

So Mandaric needs to determine whether he's going to get us promoted or not and even if he does (dons optimistic cap) whether he's up to making a decent contribution in the Championship next season.

If the answer is no then losing £1mill on the deal and saving £1.5 on wages is worth considering even more so when you could then get someone else in on less than Howard.

Of course he's still correct in turning down the first offer but at some point it could well be worth accepting an offer.

My thoughts exactly. He's past his peak (which was at Derby) and you won't get £500'000 for a soon-to-be-33-year-old that WON"T get into double figures when 08-09 draws to a close, one that's as slow as an Austin Allegro to boot.

Agreed, he may have improved over last season but I don't see him scoring 20+ this season and he's likely to do ****all next so get rid asap.

If he stays and plays regularly he will easily get into double figures
