Phube Posted 31 July 2008 Posted 31 July 2008 I mean really... everyone I know who work in an office spends at least 75% of there day on-line not doing work!? What did office workers do before? Actually work, was there more work to do? Do today's office worker work quicker...? Who knows?
Guest Posted 31 July 2008 Posted 31 July 2008 They used to find more ingenius ways of skiving off. The internet is fairly accessible for most at work, so it's a handy way to waste a bit of time if you've finished your work. I work in news I'd just spend the day reading the paper if I had no t'internet. I always do what needs to be done at work but due to the nature of it it's not consistently busy, so there is plenty of time to arse about..... hence the reason I'm on here
SOCCERROO FOX Posted 31 July 2008 Posted 31 July 2008 Listen to the radio............cos i doubt they did work. At my work we have massive connect 4 comps aswell as prank calling people at the other end of the office and throwing post it notes in peoples coffee.......all good fun

Tabou Posted 31 July 2008 Posted 31 July 2008 Before I got addicted to Foxestalk, I actually used to work . Now I use FT as a way of looking like I'm working. I split my time at the office between FT, abusing the YTS kids and making really really inappropriate sexual references. Good times.
lavrentis Posted 31 July 2008 Posted 31 July 2008 Do any of you work in them places where they harass you by constantly ringing you every day?
SOCCERROO FOX Posted 31 July 2008 Posted 31 July 2008 Do any of you work in them places where they harass you by constantly ringing you every day? None of us live in Delhi
Bellend Sebastian Posted 31 July 2008 Posted 31 July 2008 I used to spend a lot more time on the toilet
SOCCERROO FOX Posted 31 July 2008 Posted 31 July 2008 Speak for yourself. You old school man......cos New Delhi's where its at
davieG Posted 31 July 2008 Posted 31 July 2008 I don't know how you all manage it, I've worked at places where the internet was available - strictly for business use though. Personal use, even emails resulted in verbal and written warnings and persistent use was sackable offence.

Phube Posted 31 July 2008 Author Posted 31 July 2008 I make sure I don't contravene any rules on internet use. I.e. Not dating sites, no gambling, no porn... etc... But no where does it state excessive use is no allowed!
General Smuts Posted 31 July 2008 Posted 31 July 2008 How people got by without arguing with ex leicester youth players, brothers, about the possibility of Sheff Wednesday getting relegated net season, on facebook, is beyond me!

One place I worked someone got a written warning for sending a 'meet you down the pub' at lunch time email. Also every access to the internet was monitored/scrutinised so anything that wasn't work related 'Foxestalk' was a potential serious misconduct charge even during break/lunch times.

I think you worked at a place that's the other extreme! Most places don't mind if you spend some time perusing the internet. I certainly couldn't, and wouldn't, work in a place where they monitored what emails you sent.
Trav Le Bleu Posted 31 July 2008 Posted 31 July 2008 think I might have originally nicked this from an earlier thread on FT...

Actually the strictest employer was local government where I guess they have to be pretty strict, can you imagine the media frenzy if the found out local government employees were using the internet during work time and the email system for personal use.
Matt Posted 31 July 2008 Posted 31 July 2008 Internet + Work... I wish I had those luxury's in my job. However, Stuck in a sweaty office i'm glad I don't have that in my job
