Looks like Shorey will go Villa, this worries me because Mattock looks like a very Steve Coppell signing type signing for me.

Hopefully Mattock will be so bored listening to Coppell when they have talks he will run back into out lovin arms!

I really hope the lad stays!

I really hope he does stay and sticks to his word... I'd be surprised if he did go now as he'd have to do a lot to go straight into the first team so close to the start of the season... I think he'll stay now that we are about to kick off as he'll want to get us back into the Championship... he's a Lesta boy at heart. :D

But at Reading, a championship team, he would be in the first team a lot.

It's not like West Ham or Villa, where he'd be mainly a bench player.

Fair point... but I think he'll leave it 'till Christmas and see how things are going cause we might be going straight back up and then it'd be a shame for him to leave us and I think he might see it that way. Plus moving at such a young age... family... there are many things to consider... hopefully he'll stay though. :)

Mattock is still young and learning his trade. He and his advisors should help him get on with it with as little unnecessary pressure, interference and distraction as possible.

I can't really see it happening but if it did then it wouldn't be a bad little move for Joe. He would be getting regular first team football to learn his trade and also there is a chance of them getting promoted and then he will get a crack at premiership football a little later when he will be more developed as a player.

Who says he'd be getting regular first team football? Not on his current form he wouldn't. People talk about Premiership and Championship opportunities as if it's the Promised Land just waiting for our Joe to sup of it's milk and honey.

Well it could just as easily be a path to footballing oblivion and I see no point in him risking that while he's so young and there's no need. Mattock needs to spend this season becoming the accomplished attacking full-back he has so often been for the Academy.

That won't happen overnight because he's faced enough uncertainties and adaptation problems already at first team level through being exposed to situations he's not been fully comfortable with and then suffering the confidence sapping blow of being omitted from the side.

His posititional problems won't be cured by dropping him but by teaching him and supporting him but at Reading's level, as was the case with us, they just don't have that luxury. Results are too precious.

At City this season there will be chance. Leicester's attack will be so potent and there will be so many ex-Academy team-mates of Joe around the squad that he should quickly adapt naturally and without too much risk while he does it.

Any success we have will breed confidence and that will rub off on Joe just as much as everyone else. He's among friends here and should stay with those friends til he's certain he's mastered the challenges of our level and is ready to graduate still further.

Too easy, if he moves too soon, that he'll become a forgotten man in golden boots.

I think he will stay unless he moves to a premier league team as a reserve , And if he does surely he would benefit from staying with us ? As he will either be in the reserves for atleast a season or be loaned out again is there anything beneficial from that ?

SHEFFIELD UNITED left-back Chris Armstrong, 26, is a target for Reading.

Looks unlikely that mattock will be moving there now.

I'll tell you what tho'

Reading looked like they seriously needed a decent LB, Hunt who played LB for them (knocked the cech out) looked well out of place

Agree completely. This season could be the making of a few players, Mattock, King and Gradel for a start.
