Sorry but its widely accepted that Thatcher divided opinion. Some worship her some loathe her.

I think she did alot of bad for the country, there were some good things that came out of that Tory government but then you would expect a few given the time they had in power.

Good post. I often hear on TV and radio people spouting absolute bile about Thatcher when it is clear they were either not even born when she was Prime Minister or too young to know what was going on. It's part of the sheep like acceptance to follow what ever the present day celebrities political leanings are. In other words to fit in and be right on you have to parrot the nonsensicalness of the left. History says otherwise , she was duly elected and re- elected millions of people voted time and again for her something the left ignore or refuse to admit . Even when she stopped the miners Blackmailing the country people still re elected her, they are simple facts that cannot be ignored.

The best thing about Maggie Thatcher was that she had an ideology. The 'New Right' had a plan and stuck to it. Whether you were for it or against it, it was based upon a vision.

Nowadays I'm convinced that politicians will do literally anything to get votes. There is no ideology, no vision, just 'popularist' politics which changes with whatever wind will increase your standing.

It's hardly surprising the electorate are disillusioned and the three mainstream parties are as bad as each other.

I'm tempted to vote UKIP next time.

I guess it depends (like everything) on how it affected you personally, if your a minor you will hate her, if you were a banker you may love her....I guess you could make a pro and con list but the working classes were hit hard, poll tax, Sold off the Utility Companies to Private owners, Sold off all the council houses so that working class families can't get decent housing, Destroyed the Trade Unions, etc.... That's not to say she didn't do good things too.....just not that many.

She sold the council houses to the people who lived in them, at a discount. If you lived in a council house and were working class, that was a good thing.

The banks must have been short of mortgage applications in them days, good thing the banks didn't get to grow off the back of some of that and become uber greedy cvnts

I think you'll find that banks exist to lend money for profit. Having a successful business is not a crime.

She took their milk away and single handedly reduced the calcium levels in a generation of children.

Hence known as Thatcher the milk snatcher

That's nearly as bad as it gets.

Best thing she did,it was fooking horrible.Cream at the top and being left in the sun for hours I dreaded milk time at school.

You are showing your age or lack of knowledge. Back in 1979 Banks would not give working class people a mortgage simply because they did not earn enough to keep up with the payments so the alternative for most young couples was to get on the council house list. The Labour government prior to Thatchers election loved that status quo because it meant they had complete control over the working class's lives, the old cradle to grave socialism.

Then along came Thatcher who set out to inspire the working class to stand on their own feet and not depend on a nanny state. Her brilliant inspiration was to give council house tenants the right to buy their house at levels they could afford to pay for. This transformed peoples thinking and made them more self sufficient and gave them a sense of pride that even they could own their own house, something no Labour government would have dreamed of doing.

She was no saint and did an awful lot of wrong when she became too powerful but no one can take away the fact that she changed so many lives for the better in those early years of her government.

Well, to an extent, yes. They'd all say anything, and do pretty much anything but the tories still take decisions that are based on an ideology on the big items but cover it in the same populist fluff to hide it from people like putting a cat's worming tablets in a big piece of chicken or something. Except the cat's tablets aren't there to screw it over, so maybe not the best of analogies.

I thought it a excellent analogy.

And the thing to be thankful for is that when you're standing on your seat at The King Power the person sitting behind you still has a great view of the game.

Your naivety is that you believe that there was no motive other than doing it for the people. Governments, including the Labour party did it when they were in power in other instances.

Ok so in your opinion what exactly was her ulterior motive for letting people buy their council houses, what sinister trick did she play on them , what was in it for that evil government ? can you be a little more specific if that's possible.

There several reasons for this:

You would think by reducing the number of Council properties both on a regional and national basis this would allow the councils that were freed up by these burdens of upkeep, would have had the opportunities from these sales to reinvest back in to the local economy, but it didn't. All these sales went back into the financial pot to help reduce taxes for the rich, and distract these working class voters into thinking they were getting a great deal, whilst Thatcher's government went about stripping the assets of the country by selling up and privatising the utilities and anything else they could get their hand on. (This has worked out wonderfully!)

Ask the same people who joined the property ladder back then, and where they are now, and see if they are better off for it. All this great and good Thatcher supposedly set out worked out great in the end didn't it? I'd say along with the rest of the deregulation of the banks, and of course other elements within the greedy bank sector which the Thatchershites encouraged, it set up very nicely for the financial hole we are currently suffering.

All in all, a cvnty government, and successive greedy bastard governments have spent the last 30 years ****ing us all royally. Yes I'm generalising, but that never stops you posting any old shite with no facts.

So all the people who bought a house then or bought their council house are worse off than they were? You don't mix with a lot of working class people do you?
