Ricey Posted 20 November 2008 Posted 20 November 2008 How'd this go my little Ricicle?Anyway, I moved last night. I now live in London, OH YEAH It went well, been a Londoner for over 2 weeks now! Where abouts you living? I've got a flat in Barnet, right on the outskirts but I don't mind travelling.

I was in Reading and had to travel to Covent Garden every day to work and got fed up of the 90 minute journey via bus, then train, then tube. I'm now living in Paddington, just opposite St Mary's Hospital next to the station. One of my housemates works in Windsor so it's easy for him to pop to work and quite handy for me to see friends in Reading. Plus the commute to work takes a lot less time!

Covent Garden is a frustating place to get to from Paddington. It's a nice area to work though. I had a mullet for a week, some of the looks I got on the tube with that were priceless.
The People's Hero Posted 21 November 2008 Posted 21 November 2008 Mullets don't go down well on tubes....
Daggers Posted 21 November 2008 Posted 21 November 2008 oh, you will.... Mrs.D never used to mind the commute from Essex into Covent Garden at first. Then it became a drag. Then it was hell. Maybe it's not so bad if you get a seat on the train, no one touches you up and you love listening to iPods. This wasn't her experience. Still, it could be worse - it could be a commute into some miserable, gray, sack of shit Northern town.
Master Fox Posted 21 November 2008 Posted 21 November 2008 sack of shit Northern town. Northern England has to be one of the worst places to live in the entire world.

Benji Posted 21 November 2008 Posted 21 November 2008 Alex, how much is the rent in paddington if you don't mind me asking? Currently looking for a 2 bed flat with a mate for the 2nd term and I don't feel like being ripped off like last year in Camberwell. Also, estage agent or gumtree/other website?
James. Posted 21 November 2008 Posted 21 November 2008 I used to commute from Reading to Canary Wharf. That was one hell of a commute. Nasty train then nasty tube then a tube from hell. Jubille line at 8 in the morning. No thanks. Did that for 6 months. Now I walk to a boat pier, catch a boat and walk from the other pier to the office. All in under 20 minutes. Much better.

I worked in the Lehman Brothers office a few weeks ago for a couple of days, Canary Wharf has just become a ghost town!

Also, estage agent or gumtree/other website? I'm paying £525 a month. We're in a four bedroom flat over two floors about 100 yards from Paddington station. It should be a lot more, I'm not sure why it isn't. We've got it through Greater London Properties. How much were you paying in Camberwell if you don't mind me asking? An hour and a half a day. Frustrating. I only managed a month and a half, haha. £460 a month for that, not including bus fares! My new place is right next to Paddington Station (as I mentioned above) so it's pretty easy to go back to Reading. I can hop on the train and meet my friends in town if I fancy it, sweeeet. I also managed to start seeing the neighbour about two weeks ago. I'm good at meeting girls when I'm moving away in a month, I did the same with Annie.

It was a 5 bed terrace, worked out £530 a week for the house and it was a dump, the agents wouldn't fix anything, no hot water for the first month, no shower fitting for 3 months etc etc, mine was £110 a week for the middle sized room joke, i don't mind about £110 but considering it was south of the river and a horrible property, no thanks.

Wow, I'm beginning to think our flat's a ridiculously good price. Keep your eye on things, if I can manage to end up in a nice flat in zone 1 about 100 yards from Paddington station for £135 a week then anyone can! We got ours on the day it was put up on the internet and still nearly lost it to another bunch of people.
Lamby Posted 21 November 2008 Posted 21 November 2008 London isnt snobby, FACT And the Jubilee Line is fine I think, but try going on it at 7am, now that is worse
Alexikokopops Posted 21 November 2008 Author Posted 21 November 2008 I work near Covent Garden and believe me I'm not snobby, honest Well easy to go waste a lunch hour and most of your pay buying new togs round that way though I tell ya Neal Street is right up Alex's, err, street. I've managed to restrict my Neal Street spending to just a pair of shoes so far. I do need some new jeans though...
Alexikokopops Posted 19 February 2009 Author Posted 19 February 2009 I'm nmoving back to Reading in a month or so, haha. We move around different areas of the department as part of the Graduate scheme and I've been moved to one in my old office. Should hopefully be able to move back in my old house with my old housemates though, fingers crossed. I might be back in London again in six months, haha! Getting lots of experience in different areas and have a job in not an ideal economic time so can't really complain. Plus I miss my old housemates. And I'll be living next door to my girlfriend again.
