Corky Posted 2 September 2008 Posted 2 September 2008 Pearson's style of play suits him far better than Ollie's did and he's a proven Championship striker. If all goes well, Fryatt and Howard will be one hell of a potent pairing in League One. Nine goals between them already, plus two disallowed from Howard. They actually look like a partnership, and it's paying dividends sticking with the same strikeforce.

This is one VERY happy Foxes fan at the moment! :D Imagine... had we stayed up, we might have been doing a Derby or a Forest again this year and be struggling to get any wins!!! This IS a blessing in disguise that we went down me thinks!

Top class support Too right, almost 400 for a midweek game in a minor trophy at an awkward time of day (coaches left at 1.30) almost 200 miles away is impressive. Lincoln away next round would be good though.

Howard is already proven in the Championship and Fryatt will gain one hell of a lot of confidence from a successful season, they should also gain a good understanding of each other. We will need more firepower when ( ) promoted but both would be going back to the Championship as better players.

The Don Posted 2 September 2008 Posted 2 September 2008 From a pool forum "and that boys and girls ( leicester city ) is the standard by which.... all league one clubs will be judged this season. if they dont get automatic promotion this season i will never post on here again. id be amazed if there are 2 better teams than them in this league. once dickov went off they were in a different league to pools. they made collins and nelson look second rate, and that takes some doing at this level. ive already backed them before a ball was kicked to win league one this season and have just done so again. very impressive." I'm sure that will be the case if Pearson gets us promoted and stays to continue the job. Why we became so negative in recent years, and signed such unsuitable players, I've no idea. It was obvious what was needed. But I'm just relieved that all seems to be behind us now.

I don't care who the results come against, we're winning and scoring loads. And its ENTERTAINMENT all the way.

Lets hope we can bounce back into CChip(i know its early days!) and finally play and compete in that League with some players who think they can actually play with confidence and abit of style.

Interesting comment regarding dickov Dickov didn't really do a lot, he was always trying though which is what you want to see. They struggled with DJ's pace when he came on. Their fans were the quietest I've seen! Not one song or cheer or anything! Just like robots!

Nationwider Posted 2 September 2008 Posted 2 September 2008 They did ok tonight. It was my first glimpse of them this season, so it was interesting to see one or two new faces. A few observations: Hendo wasn't really stretched, but did everything that was asked of him on a very wet evening. Gilbert isn't a centre-back by any stretch of the imagination. O'Neill was very mistake-prone but stuck to his guns and looks like one for the future. Well done to him for a winning debut. Powell was my MOTM - pacy and solid. No-one stood out, although DJ deserves credit for the way he unselfishly played hs part in the 2nd and 3rd goals. If he can shake off Elvisitis and stop running offside all the time, he could still have a big part to play this season. Pools were a disappointment - on paper they should have been the best side we've faced this season, but they rested players and it showed. They will be better on Sept 27. They should have gone ahead in the first half when they briefly had the better of things.

dave_1988 Posted 2 September 2008 Posted 2 September 2008 Just got back from the match - I thought we started well but soon after we had a goal disallowed Hartlepool came into the match and they were quite tidy with the ball, and had a sustained period of pressure where we could hardly touch the ball. Second half we looked completely different, so credit to NP for whatever he said at half time. Howard looked strong against their centre halves and won the aerial ball numerous times and only gave a couple of free kicks away for pushing. He also looked good with the ball at his feet, although the Hartlepool keeper shouldn't have been beaten at his near post for the goal. Nicky Adams seemed lost in the first half, but he wasn't afraid to run at the full back in the second and he looked very composed to score his goal. O'Neill didn't look too comfortable in the first half either, so our right-side looked a bit crap to be fair, but in the second half he tried to support Adams going forward and he looked good for a youngster. Overall, good performance from the lads, unfortunately I missed Fryatt's goal as I had to catch the last train back to Newcastle!

I didn't go tonight obviously so I can't comment on that, but generally our play has been much more fluent and constructive than in previous years.
