Rodderz Posted 6 September 2008 Posted 6 September 2008 Personally, I just think he has found his level. Some might argue that he's more than good enough at Championship level, but I'm very skeptical about that. If we happen to get promoted, I certainly wouldn't trust Fryatt to lead our front line. I do regard him as a quality player, but i think possibly a bit over rated sometimes
Alexikokopops Posted 6 September 2008 Posted 6 September 2008 I agree with Ched if Fryatt was played in his natural position last season then we wouldn't have been relegated, but Holloway stuck with Howard every game, when it was obvious it didn't work. I don't want to get involved with the Fryatt debate at is goes round in circles, and for all the people who say people idolise him, i don't idolise him, i just think he has a very good footballing brain and if he gets the service (which he didn't last season) he will do well, and if he signs a new contract and we get back into the championship he will prove he can make it in that league aswell. I think he is better than this level but he has to have the service! Maybe i will be wrong (and if i am i take it back) but i'm glad he is finally getting a chance in his best position to prove himself and i hope it continues. He may have not scored many goals last season but when Howard played up front we looked static and didn't look like scoring but when Fryatt played up front we looked more like scoring as there was more movement up front Did you even read my post? He played 21 games pretty much in a row, all but one he started, and all of them as a striker. He scored 3 goals. It was only after this that he played 12 games where he was sub and sometimes played on the wing. Howard played 22 games, he scored 6 goals. I don't care about whatever reasons were behind Fryatt not performing, but PLEASE can we put to bed this myth that he didn't score many last season because he wasn't given a chance in his favoured position, or that he was in and out of the team? Yes, he was in and out of the team, and yes, he was played out of position, but that was after he'd had just the same opportunity as any other striker to prove himself and didn't. Here is my post you conveniently ignored, showing the games Fryatt played last season, where he played, and how many he scored Under Allen:Accrington away, forward, 0 goals Under Megson: Forest away, forward (sub), 0 goals Charlton away, forward, 0 goals Villa away, forward, 1 goal Stoke home, forward, 1 goal Wolves home, forward, 0 goals Wednesday away, forward, 0 goals Sheff Utd home, forward, 0 goals Under Burrows and Taggart: Barnsley home, forward, 0 goals Chelsea away, forward, 0 goals Colchester away, forward, 0 goals Preston away, forward, 0 goals Burnley home, forward, 0 goals Under Holloway: Bristol City away, forward, 1 goal (plus red card) Cardiff home, forward, 0 goals (3 games missed due to suspension) Ipswich away, forward, 0 goals Hull away, forward, 0 goals Wolves away, forward, 0 goals Ipswich home, forward, 0 goals Charlton home, forward, 0 goals QPR away, forward, 0 goals Southampton away, forward, 0 goals (dropped for the first time under Holloway, after 9 games and 1 goal playing up front under him, 5 games and 0 goals up front under Burrows and Taggart, and 7 games and 2 goals under Megson. That's 21 games and 3 goals playing as a forward since Megson took charge, having missed just four games since then, with three of those through suspension. To suggest he wasn't given a chance was ludicrous) Plymouth home, wing (sub), 0 goals Norwich home, forward (sub), 0 goals Preston home, forward (sub), 0 goals Bristol City home, wing (sub), 0 goals Southampton away, wing/forward (sub), 0 goals West Brom away, wing, 0 goals Hull home, wing, 0 goals S****horpe home, forward, 0 goals Sheff Utd away, forward, 0 goals Colchester home, forward (sub), 0 goals Wednesday home, wing/forward (sub), 0 goals Stoke away, forward (sub), 0 goals Disclaimer: This isn't negativity towards Fryatt this season. It is merely to shatter the myth that he wasn't given a chance up front last season. 21 games (only one of those a sub appearance) played as a striker with three goals scored before he was dropped vindicates the decision if you ask me. It was only after this that he was played on the wing. Can we please put it all to bed now?
clazkel Posted 6 September 2008 Posted 6 September 2008 I didn't ignore your post and i know what you are saying, but i think when Holloway dropped Fryatt that was when he was looking sharper than he had in a long time, and i think its ashame he was dropped at that point, yes he hadn't scored many goals but when he played up front i think we looked more like winning games as he gave more options than long ball to Howard. The stats don't look good, but i'm sure this season they will look alot better! Your right it should be put to bed now!

James. Posted 6 September 2008 Posted 6 September 2008 To bed it goes! He's scoring this season and that's all that matters. Yeah. And that's cos he's playing in his proper position.

Unfortunately dropping people seemed to be Holloway's only answer when someone played indifferently and was one of the major things that showed him up as the seriously limited manager he was. Generally I think that when a manager has to drop people (as opposed to resting them or accommodating others to enable them to stay sharp and involved) it is often a reflection on them and their man management as much as the player. Like others, I'm just glad that Pearson has allowed the Howard/Fryatt partnership time to flourish, taken the fear out of their performances by showing some belief in them and given them teammates skilled enough to give em plenty of chances.

Holloway dropped soo many players to bring in his own players, and it was ridiculous, all he needed to do was motivate the players we already had and bring in acouple of new players, but he toally changed the side and put down the players we already had by saying they weren't good enough. He stuck with Howard all the time when it was obvious it wasn't working. Players like Mattock were dropped, and Hayes and Sheehan were loaned out. I am glad Pearson has given the Fryatt/Howard relationship time aswell as they are really starting to gel. Howard is a totally different player this season, and this must be to do with Pearson's management.
Manwell Pablo Posted 8 September 2008 Posted 8 September 2008 Shame no-one took him up on this. Looking a bit dicey early doors. got to be the worlds worst football pundit, ever.
Matt Posted 8 September 2008 Posted 8 September 2008 Am I correct in thinking this is announced at 6.30pm tonight? I sure I read that somewhere but not sure, and as far as I can see no-one has been announced as player of the month yet.

Joe. Posted 8 September 2008 Posted 8 September 2008 He won't win win it surely? He's not even top goalscorer anymore!
davieG Posted 8 September 2008 Posted 8 September 2008 He won't win win it surely? He's not even top goalscorer anymore! Was he at the end of August though?
Joe. Posted 8 September 2008 Posted 8 September 2008 Was he at the end of August though? Very true, I forget it's just for August. Either way, I don't think he'll get it.
Uncle Albert Posted 8 September 2008 Posted 8 September 2008 Very true, I forget it's just for August. Either way, I don't think he'll get it. If there's any justice then he will.
clazkel Posted 8 September 2008 Posted 8 September 2008 Danny Graham (Carlisle) got player of the month for L1 for August. Ah well, there's another 9 months for Fryatt to win it if he keeps up the goalscoring!
Ric Flair Posted 9 September 2008 Author Posted 9 September 2008 To be fair, Fryatt probably hasn't been awarded a single man of the match yet, but he's got 6 goals in 5 starts. I am surprised he didn't get it, but he'll definitely be up for recognition again if he can improve his over all performances as well as keep banging the goals in. Danny Graham is fairly shit though, a bit embarassing.
