Ric Flair Posted 3 September 2008 Posted 3 September 2008 I thought it was time we had a thread on Fryatt. I've started a fair few in his time here and they have varied from me claiming he's the best striker in England to me wanting him put down. But after 4 full games, 45 minutes against Fulham and a sub appearance against Hartlepool and he's on 6 goals already this season. Wow. Familiar territory for Fryatt in this league, but with shattered confidence and a set of man boobs, it was no given he was going to perform this season at this level. So fair play to him and a big shout to Pearson for so far, getting the best out of him. When Fryatt is in this sort of form, you can't fail but to believe he's going to score in every match, even when he's not playing that well, he'll pop up and do something. Reminds me of what Michael Owen does, but obviously at a completely different level. This brings me on to the next thing. Contract. It's up next summer, and although he's under 24, he can still leave should he not sign a new one. I just wonder, if we offer him a new deal and he signs it, will his attitude change? It's human nature to sometimes take the foot off the gas and we've seen Fryatt do it before. I suppose it's early days yet and we should enjoy the goals that are coming his way. I am glad we didn't dispose of him over the last season or two, because he's now proving why I got so excited when we signed him in the first place. He doesn't have any outstanding attributes, just very effective when on his game and gets goals when in the mood. Must be that good 'base' of fitness he waffled on about in pre-season. Whatever that is, it's tickling Matty's fish. Keep it up and let's see double figures before the end of September.
Uncle Albert Posted 3 September 2008 Posted 3 September 2008 Fryatt really does need to sign a new contract pretty sharpish, just for the fact if he does keep banging the goals this season then Championship teams are going to come sniffing. I can see Fryatt to keep up his scoring form going, seems to have a very good partnership with Howard going. Coming back to what you said Ric about a likeness to Owen, Fryatt and Howard the League One Owen and Heskey? Ow I wish. Did Fryatt and Howard start a Championship game upfront together? Just hope he can keep it up.
James. Posted 3 September 2008 Posted 3 September 2008 I expect the Fryatt police to turn up shortly.
Stig the Lawnmower Posted 3 September 2008 Posted 3 September 2008 He's doing extremely well, without looking like a brilliant footballer. But some players have that unexpected knack of scoring goals when you wouldn't expect it. ie Gary Lineker (no, i'm not saying matty is another gary!) he never had classy skills, but kept knocking them in. maybe this IS mattys level, if so i'm glad we've got him. barring injury i'm sure his form will continue. when was the last time we had a striker scoring over 25 goals in a season?
Koke Posted 3 September 2008 Posted 3 September 2008 One would argue that Fryatt has probably found his level.
DanTheFox07 Posted 3 September 2008 Posted 3 September 2008 Well I Hope Fryatt sign`s a new contract to prove a lot of the doubters wrong and score goals in the championship if we get promoted this season?
JakeShingler Posted 3 September 2008 Posted 3 September 2008 Yeh hes doing well, but if we do get promoted do you think he will do well in the Championship
Fez of Mahrez Posted 3 September 2008 Posted 3 September 2008 I expect the "F**k's sake Fryatt is shit why do you all love him" Brigade to turn up shortly. They haven't got an awful lot to work with at the moment. I was sceptical of him and Howard as a partnership but the key to its success has been Lloyd Dyer in my opinion. Dyer is always looking to break beyond the opposition defence, perfect example being his second goal at Cheltenham. This gives opposing defenders an extra man to worry about and our counter-attacking this season has been a joy to behold. I expect the same of Gradel given time. Fryatt's goal last night was another good example of why he will score more goals this season. Our team as a whole is so much better man-for-man than any other in this division that he can afford to wander into the six-yard box for a tap-in like that whereas in the Championship our misfiring midfield meant he had to do vast amounts of work outside the area. He looks like a player full of confidence and even when he misses a couple of chances, he knows there will another along soon.
lildave3 Posted 3 September 2008 Posted 3 September 2008 I'll give him his dues, he's scoring goals, being in the right place at the right time. But he still has alot of improvement to make on his all round game.
Bert Posted 3 September 2008 Posted 3 September 2008 I hate him. Ruined a, at the time correct scorecast with only four minutes left to go Other than that, I'm really pleased with the start that he's made and hope he can continue it.
Collymore Posted 3 September 2008 Posted 3 September 2008 When Fryatt is in this sort of form, you can't fail but to believe he's going to score in every match, even when he's not playing I agree
morris1234 Posted 3 September 2008 Posted 3 September 2008 player of the month? http://www.lcfc.premiumtv.co.uk/page/Lates...1383769,00.html
xxinxsxx Posted 3 September 2008 Posted 3 September 2008 I agree we need him to sign another 3 1/2 yr deal he and howard are looking good together and i think they will fire us into the champ .Come on nigal get it sorted please.
Bryn Posted 3 September 2008 Posted 3 September 2008 I think if he maintains this level of fitness and confidence and we continue with an attacking lineup he'd score goals at Championship level as well.
Bert Posted 3 September 2008 Posted 3 September 2008 I'm sure NP knows his contract situation, and with the way Fryatt's going at the minute I'm sure negotiations if they haven't already started, will do in the near future.
Teeno Posted 3 September 2008 Posted 3 September 2008 Contract wise I don't think anything should be done just yet, as Fryatt can very easily dip in and out of form. I really do hope he keeps it up as he's a good lad and despite he's shocking season last time around I've always had a feeling he would come good. The fact that this is the first time we've really seen him blossom since when he first joined us could be because he has found his level, or it could be that he is a lot fitter, hungrier and is now playing for a new contract. I think if he keeps this up then by Christmas time we should defiantly be sitting him down and getting him to sign an extension. Next season would be interesting, if we were to go up and he carried on the way he is would he cut it in the championship? At the minute from what I've seen of him I don't think he is good enough to be starting week in week out in that division. However this could be the start of a new Fryatt. Like a few people have said he will never be a spectacular football, but he is an Owen/Lineker type player and a lot of his game is about being in the right place at the right time. Well done Matty, I don't think I've seen such a transformation in a player from one season to the next for a long long time. I'm pleased he's reaping the rewards and his hard work in Pre season seems to be paying dividends.
Jonbluefox9 Posted 3 September 2008 Posted 3 September 2008 This brings me on to the next thing. Contract. It's up next summer, and although he's under 24, he can still leave should he not sign a new one. I just wonder, if we offer him a new deal and he signs it, will his attitude change? It's human nature to sometimes take the foot off the gas and we've seen Fryatt do it before. Interesting question regarding will his attitude change. I'd like to think not but you never know. Some players seem to up their game just because their contract is in its last year but I don't think that's been the case with Fryatt. I think it's just a coincidence that we've been relegated to League One and he's found some form as his contract draws to an end.
Joe. Posted 3 September 2008 Posted 3 September 2008 I don't think Pearson will give it too long before he gets another contract. If he keeps this goal scoring form up the vultures from higher places will be circling eventually. As for the possible change of attitude with a possible new contract, I couldn't see it happening to be honest. He's clearly enjoying his football here at the moment and it's the first time he's hit this sort of goal scoring form with anybody really. As an aside, he should be grateful of any sort of contract offer coming his way after his form over the last two seasons. I think it's inevitable he'll get one soon enough.
davieG Posted 3 September 2008 Posted 3 September 2008 Fryatt In The Running Posted on: Wed 03 Sep 2008 Leicester City striker Matty Fryatt is one of four players nominated for the League One player of the month award. Fryatt bagged five goals in five games during August - propelling him to the top of the goalscoring charts. And the Foxes frontman is now up against Jermaine Beckford (Leeds United), Danny Graham (Carlisle) and Chris Taylor (Oldham Athletic) for the gong. The winner will be announced on Sky's Big League Weekend 2 programme on Monday evening. Meanwhile, supporters are reminded that Nigel Pearson has been nominated for the League One Manager of the Month award. The winning boss will be revealed at 1:20pm tomorrow (Thursday) on SKY Sports News.
Dr The Singh Posted 3 September 2008 Posted 3 September 2008 He's come back from the dead and with style, people may say this is his level but aslong as he keeps the goals comming and performance's rolling, i'm not complianing!! As for next seaason\champoinship, let's get there first, I have a feeling he will do well there also!!!
maddog Posted 3 September 2008 Posted 3 September 2008 Good start as he should be in this division. But i certainly won't forget the season after season of shit with him, awful open goal misses, lazy fooker attitude useless tosser, we had that for over 3 seasons. He will be back to the same old useless fat lazy bastard when we get back to the Championship though. He's certainly helping my league 1 fantasy football team a bit.
morris1234 Posted 3 September 2008 Posted 3 September 2008 Interesting question regarding will his attitude change. I'd like to think not but you never know. I think it's just a coincidence that we've been relegated to League One and he's found some form as his contract draws to an end. yeah it is an interesting question. it depends on what Np's man management skills are like and if he can keep them motivated, confident and be consistant in rewarding them when they work hard with games.
Jonezy Posted 3 September 2008 Posted 3 September 2008 I hate Fryatt when he doesn't score goals and miss vital chances (like the one at Saints last season), but I love Fryatt when he bags loads of goals and I especially love his new habit of securing games late. I know there has been a bit of for Fryatt/against Fryatt on this forum, and now apparently everyone, who have mustered a bad word about him when he didn't excactly set the world alight in the last 2 seasons have to bite their pride and confess. I confess. I'm sure most of us would have accepted a sale of Fryatt in the summer with a happy face after what we have witnessed the last few seasons, but that goes for all our strikers, well most the frickin squad actually. As for his contract. Of course the only logical thing to do as this moment is to try and get him to extend it. I hope this new confident and fit Fryatt can be our profilic striker to shoot us back into the Championship, and so far he looks like it. I'm not too sure he can be as prolific in the league above, actually I doubt it, as I haven't forgotten the last few seasons yet, but I would love my doubt being brought to shame by a free scoring Fryatt in the Championship next year.
mancunianfox Posted 3 September 2008 Posted 3 September 2008 Fryatt looks like he's on to score twenty by Christmas let alone the end of the season. He was getting a lot of chances when he played last season which he wasted...some of which were some of the most apalling misses I have ever seen. This season he is getting the same chances and scoring and that is probably a confidence thing that Pearson and his staff must play a part in. I only really worry about strikers when they aren't getting any chances at all.
