Fez of Mahrez Posted 10 April 2005 Posted 10 April 2005 Compared with a lot of the dross that I've seen represent our good club over the years (from the grace and skill of early Ormondroyd or Benjamin to the sheer pace and eye for goal of Mark de Vries), David Connolly looks a class above. However, he seems to find it difficult to score goals. Is this due to him being rubbish, or having to play alongside a succession of footballing cretins? You decide.
Anish Posted 10 April 2005 Posted 10 April 2005 Yes he should be first choice next season, unless we get somebody better (which I can't see happening).
stez Posted 10 April 2005 Posted 10 April 2005 so long as we can get someone to get the ball to him (de vies head or whoever) and he doesn't have to go searching for the ball, he'll be fine next season
Wellman Posted 10 April 2005 Posted 10 April 2005 I think Connolly should be our 1st choice next year. He's got what? 10 goals this year? So what!!! :D I LIKE HIM IN A CITY SHIRT
Chimp Posted 10 April 2005 Posted 10 April 2005 Connolly works hard for us, I don't think I've ever seem him put in less than 100%, even if he isn't the most prolific scorer his presence on the field has been invaluable to us. Maybe a little better support and service from the midfield (which we are starting to see) will bring more goals?
Little Nicky Posted 10 April 2005 Posted 10 April 2005 Definately be first choice next year! He'll be prolific next season with a quality player next to him and Hughes and Williams providing from behind!
filbertway Posted 10 April 2005 Posted 10 April 2005 Get rid. <_< 90904 How come? expalin....
Fox 4 Life Posted 10 April 2005 Posted 10 April 2005 Definetly keep him, he is a class player just made look average by some of the other shit in our team!
Steven Posted 10 April 2005 Posted 10 April 2005 Get rid. <_< 90904 How come? expalin.... 90974 He has been unproductive playing alongside any number of players. Surely one must have suited him.
Scow Posted 10 April 2005 Posted 10 April 2005 Get rid. <_< 90904 How come? expalin.... 90974 He has been unproductive playing alongside any number of players. Surely one must have suited him. 90992 Not necessarily. Let's think of the partners he's played with consistently this season. Dion Dublin - Poor James Scowcroft - Poor Mark de Vries - Poor He has also played alongside Blake and Benjamin, but only for a few games. He's got 10 goals this season (Albeit 4 penalties) but he is the best striker we have at our disposal by far. I think he's been unlucky this season, Connolly is clearly a player with ability. He's scored over 40 goals in 60 games in this division with Wimbledon, that's no fluke. I believe he'll come good, and reaching double figures for this season is a respectable achievement, given some of the dross he's played alongside this season.
Sparky Posted 10 April 2005 Posted 10 April 2005 keep him , he will score goals if we keep the ball on the deck
Guest Posted 10 April 2005 Posted 10 April 2005 He has no confidence. Whilst I hope he regains it, how long do you wait before you realise it's not going to work out for him here, and the best thing for both parties is to move on amicably?
Sam Posted 10 April 2005 Posted 10 April 2005 Compared with a lot of the dross that I've seen represent our good club over the years (from the grace and skill of early Ormondroyd or Benjamin to the sheer pace and eye for goal of Mark de Vries), David Connolly looks a class above. You decide. 90841 I think it's more that he's the problem. Proven goalscorers have played alongside him he's had about 5 strike partners this season and in none of these pairings have we found goals regularly. Levein and Adams have both seemed to be to afraid to drop him and there hasn't really been many games at all without Connolly playing. I think he's absolutely crap and should be sold soon.
Steven Posted 10 April 2005 Posted 10 April 2005 Agree with the last two posters, particularly with the tone Lisa struck.
Sparky Posted 10 April 2005 Posted 10 April 2005 im still standing by him and hope he can come good , he has been a proven goalscorer at this level and that shouldnt change just because he has joined us , lets face it , what BETTER option have we got
C-man Posted 10 April 2005 Posted 10 April 2005 Keep him, if he can get a partnership going with a big man (like Dickov and Deane), he'll score bags of goals because hes a quality player in a crap team at the moment. We just need to find that partner....
Bert Posted 10 April 2005 Posted 10 April 2005 The guy is pure class imo, keep him he'll bag 20 for us nxt season and if we do sell him you know.... he'll come back to haunt us, just like most people we've sold have

step Posted 11 April 2005 Posted 11 April 2005 Much as I like his work rate. I think his lack of confidence causes him to lose it in front of goal. He takes so many touches to control the ball that the defenders are on to him before he shoots and when he does get a clear chance at goal he never tries to go round the keeper or even shoot past the keeper, he just shoots with out thinking, which inevitably goes straight into the keepers arms. I hope he can get his act together and I would agree he has not had the support/ service he needs but most of the opertunities he has had, he has missed, which tells me he is not going to be the answer to our problems. If next season he is the best we have, then next season we will end up in the same situation that we are in now and as we need a striker that can score 20+ goals per season, I dont think that the club can afford to take that risk. After all we all remember what PT and AA did to us. We need another striker.
Fez of Mahrez Posted 12 April 2005 Author Posted 12 April 2005 Let's strap a rocket to de Vries' arse (should be able to fit one they use for space-shuttles on that almighty tush), whack him over the head and tell him he's Pele when he comes round. Either that or flog the useless bastard to the first taker and bring in someone who resembles a professional footballer. Preferably Thierry Henry, if he fancies moving to Oadby.
Hazza Posted 12 April 2005 Posted 12 April 2005 First choice for me, i love the little guy for his effort and he's shown in the past how good he can be. I'll stick my neck out and say that if he is first choice for us next season, he'll score at least 20 goals
TrickyTrev Posted 12 April 2005 Posted 12 April 2005 Not good enough. He is not composed in front of goal and does not have the physical attributes, either pace or strength, to pose a threat to defenders.

Don't know if that says most about Connolly or De Vries!!
