Uncle Albert Posted 19 September 2008 Posted 19 September 2008 They aren't doing very well atm, already 2 down. Not been watching the fourballs tonight, I know Garcia and Jimanez were 2 down how they fairing up now? What a bit of play though Garcia and Westwood on the final hole. Poulter has played some brilliant golf today, just hope he can keep it up and show why Faldo picked him as a wildcard.

Garcia and Jimenez are just plodding along not really threatening a comeback unfortunately. Apart from Poulter and Rose, Europe appear to be capitulating like this morning. Harrington and McDowell have thrown a 3 shot lead away and are now one down and Westwood and Hansen are now only 1 up after a good start.

I know it is early saying this but I wish we had the American way of picking the team. They have 4 wildcard picks compared to our 2. Yes merit probably does deserve it but alot of the players can get into the Europe team and they havent even come up against the likes of Mickleson and co. Unless its the majors and they fail in them. People like Oliver Wilson and McDowell in my eyes shouldnt be in the team until they have proven themselves on the US Tour and they have gained some experience playing against the bigboys. Im not saying this will be the fault if Europe go on to lose but it will have had some impact on it.
dandannieldanok Posted 19 September 2008 Posted 19 September 2008 Fear not, Jimenez has holed a 30 footer having done nothing for 9 holes and Mickelson has just missed one. We're up in 2, level in 1 and losing 1.
Fox You Forest Posted 19 September 2008 Posted 19 September 2008 Good put by Poulter, He's never convinced me though.
Uncle Albert Posted 19 September 2008 Posted 19 September 2008 I fear a pasting is on the cards Not really. If we can stay two behind by the end of tonight then tomorrow will be alright. Europe always play well in the singles. Casey (I hate to say) will shine and so will Jimanez in the singles.
DJ Barry Hammond Posted 19 September 2008 Posted 19 September 2008 There's an air of confidence in the american camp - and it's not as if the europeans haven't had there chances - mean we were coasting after 9, how things change too quickly!
The Reverend Posted 19 September 2008 Author Posted 19 September 2008 Well we're coming back into it after a pasting in the foursomes. If we could get the score level at the end of the days play, we've done well. We've gotta pull our fingers out though. The Yanks look much better than the last few years. I think Tigers absence in the squad has had an effect on team spirit. I just think they are that much in awe of him, they cant handle it, now hes not there, they're doing a lot better.
Fox You Forest Posted 19 September 2008 Posted 19 September 2008 There is an awful long way to go yet.
Fox You Forest Posted 19 September 2008 Posted 19 September 2008 Looks more like ending 6-2 down Faldo out!
Uncle Albert Posted 19 September 2008 Posted 19 September 2008 Faldo out! 3,000 posts Thats where all the cool people are at.

I wonder if it's more that he's a grumpy git / very self focused, so unlike Mickleson wouldn't talk to his team mates around the course. Mickleson's a great player for the American's to have, I'm sure he help's bring everyone together. I'm not sure there's that type of character in the European squad this year - that was big Monty in my eyes. Lets face it - 4 years in a row was a bit greedy, it seems like we're going to give it back no questions asked.
Wycombe Fox Posted 19 September 2008 Posted 19 September 2008 Europe always play well in the singles.. Not true sadly. Europe have got the better of the USA in the singles on only four out of the last 15 Ryder Cups. We need to turn it round tomorrow.
Tommeh Posted 19 September 2008 Posted 19 September 2008 bad 1st day in the end after a decent start, we're still in it though, without poulter and rose though we really would be struggling. don't watch too much golf but always get into the ryder cup bit like the ashes in cricket

Fox You Forest Posted 19 September 2008 Posted 19 September 2008 what a shot. Couple of last chances.
purpleronnie Posted 20 September 2008 Posted 20 September 2008 Did you hear Westwood moaning about how boo weekly (that name always makes me laugh) went OTT after holeing his long putt? What a loser, get on with you muppet. This is America live with it!!!

purpleronnie Posted 20 September 2008 Posted 20 September 2008 I know but its not like westwood had to putt whilst all the noise was going on.
James. Posted 20 September 2008 Posted 20 September 2008 We should know by now that Americans lack 1. respect and 2. dignity.
Fox You Forest Posted 20 September 2008 Posted 20 September 2008 It would take me at least 2 weeks to get round that golf course at around +375.
Milky Posted 20 September 2008 Posted 20 September 2008 Westwood & Garcia dropped. Controversial! Hopefully it pays off, cus he's setting himself up if it doesn't work out.
