SamL Posted 19 October 2008 Posted 19 October 2008 I would like the team to be: Hendo Gilbert Hobbs Tunchev PowellHayles Oakley King DyerHoward Fryatt Subs: Hobbs, Gradel, Berner, Adams, Kisnorbo Hayles? It'd be like last season all over again. One step forward, two steps back. Please don't play Hayles on the wing.
clazkel Posted 19 October 2008 Posted 19 October 2008 Yeah i know what you mean he's a striker and should play as a striker, but he should have gained confidence from his loan at Cheltenham, and would be good time to play him, but Fryatt and Howard are working well together at the min. I feel lately we have been lacking alittle on the right wing so maybe he should get a chance there, but i know what you are saying. Maybe go for it and play 3 upfront, or Howard just behind the front 2 (of Hayles and Fryatt). I know last season many fans didn't rate Hayles but i actually thought he played well on the wing especially when defending

Thracian Posted 19 October 2008 Posted 19 October 2008 Seriously, it's Quorn in a friendly, hardly a big deal is it. I just fail to understand why that game has been quoted. He's played in the position lots of times. It would just be interesting to see how he copes with the role in the first team, seeing we seem to be short of a creative midfielder alongside King and the more the different positions are filled with people who can potentially score goals the better. Anyway, it matters not cos it won't happen.

Your damn right it wont happen!! Not for us or any other side at our level or above!! Why dont you get over Porter Thracian, if he was that good he would be a rugular in the 16 but the fact is he isnt, simple as that. The lad will struggle to make it at any level as a profesional footballer, i think he will end up in non-league eventually. I have nothing against him and want any Leicester player to do well but he just isnt good enough, im afraid the odd flashes of skill dont wash with most managers! I will let you carry on moaning about it and backing him which is fair enough as your entitled to your own opinion but lets see what you think of the lad in 2 or 3 years!!!

In Porter's last competitive outing, Chelsea away I believe, he came on and played pretty well. That's the last time I've seen him play. Personally, I'd give the lad a chance at League One level. Fryatt's already proven he can cut it at this level so there's no reason why Levi can't do the same. I think it's a little harsh about him never making it as a professional footballer. I think he will, just not at any level higher than where we are. Lloyd's made the left wing position his own and playing Porter in the middle is too much of a gamble. Porter isn't anywhere near the 16 because Pearson rates Dyer, Adams and Gradel more than Porter, and so do I at the moment.

I doubt there's one senior player who doesn't rate Porter but if you are satisfied with the team as it is then nothing I say will change that. I'm not, despite our results sequence so far. In fact I don't there's anything like enough pressure on established players for their places with the result the too many are playing slightly below their best and our old failing of not having enough threat from enough places is beginning to show. And one people start talking about being pleased with a point from Oldham you know that we're not having sufficient faith in ourselves and that we're not showing sufficient ambition. For me that represents an albeit distant alarm bell. You might have given up on Porter just as some seem to be giving up on Gradel. But I don't feel like that at all. It's not just about those two anyway but about the pressure that others, like Mattock, can apply as well. Not that we seem to have too many options with people like DJ, Dickov and Chambers having all but disappeared, but given those limitations, it is vital that the people I've mentioned stay involved and are given chance to press for places. .
LCFC123 Posted 19 October 2008 Posted 19 October 2008 I think the same 16 used against Oldham is likely to be those used against Walsall, perhaps with some of the subs in that game starting instead of those who didn't perform to their best in the game. Would like to see Mattock on the bench though.
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 19 October 2008 Posted 19 October 2008 Am I the only one that thinks McKay could be a useful sub?
LCFC123 Posted 19 October 2008 Posted 19 October 2008 Am I the only one that thinks McKay could be a useful sub? i would say he'd be worth a try, looked quality in the reserves last season and has got an eye for goal
Thracian Posted 20 October 2008 Posted 20 October 2008 Am I the only one that thinks McKay could be a useful sub? Smashing player if a bit lightweight for a striker. Sees the game well and while he has the appetite for a shot that Fryatt possesses he's also a player who makes selfless runs and good passes to bring others into the game. Often an academy or reserves team lacks a bit of sparkle when he's not playing because he's absolutely tireless and never stops trying whatever the score. Before anyone takes those observations and somehow translates them into me saying he's a superstar I haven't got a clue how he'd get on in the first team. My feeling is that he'd find it hard to adjust at first and that his lightweight stature would be a bit vulnerable. But our best-ever footballer, Davie Gibson, was McKay's build - and in a day when the hard cases really did take people out. So maybe McKay will cope and bloody good luck to him if he gets the chance.
Ric Flair Posted 20 October 2008 Posted 20 October 2008 Martin Gilbert Hobbs Tunchev Mattock Gradel King Oakley Dyer Fryatt Howard Subs: Kisnorbo, Adams, Henderson, Powell, Hayles
Simi Posted 20 October 2008 Posted 20 October 2008 I think we're missing Dickov at the moment to be honest. Fryatt is not effective for 90 minutes and Howard doesn't always have the legs for the full 90. Having Dickov on Saturday would have helped us greatly I reckon, some of the balls into the box were just lacking that near post runner or someone that could make a run down one of the channels. Also, towards the end of the game from when they scored, I thought Oldham were allowed to dictate the tempo of the game which allowed them to pressure us a lot more than we wanted. Having Dickov in the team tends to help when closing people down.

Sods Posted 20 October 2008 Posted 20 October 2008 Personally. Martin Gilbert Tunchev Hobbs Pow! Adams Oakley King Dyer Howard Fryatt Subs Henderson Mattock Kisnorbo Gradel Hayles
smokey Posted 20 October 2008 Posted 20 October 2008 Am I the only one that thinks McKay could be a useful sub? No, hes a great little player! I think he needs to build up his strength but looks like a great reader of the game and makes some lovely runs. I believe a 3 month or season long loan at maybe a League 2 club would do him the world of good because theres something there.

Because Oakley has been devastating or something? At the moment we have two realistic central midfielders. If one of them got injured someone would have to play there. Previously it would have been Weso but in my view Porter is different class to either of them as an attacker. And our not involving a third central midfielder is the far greater risk, especially if either King or Oakley get injured.

fordy_uk2005 Posted 20 October 2008 Posted 20 October 2008 Mattock or Berner in for Powell. I'd prefer Gradel in for Adams too. The goals seem to have dried up big time since the Gilbert/Gradel, Mattock/Dyer combinations were interupted, we are much more of a threat when we're able attack with pace from both sides. do you know anything? mattock got injured in second game we'd only scored 2 or 3 before then. as for gradel apart from being quick what does he have to offer?suppose you were one who thought levi porter was good aswell? just becuse there small dont mean you have to pity them. you obviously dont go down regular.
Corky Posted 20 October 2008 Posted 20 October 2008 Martin Gilbert Hobbs Tunchev Berner Adams Oakley A. King Dyer Fryatt Howard Subs: Henderson Kisnorbo Morrison Gradel Hayles (maybe?)
Thracian Posted 20 October 2008 Posted 20 October 2008 Er perhaps because one of the things you harp on about?Lack of match practice? And what happens if King or Oakley are injured? He's had a couple of reserve games, when the team appears to have played well, so I can't see what more he can do fitness wise in the present circumstances. On the one hand fans say we need a bit more threat from central midfield yet they are afraid to take any action that just might give us some. Football is full of risk but we more than two months away from the mid-season transfer window and, with Dickov, Chambers and Campbell injured, I really don't understand the sense in allowing one of the few attacking options we have to get match rusty.

You always moan about players being rusty due to lack of match practice, but when they're your chosen ones, it matters not. It's laughable it really is. He's never had a first team game at centre midfielder, and that's because he isn't equipped to play there.
