Mark Posted 19 October 2008 Posted 19 October 2008 Mattock or Berner in for Powell. I'd prefer Gradel in for Adams too. The goals seem to have dried up big time since the Gilbert/Gradel, Mattock/Dyer combinations were interupted, we are much more of a threat when we're able attack with pace from both sides.

Mattock played 2 games and whilst he was on the pitch we scored 3 goals, so you can hardly say the goals have dried up! Berner was poor yesterday when he came on (OK he might have been out of position), so I can't really see your point about dropping Powell after how solid he's been since his introduction!

Two games maybe, but he had a hand in goals in both games that he played in and we kept two clean sheets, we seem to be conceeding more now possibily because we can't finish teams off - lack of options going forward...? Has Powell offered us anything going forward?
SamL Posted 19 October 2008 Posted 19 October 2008 I see no reason to drop Powell, he's been pretty solid since he came in.

Daggers Posted 19 October 2008 Posted 19 October 2008 I'd like to see us go for the jugular against a team who aren't piling in goals away from home. I'd like to see an attacking 4-3-3 and a shedload of goals on a Tuesday night. That's what I'd like to see. But I have a parents' evening so I can't.

Thracian Posted 19 October 2008 Posted 19 October 2008 There will never be a better time to play Porter and King in midfield with Gradel and Dyer outside them. And to put Mattock on in a genuine wing-back role just like the one he's been known to play so well for the Academy . Let's see exactly how well we can attack when we give ourselves the chance cos while everyone else seems satisfied about collecting a point from Oldham, the impression I got was that we scored and tried to sit on it instead of going all out for a second. One day the penny will finally drop that sitting back defending doesn't work. Half the reason we're doing so well defensively is not because we've got world class defenders but because the opposition are having to use up valuable resources keeping our attack in check. Oakley's huffed and puffed quite steadily but he's also been anonymous at times and I'd like to see how our attack functions with Porter pulling some of the distributive strings.

To point 1: I really cannot see that happening. Levi just doesn't have the physical ability to play in that role. To Point 2: Also at times King has been just as anonymous. But I wouldn't mind seeing Levi being played in the 'hole' in a cup game but not on Tuesday night or anytime soon because he played well there against Quorn in pre-season.
