demon_dog Posted 26 October 2008 Posted 26 October 2008 What you would like to see;Martin Gilbert - if fit, if not Berner. Tunchev Kisnorbo Mattock Gradel Oakley Adams Dyer Howard Fryatt Hendo in goal please. Anyone but Fryatt, even Santa Claus, he may present us with a few goals.
Thracian Posted 26 October 2008 Posted 26 October 2008 Henderson; Berner, Kisnorbo, Tunchev, Mattock; Gradel, Oakley, King, Dyer; Porter, Howard. Subs: Martin, Hobbs, Adams, McKay, Hayles. I see little point in persisting with Fryatt. Okay he had a goals flurry at the start of the season but he seems back to normal now, his limitations remain clear and his contribution to the flow of the team is woeful. I would like to see McKay given some time. He's still a bit lightweight but he's a team player personified. He will run all day for the cause and if someone makes a run of their own he'll play them in. He's a good finisher too given the chance. Porter would be given a free role in midfield to help provide the runs and the one-two passes from which everyone will benefit. Not only that but his positional awareness wil; enable King to make more runs into the box. Porter's constant omision has been a crime and his return might give us some chance of playing as a unit again. It will also takes some pressure off our stalwart central midfielders who have done so much to prserve what is still an impressive record for the season so far.
Webbo Posted 26 October 2008 Posted 26 October 2008 Berner's earned his chance to start. I think we need a little change in the midfield, who though I'm not sure.

Sometimes I wonder what the world is coming to. Fryatt is our top scorer. I am not necessarily opposed to dropping him from the starting XI but dropping him from the squad? You've got to figure that everyone has a bad game. And I disagree entirely with the notion that he brings nothing to the team. He holds the ball up well and he's only shooting on sight because he's full of confidence. Many on here have criticised him before for not shooting when he should have done. And he works bloody hard for the team which is a damn sight more than can be said for the likes of DJ. You're not willing to give Fryatt time but you consistently come on here and defend woeful performance after ineffectual performance from Andy King. My team: Henderson Hobbs Tunchev Kisnorbo Powell Gradel Oakley King Dyer Howard Fryatt/Dickov And King's only in the team because we're shockingly short of options in the centre. If Weso and Clemence were fit in my book he wouldn't even make the bench.

Just look at his overall goals record for a striker per number of games played. As for Weso and Clemence they've both had their stints and look where we are. King replaced Weso cos we were conceding goals in friendlies and because King can score a few. We've now had eight clean sheets this season and King's scored three, might easily have been four yesterday. As for Clemence he hardly made our world shake when he was playing and I doubt he will be fit to play again at least anytime soon.

There's no way our current defence is going to stop lumping the bal whenever they're under pressure, especially now the otherwise stalwart Kisnorbo is back and Gilbert is injured. At least if Howard's surrounded by passers and movers he might hae some options for his flicks.

The problem, of course, is one of strength in that department - DJ, Dickov are too prone to injury to be able to get a consistent run in the side - maybe its time to try the young uns. Ash Chambers, when fit, has the pace to scare defences, and is nearly back to fitness

I have seen better target men in league one this season, lets spend some money, drop Howard (for fooks sake) and progress the club

It's not even the end of October. And he doesn't score for two games and you want him dropped? As for King, do you not think it's the fact that our defence is amazing that helping us keep 8 clean sheets? Our first choice back four would feature an Arsenal loanee, a Bulgarian international, an Australian international and the England Under-21 left back. I appreciate that King has scored 3 goals in a winning team. But Fryatt has 9. Three times as many. Which you'd say is what you'd be looking for from a striker compared to a midfielder who you are feting as the greatest thing since sliced bread. But you still want Fryatt dropped. Fryatt and Howard have formed a good partnership and, as I keep saying, we're fourth with a game in hand. All teams go on bad runs at some point during the season. And if our bad run is 3 games of draws with Fryatt and Howard up front then let's keep it that way. They'll come good again soon enough. Patience is the key - nobody said this was going to be easy.
Thracian Posted 26 October 2008 Posted 26 October 2008 he dont do it well enough Thrac - if we want to/need to play with a target man, lets get a better one!!! I have seen better target men in league one this season, lets spend some money, drop Howard (for fooks sake) and progress the club Hey, I'm not making a case for him above anyone else who might be out there. Only in relation to what we've got now. And our options for "holding" centre-forwards are pathetic right through the club. I'd even be happy with two quick guys if there was any chance of some cultured football from the back, but there's not. We seem to be back to stop-it-and-ship-it. It's bad enough having a sodding goalkeeper who takes an age to get the ball out - even in the first few minutes when we're desperate for a bit of impetus and urgency. The way Martin plays you'd think it was always 1-0 to us and he was winding down time.
Webbo Posted 26 October 2008 Posted 26 October 2008 Imho Fryatt holds the ball up well and Howard wins his fair share of headers. What we are lacking is a midfielder breaking forward to support the attack. That may be down to the formation we are playing leaving us short in the middle. It might be worth only playing 1 winger and letting him roam as he pleases and play an extra man in the centre. Or tell the winger without the ball to come inside and support when the other winger has the ball.
Jimmy Posted 26 October 2008 Posted 26 October 2008 you shouldn't be looking for Fryatt to hold the ball up, that's Howard's job, the problem is Fryatt seems at times to lack the footballing brain needed for Sunday League

Patience is the key - nobody said this was going to be easy. a) This isn't just a bad run - the side has lost it's sparkle and something needs to be done to put it back. b) No I don't think our defence is amazing. Dogged is the word I'd use. It's very vulnerable in certain situations and against certain types of players. It looked decidedly shaky yesterday in all sorts of ways. Fortunately at Leicester we do tend to defend as a team even if we don't attack as one. c) Concerning Fryatt I could cite you any number of lengthy spells when he hasn't scored at all. And the problem to me is how the team attacks when he's not scoring, which isn't very well. If by dropping Fryatt I could get the team to function smoothly and start scoring goals again, from whatever source, then of course I'd do it. If it didn't work I'd think again but I wouldn't be happy with the way we're playing at the moment. We should still have won yesterday but we weren't what I consider to be a team.
The People's Hero Posted 26 October 2008 Posted 26 October 2008 In terms of potentially dropping Fryatt... do we have a match fit potential replacement? I know DJ has problems with his groin and Dickov with his back. Hayles could be an option I suppose. Other than that - who else is there?

I don't get that at all, to me this is his main advantage over Henderson who takes an unbelievable time to distribute the ball rarely ever throwing it and when he kicks it is as bad as Martin. We must be watching different games.

We must be watching different games. Just a recording of his first 10 minutes would suffice. I mentioned it to the guys sitting next to me and various people around me were getting on to him about it. Goalkicks especially. He did nothing at all to help our tempo. In fact I thought his distribution yesterday was wretched. The suicide throw to Mattock, the time lost in strolling across goal to take his goalkicks from the right, his aimless or overhit kicking. No, whatever he's offered in distributive genius in the past was rarely on view yesterday save a couple of quick throw outs to Gradel.
