Ric Flair Posted 1 December 2008 Posted 1 December 2008 My mate has just spent a week in Copenhagen. He said beer was about £5 a pint.He didn't stop moaning all night. Is this just Copenhagen or is Denmark just full of people who don't drink? Losers. Denmark isn't as expensive as Sweden and Norway. I am a man who likes to be on the end of 10-15 pints when I go out, but at £7-10 a pint in Sweden it was insane. Spent nearly a £1000 in 4 days. Lovely country though, tempted to move there if I can blag a job that can pay for my habits. There was a big problem with alcohol abuse in Sweden back in the 60's and 70's, which I am led to believe is the reason why drinks are now so expensive in Scandanavia.
The People's Hero Posted 1 December 2008 Posted 1 December 2008 My mate Rob is in trouble with his employer for rinsing his expenses account out there.
Ric Flair Posted 1 December 2008 Posted 1 December 2008 My mate Rob is in trouble with his employer for rinsing his expenses account out there. Haha, yeah, it's not the sort of country you can try and hide a few schneid beers on the company credit card.
The People's Hero Posted 1 December 2008 Posted 1 December 2008 Haha, yeah, it's not the sort of country you can try and hide a few schneid beers on the company credit card. I was out drinking last night with Rob. Rob is a drinker. It was my birthday I sort of had an excuse. For him, it's ANY excuse. I got in to the pub at 7.30 pm. Evidently I wasn't back seriously late as I was posting on here (fairly coherently too). But Rob has just text me and congratulated me on 12 pints in 3 hours. Apparently we religiously stuck to the pint every 15 minutes rule, whether you'd finished the last one or not. I actually feel ok this morning. DOOOOOOM BAR!

The People's Hero Posted 1 December 2008 Posted 1 December 2008 I like the sound of Rob. When I was late to the pub a few weeks ago (I was only meeting Rob), I was half hour late and got to the pub to order and was told I had THREE pints in. I can understand buying someone a beer in the wood if they haven't finished their pint or have nipped outside for a fag or whatever, but I hadn't even turned up yet. He drinks at a prolific rate. Also, he drinks lager, I'm not sure how he does it. Too fizzy. Rob is a good man.

It unsettles the bar staff and the general public. Get Rob on here.

Rob always pisses the bar staff off (point in case being last night) by getting about 3 rounds in at last orders. In fact, thinking about it, I'm almost certain he buys about 3 rounds to everyone else's 1.

What's the average wage out there?
Lillehamring Posted 1 December 2008 Posted 1 December 2008 What's the average wage out there? hard to say - technically there is no state minimum wage, although certain industries have their own standards, ie construction - according to one source, for example (and this is the lowest standard i have seen), for an unskilled, seasonal agricultural worker (fruit picker, perhaps, or farm hand) the minimum wage is about £10 an hour, a basic retail job (sales assistant) is between £12-15 an hour... but the tax is quite high even at the base level, but there are a few twists even there, like half tax in november, which is nice for xmas shopping, and all kinds of rebates... it is possible to live in luxury here even with a normal sort of job, depending on where you live, cars, holiday requirements etc. but it sucks big-wind if you're a tourist, which does however help keep a lot of the plebs out...
Babylon Posted 1 December 2008 Posted 1 December 2008 One bottle of Bud and a vodka and coke was $35 (£23.56) in the Lavo nightclub in vegas!!!!

Bottle table service in the VIP section of Mansion nightclub in Miami was $600 for a bottle of vodka + extras for mixers. Total tab for the night was $1459 dollars between 4 of us

The price of booze and food is really the only thing that is stopping me from doing a stint in Sweden. The contrast of cold winters and quite warm summers makes the country absolutely stunning all year round.

Ummmmmm. I can well understand how happy you are - but then I've met your other half. :D I did a squash coaching stint in Gothenburg - and while the place IS stunning - they really didn't encourage drinking. I'm not sure they actually hung people for drink-driving but the impression I got was that it was considered a worse offence, socially, than murder. And if the price of a drink in the cheaper places was anything to go by I reckon I could have bought a house in Stoke-on-Trent cheaper than an evening's drinking in the more expensive watering holes of Sweden.
Alexikokopops Posted 4 December 2008 Posted 4 December 2008 I drunkenly wandered into one of them Aberdeen Angus steak places that are every 2 yards in London. Came out £32 lighter. We were planning to go to nice cheap KFC as well. Fucks sake.

Mate, to be honest I am seriously considering it. How easy is it to get a job out there? I am quite open to moving to Norway instead of Sweden if the money is better. Know of any decent websites for Foreigners who are looking to move there etc? Is the food any good in there?Every single one we walked past seemed to be full last weekend. I've had a couple of meals in them before in London, a bit hit and miss. Was plastered when I went in the one in Brighton, fell off my chair and took my steak and bernaisse with me.
James. Posted 4 December 2008 Posted 4 December 2008 Seemed alright. Bloody expensive though. Rather go here Aberdeen steak houses are tourist traps. Nothing more, nothing less. Overpriced nonsense. If you want proper steak in London go to one of these: Gaucho Buen Ayre Popeseye

Hence I ended up finding a link to El Gaucho instead. We're planning to go there with my Argentinian friend, he misses his beef.
