Monk Posted 1 December 2008 Posted 1 December 2008 Today VAT has gone down by 2.5%. For some reason several of my 'friends' on Facebook have put in their status that they are pleased that things will be 2.5% cheaper. The standard of education these days is shocking! The actual reduction is 2.13%... if something cost £117.50 before and it now costs £115, you might have noticed that is not 2.5%. Idiots.
Head Honcho Posted 1 December 2008 Posted 1 December 2008 It's a penny off a Mars bar that's all we need to know
The Stig Posted 1 December 2008 Posted 1 December 2008 For me personally, it's not going to change how much I spend. I honestly can't see it helping in any way.
Jon the Hat Posted 1 December 2008 Posted 1 December 2008 For me personally, it's not going to change how much I spend. I honestly can't see it helping in any way. You would be well advised to spend less as a result rather than more, you will after all be paying back the amount everyone else who does spend saves in increased National Insurance in a few years.
Bellend Sebastian Posted 1 December 2008 Posted 1 December 2008 Isn't it funny that when it went up, people went mental, and now it's gone down again, people aren't bothered. It's almost as if people only get excited about BAD NEWS

Bellend Sebastian Posted 1 December 2008 Posted 1 December 2008 I'm constantly adding value to people's lives, and no one has to pay a penny on it. There's reason for celebration. Errm...

Apparently, in a ministerial official document in <some country I will not disclose at this time>, someone worked out that 1/2 + 1/3 = 1/5 [so perhaps it is true that they do not cook the books, they just have no clue what they are doing!]

But it is 2.5% of the original price before VAT was added, so they're technically right (in a way)

SamL Posted 1 December 2008 Posted 1 December 2008 Personally, I don't think it'll affect the average consumer. It'll mostly help businesses who tend to buy things in bulk, which is where the main discounts will be found.
The People's Hero Posted 1 December 2008 Posted 1 December 2008 Well, there was this movie I seen one time.
Lillehamring Posted 1 December 2008 Posted 1 December 2008 dang, are you people deliberately making me feel ripped off - i bought a plant the other day and the VAT was 28%
Trav Le Bleu Posted 1 December 2008 Posted 1 December 2008 Well, there was this movie I seen one time. I also saw a movie one time... coincidence? <_<
The People's Hero Posted 1 December 2008 Posted 1 December 2008 I also saw a movie one time... coincidence? <_< Did it star Gregory Peck?
Alexikokopops Posted 1 December 2008 Posted 1 December 2008 Did it star Gregory Peck? Possibly the manliest name in Hollywood.

Most businesses won't make any savings as they are registered for VAT and claim it all back.
Trav Le Bleu Posted 1 December 2008 Posted 1 December 2008 Did it star Gregory Peck? Something about a large white dick as I recall.
Jon the Hat Posted 1 December 2008 Posted 1 December 2008 Isn't it funny that when it went up, people went mental, and now it's gone down again, people aren't bothered. It's almost as if people only get excited about BAD NEWS People are not bothered becuase this is pointless when so many retailers are already offering big discounts to tempt shoppers. Also people are aware fo the future tax rises which they are going to have to pay for the cut now.
The People's Hero Posted 1 December 2008 Posted 1 December 2008 Possibly the manliest name in Hollywood. Not as manly as our cocktails.
Alexikokopops Posted 1 December 2008 Posted 1 December 2008 Not as manly as our cocktails. I'd post a picture here if I could
DB11 Posted 1 December 2008 Posted 1 December 2008 Apparently, in a ministerial official document in <some country I will not disclose at this time>, someone worked out that 1/2 + 1/3 = 1/5 Doesn't it equal 5/6?
The People's Hero Posted 1 December 2008 Posted 1 December 2008 I'd post a picture here if I could Our time will come Alex, our time will come. ps why can't you?
