Howard 'happy to do dirty work'

Howard has scored four goals for the Foxes this season

Leicester City striker Steve Howard has said he is happy to do the ground work as Matty Fryatt adds to his goal tally.

Fryatt hit a hat-trick in the Foxes' 3-2 FA Cup win over Dagenham and Redbridge to take his total to 19 for the season.

Howard told BBC Radio Leicester: "He's on fire and I hope he continues that way, so I'll try and do the dirty work and let him stick the goals in.

"When confidence is going through you like that you can do anything."

Howard added: "I think he'll go from strength to strength.

"He's got a fantastic touch and eye for a goal and I hope he keeps doing that."

Leicester are one point ahead of MK Dons at the top of League One and entertain Southend United on Saturday.

wished he score some more though

Howard does fcuk all accept scare defenders and head the ball down.

If you never go to a game and just listen to radio ;eicester you probably think he is superman. We need a target man in this league but he is finished.

Howard generally occupies 2 defenders at a time leaving Fryatt with so much space, If it weren't for Howard's presence Fryatt would not of scored as many this season.

Also I get the feeling that as soon as Howard gets a goal he'll get a shit load

the same people that are slating Howard will be the people that praise Heskey and defend him to fans of other clubs they do the same role, it's just Heskey has much more pace

People that knock Howard all the time need to really have a word with themselves.

No, he's not got as many goals as we or he'd like. Has he played the majority of games this season? Yes.

How have the team done performance & results wise in this period? On the whole - very well.

How well have our other attacking players done with regards to goals playing around Howard? Fryatt - 19, Dyer, King and Oakley all getting a fair few too.

Football is a team game, not an individual sport. You need 11 players doing their individual jobs to make a good team. The team is top of the league and Howard has been an almost ever present.

Get the off his back and learn the game of football before you go off and start criticising.

no, fundamentally they are doing the same thing, and helping the others in their side score

Of course he wants to score goals, every striker does, but he's not at the moment, yet he is still contributing. On Saturday he won every header, and sent two fabulous passes to Adams which sent us on the attack.

We have a very effective front pairing.

I'm not a Howard hater, I understand he's going to score less goals in his role. I understand he's going to play an important part in the style of football we play, that he has a good pedigree in the lower divisions and that he's had some quality moments this season.

But to watch him is so immensely infuriating at times I can understand why people get fed up of him. He's immensely lazy and there has to be a point where age/speed/fitness isn't an excuse any more, it's just being bone idle. He doesn't read a game of football particularly, doesn't have the most amazing positioning sense and frequently looks largely disinterested in the game.

I want to like Steve Howard, I do. And I concede I've seen no way near as many games this year as some of the rest of you, but he doesn't make things easy for himself.

I find it hard to see any connection between Fryatt and Heskey but had the comparison been made between Howard and Heskey I'd have been more sympathetic.

No Howard isn't Heskey without the pace but he does serve a similar purpose in that, even when he's not scoring, he takes weight off people because he's got to be marked.

I think his goals return is disappointing but he's not had the best of luck from referees and the team have still been scoring at roughly the rate I hoped.

City are top of the League and, as a virtual ever present, Howard has made a fair contribution to our success. For me, Fryatt has benefitted big time from his presence and King too.

There is nothing wrong with City having an alternative option like DJ, Dickov or Chambers but Howard has done his job of holding the ball up, linking play and occupying defenders.

Every Word Spot On!!!! For me Howard isnt a fraction his former self when he was at D***y whilst still playing the same role here as he was there i dont see why he carnt still get goals.Just watch him play if you think hes the Hero Radio Leicester make him out to be.Even Tony Thorpe was criticising his performance against Daggs.

Ah soon people will stop defending him :frusty:

Ild Rather see an unattached Darren Huckerby upthere with Fryatt been smashing it in the MLS and still only 32(n a lil bit crocked)

Very well summed up Sir.

He does much more than that...I know for a fact many teams in our division would take Howard on board because hes a good player to have in your team...hes willing to fight for the ball etc and is a strong targetman...many people dont realise that if it wern't for Howard, Fryatt wouldnt of scored anywhere near as many as he has now.

Been wondering where all your Steve Howard Sigs had gone....Seen the light dave??

Nope, just fancied a change :D

I still stand by my Stevie. :P

I think Howard has played well this season, wins most of the headers up front as well as when defending corners, set pieces etc. But what frustrates me is the way we play when he is up front.

We are more prone to playing long balls, and when he wins the headers it isn't really dangerous, whereas if we played the ball on the floor we would look more like scoring. Fryatt has to be near Howard when Howard wins the header to have any chance of getting the ball and as a result there normally have 3 defending around them who easily deal with it. If the ball is played on the floor and Fryatt had Dj or Chambers up front with him, it draws defenders away from each other as there is more movment and space between the 2 strikers and i think we would be more of a threat.

Thrac I think its fairly obvious I meant Howard and simply made a mistake whilst typing

Well said 'bo.

Don't forget how many goals Howard has had ruled out, 6 i think, at least 5 of them deemed harsh.

I believe that one of the main reasons people get on Howards back, is because he has a good goalscoring record wherever else he's played, and he just can't seem to do it for us. He still plays a very important role for us as many people have stated.

Also, player most harshly treated by refs? I think so.

Always the way with players of his style, though.

Big John Hartson used to get butchered by defenders and refs in unison.

Well said.. :thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:

It's not entirely a coincidence that our best performance in the last two months has come in a game in which Howard wasn't playing.

Probably no coincidence either that we're top of the league and he's been almost ever present.
