Joe. Posted 12 December 2008 Posted 12 December 2008 Anybody can learn guitar if they put the practice in. Naturally that's the only advice I can give - put the hours in and you'll benefit quickly! Currently learning Embryonic Journey. Bit of a bitch in some parts.
Munzie Posted 13 December 2008 Posted 13 December 2008 My housemates gone away for the week and left me with his Gibson Les Paul I may have to tell him its been stolen and keep it. The holy of all axes Don't scratch it
Libertine Posted 13 December 2008 Posted 13 December 2008 The holy of all axes Don't scratch it They're alright.
Munzie Posted 13 December 2008 Posted 13 December 2008 They're alright. I would trade my wife for 1/2 hour on a Gibson Les Paul (especially in the cherry sunburst colour )
Sods Posted 13 December 2008 Posted 13 December 2008 Im actually pretty damn awesome at acoustic. Great party trick at a house party, get the guitar out and play some tunes. Drunk people love it.
Daggers Posted 13 December 2008 Posted 13 December 2008 Does anyone not play guitar? Everyone plays guitar. Does anyone play sax?
Libertine Posted 13 December 2008 Posted 13 December 2008 Does anyone not play guitar? Everyone plays guitar.Does anyone play sax? Exactly. Bass is where it's at.
Jay Posted 13 December 2008 Posted 13 December 2008 I used to play drums in my youth but they are so noisy anyone within a 2mile radius can hear you when you practice, got rid for beer money when I was at college big regret never followed it through. As for Guitar I am actually thinking of giving it a go in the new year from the acoustic side of things looking around for instructors at the minute. Kind of think what the hell lets give it a go
Asha Posted 25 February 2009 Posted 25 February 2009 Have always wanted to be able to play my acoustic guitar...but never really took it seriously. I've just had a little go and I know *some of* the chords, it just takes me about 3/4 seconds to switch from one to another, which is obviously way too long.

Tabs are your friend
Lillehamring Posted 25 February 2009 Posted 25 February 2009 Tabs are your friend ...or muscle memory
Libertine Posted 25 February 2009 Posted 25 February 2009 ...or muscle memory Exactly. Tabs are irrelevant to chord changing. And Nussul, I doubt you know all the chords. There aren't many people in the world who do. ;P
Lillehamring Posted 25 February 2009 Posted 25 February 2009 Exactly. Tabs are irrelevant to chord changing. And Nussul, I doubt you know all the chords. There aren't many people in the world who do. ;P well, if you learn all the combinations as a barre chord, all you need to do is transpose the barre - i think i could play pretty much any chord on a piano (although i'd have to think about certain keys and some of the stupidly jazzy chords....) but diminished and semi-deminished chords are tricky on the guitar, there is a slidable diminished chord but i can never work out which fret is which key... on the piano it's just like maths, you remember the pattern or the formula, ie a m6 chord is just 1,m3,5,6 notes in the scale whether it is c or g# - god damn, now i want to go play piano
Asha Posted 25 February 2009 Posted 25 February 2009 All the chords I need then. Sorr.eee. A, C, D, E, F, G, Em and Am is what I know.
Mark Posted 25 February 2009 Posted 25 February 2009 Have always wanted to be able to play my acoustic guitar...but never really took it seriously.I've just had a little go and I know all the chords, it just takes me about 3/4 seconds to switch from one to another, which is obviously way too long. You know ALL the chords? A D E F G Am Em practice those for a few days you'll move to them without thinking and progress onto others (and barre chords) from there.
Asha Posted 25 February 2009 Posted 25 February 2009 You know ALL the chords? A D E F G Am Em practice those for a few days you'll move to them without thinking and progress onto others (and barre chords) from there. Just them (and C). I meant all the ones I need. Not worth editing my original post now everyone's quoted it.
Mark Posted 25 February 2009 Posted 25 February 2009 Just them (and C). I meant all the ones I need. Not worth editing my original post now everyone's quoted it. Do that and some fairly straight forward scales as well.

Joe. Posted 25 February 2009 Posted 25 February 2009 Exactly. Bass is where it's at. Bass player = failed guitarist. Fact.
