Darkzzz_ Posted 28 December 2008 Posted 28 December 2008 I don't see the point in people slagging off the SPL saying it is a pointless league, if you don't like it just ignore it. Unless you live in Scotland, the SPL doesn't get much media coverage (unless you go looking for it). I don't really take much notice of the SPL but I'd never wish it to be finished/abolished. I would never wish for this either. As Tevez says, I would love to see a small team go on and make a stand in the SPL. Like I said earlier it would be great for the SPL.
Jay Posted 28 December 2008 Posted 28 December 2008 yes but if you tracked the top 4 over all those seasons it'd only be that past couple of years it was the same clubs all the time, remember back in the mid 90's although Man Utd tended to win the league it was nearly always a 2,3 or 4 horse race with different clubs finishing second every year or maybe 10!! since 95-96 the only difference was that Newcastle finished runners up twice so really for the past 10 years it has been exactly the same top 4 except was it once when Everton finished 4th and that's about it!! my point is that the Premier League is almost as predictable as the SPL and any league where the top 4 is the same every year and you can pretty much name 2 of the bottom 3 is pretty boring stuff and it those terms is really no different to the SPL
purpleronnie Posted 28 December 2008 Posted 28 December 2008 I know from living in europe and the states that celtic and rangers have massive support that rivals the big 4 in the EPL, They are huge in world terms its just a pity they are in a small country with an average league. I would love to see them in the prem but I cant see it ever happening but if it did police costs would go through the roof.

I like the SPL and love Celtic and Celtic and Rangers are doing fine where they are. They have won European trophies from the SPL and Rangers went all the way to the UEFA Cup final last season. It maybe a boring league but I would rather they stay north of the boarder. Having Rangers and Celtic in the F.A Cup would ruin the cup for me.
Guest Posted 28 December 2008 Posted 28 December 2008 Having the Old Firm in the EPL takes the piss out of any club that is in the Championship, even Leagues 1 & 2. To suggest otherwise would incur my wrath.
Finnegan Posted 28 December 2008 Posted 28 December 2008 Having the Old Firm in the EPL takes the piss out of any club that is in the Championship, even Leagues 1 & 2. To suggest otherwise would incur my wrath. Totally. But money talks and if it ever happens that's why it'll happen.
Father Ted Posted 28 December 2008 Posted 28 December 2008 How people can slag off the SPL and least Celtic and Rangers have made decent efforts in European Competitions also when your mid table teams wouldn't win the SPL. Not like the Taffs or the Paddys (Northern and Republic) who can't win a game in Europe for love nor money. It's not exactly a "pointless" ( ) as some might say. At least the Aberdeens, Motherwells and Hearts give it a good go and do well in competitions aswell as Leagues. Imagine how good it would be to follow Queen on the South or Gretna in the UEFA Cup, Imagine the buzz Annan Athletic got their first taste of League Status, Imagine East Stirling going up a division (which is likely) after years of being the worst club in Scotland. Imagine Aberdeen getting a draw at Bayern Munich. (With Alan Maybury) Also a Hamilton Academicals midfielder who is being linked with Barcelona, unreal hey?It might be smaller leagues but there certainly better entertainment than the English Leagues bar Premiership and maybe Championship. What's the Hamilton players name?
poynton blue Posted 29 December 2008 Posted 29 December 2008 Too busy doing the hokey cokey to realise the score
The Blur Posted 29 December 2008 Posted 29 December 2008 James McCarthy Signed him for FM09! Injured though at moment so haven't a chance to assess how good he is
ASH17LCFC Posted 30 December 2008 Posted 30 December 2008 What a bunch of morons some people on here are, Celtic and Rangers wouldn't be in the top 8 let alone the top 4 ! The SPL is the biggest Micky Mouse league in the world and the standard is awful. Just proves when Muppets like Maybury,Hughes,MDV and Levein can all be great in that dog turd of a league. Celtic main man is a person who couldn't get in a crap Man City side

Tit.

ASH17LCFC Posted 30 December 2008 Posted 30 December 2008 Yes because they wouldn't bother to replace any of their players would they?Tit. Yeah because they're loaded. Have millions of fans. Don't like Boca and Flamego have huge fan bases ? Just because your got a million glory supporters don't mean you're gonna win anything. What have Celtic or Rangers won in europe in the last 25 - 30 years ? I think Aberdeen where the last Scots club to win something in europe in 83 ? Micky Mouse wears a SPL watch you know ?

Add Celtic and Rangers reputation and fanbase and ticket/merchandise sales, all enhanced by being in the EPL to Premier League money in itself and what they already earn from the Champions League and you've got a heck of a lot of money... if a team like Middlesborough can spend £8m or whatever it was on a striker think what they could do.
Uncle Albert Posted 30 December 2008 Posted 30 December 2008 I never got into his trousers mate so i wouldn't know Well you werent in Disney Land Florida 1999 were you? What a holiday that was.
ASH17LCFC Posted 30 December 2008 Posted 30 December 2008 Well you werent in Disney Land Florida 1999 were you? What a holiday that was. I've never been, was never a Disney kinda person but sounds lovely. I might pop in one day and see what the fuss is all about.
Uncle Albert Posted 30 December 2008 Posted 30 December 2008 I've never been, was never a Disney kinda person but sounds lovely.I might pop in one day and see what the fuss is all about. You are far to old to get there now. Actually, you may be to old to go but your mental age will justify it so you will be fine pal. Aido McGeady is far to good for the SPL.

Why are you so madly sticking up for the SPL ? Does it help you sleep or something ? My opinion on my own judgement is that Rangers or Celtic or any other SPL side are rubbish and the whole league is boring with 2 teams only ever gonna win it with the football being about as good as league 1 or 2.

Now he's back captaining Rangers
