Palace Post Match

ok, i didn't go to the game and so therefore i am not allowed to have opinion on anything the commentators have said about it, however this is foxes talk so i am free to comment on everybody else's opinion on it

so here is my post-match-match-review-review.....

1. Thrac starts off with his take on the game based on what he's heard, and immediately someone wades into insult him with the usual tedious crap, whilst failing to address anything he has said, which, as it will turn out is more or less the same as most people have said minus the off-topic indulgent praise of a city player

2. to which thrac counters with a fine retort which makes sir alex's dreary whining look even more pointless

3. mark then sensationally appears to back up thracian's opinion, but spoils it buy admitting he didn't go to the game :o - oddly no one points this out, tells him not to post, or calls him a tit

4. in response to mark's observation about strikers, sir alex proves how hoplessly out of his depth he is by suggesting:

completely forgetting that we are currently unbeaten in many many games and have a new manager and an almost completely new midfield and defence. fryatt, last year, pretty crap too if memory serves.....

5. finally some sense is restored by the ever reliable abdul-jabbar, who seemed to mirror the game as i heard it online, we certainly seemed to have control of the midfield, tho i would add that the lack of firepower up front is clearly something that debilitated us today. tho we may have played three up front, with respect to king and davies, they aren't exactly out-and-out strikers, scoring from midfield is a different thing than from up front

6. sadly, it all got a bit sidetracked again when AOWW seemed to miss the point:

- thrac isn't out to wind people up, he's just massively out-spoken and says what he thinks, regardless of whether it is the right time or place... it is the people who think it 's clever to have a dig at him or those that can't resist taking the bait that blow it all out of proportion... speaking of which...

7. far too seriously taken, yet oddly childish at the same time...

....um, like Andy King you mean....

8. but as ever, a thread is not complete without a final thought from daggers, and to pull this thread completely full circle, he agrees with thrac, porter maybe isn't a bad player, and could be worth a shot, sounds like he has plenty to prove at the very least...

i dunno daggers, maybe you should ask sir alex

FYI - this is all :P , don't get upset people

That was a great laugh. But where's Thracian when you need him? :giggle:

Valerenga - keep that level up. It suits you.

Today was a reality check. Many of the problems from last season will still need to be addressed if and when we return to the Championship.

Although the defence was solid enough, without Oakley and Fryatt we were seriously deficient in both creativity and firepower. Howard once again showed that he can't cut it at Championship level, while Dickov's contribution was again minimal and raised the question of how much longer the club can allow him to live off past glories. Neither King nor Dyer were particularly effective against a higher standard of opposition than they'll have been used to in recent weeks.

Gradel worked hard without looking any great threat. Davies gave another industrious display which shows why he should be signed on a permanent basis sooner rather than later.

Not for the first time in recent seasons, a dire match was redeemed by excellent sessions in the pub both beforehand and afterwards. Special thanks to all the Foxestalk glitterati who met up in the Swan and Rushes before the game and ended up on the post-match crawl.:beer:

whilst what you say here about the game tallies with most other reports, do you not think that it is slightly unfair to apply the assessment to a whole season - i get the feeling that players like king and dyer would perhaps raise their game, develop when exposed to a higher standard week in week out :dunno:

:D

I hope someone else reads that full post in its entirity, that was very good.

Thracian's still chuckling! :D
Indeed. :giggle:

Clearly, the Thracian bashing reached fever pitch from some quarters on here.

I read his posts with great interest after every game, not once have they been wide of the mark, they are lucid and very much the way I have seen the game. I rely on his reports when I can't get to the game, I feel they will be indicative of the actual game, not like others on here, who seem to watch one player all game and let the others' industry go by unnoticed.

Kudos to Valengra for actually pointing out the flaws in the obvious Thracian bashing by the pack.

The ballboy with the skills is actually my nephew, Shay, he will be most pleased with his newly accuired adulation from the Foxestalk faitfhul.

I did and had a laugh but it did have some sense to it. But only getting to listen to the commentary i don't know how people can comment on individual performences

of course they can't, but equally i've been to enough matches to know that it's impossible to fairly comment on every players performance even if you go - oddly enough thrac is the only person i know who takes notes at a game, so when he does go he is usually spot on...

also, i think people who go to every game don't realise how much better ian stringer is for actually telling what has happened - with barber, as you know roo, you'd listen to the match and form an opinion and then people would post on here and it would be totally different. it is rare now to get much contradiction between commentary and punters-

...anyway, it was just a bit of a laugh - sometimes things seem a lot better than they actually are when you just have the highlights

Bugger! I think that was our chance to get the win and will be lucky to get anything out of the replay. How I'm gonna negotiate the time off is another matter...

I wouldn't bother. The reality is there is no replay, it is not happening. One of the teams will mysteriously bow out of the competition, and normal service will resume.

I would like to apologise to Nussul; I hope he wasn't scared. It wasn't me, it was the hot cherry beer that did it.

The day I worry that Crystal Palace have a vastly superiour side to Leicester will be an awfully sad day! It has not come yet in my lifetime and I expect the players will put on a performance at Selhurst & I will be there to see it, bring on round 4 :fc:

I have learnt over time the home FA cup games are a waste of time unless we are playing a decent Prem side. Away will be a different matter like Fulham was

I'd hope so, though Dyer in particular has gone off the boil in recent weeks.

King was given little space on the ball, which limited his impact. Yesterday showed what he could expect on a regular basis at Championship level, especially in home games.

I also feel that Pearson's decision to opt for 4-5-1 played into Wazzock's hands. I'm not sure the players were comfortable with that formation.

I feel that Big Nige realised what London Midweek cup games mean to the fans and played for the right result & got it

That beer is properly awesome.

Hot cherry beer is plain stupid, Pearson's 4-5-1 is a more attractive proposition.

Actually, 4-5-1 was the best we could have done yesterday seeing as we didn't have any other player worth throwing alongside Howard. What on Earth is going on with Dyer though? Pearson needs to boot him in the arse - I fancy playing Gradel on the left flank next match and giving him a breather.

ha, just watched the howard 'miss' - dreadful, really dreadful - at best tired legs, hopefully NP will give him a rest soon....

Nah I wasn't. Was nice to meet you anyway.

I don't think my old man understands the whole online thing and why several people called me Nussul, presuming everyone that recognizes me must be 'someone from school'. :giggle:
