Palace Post Match

The best part of today was that young ball boy who controlled the ball when it dropped out of the sky. He must have got the biggest cheer of the day.

That was sheer quality. First touch, absolute first class.

Take a bow, son.

I really love, how you are always telling me what I would say and how I would feel. If you are going to argue at least use things I HAVE actually said. Rather than making things up "I would say" to suit your argument.

Dyer has proved himself, whilst King has proved himself effective going forward. Porter on the other hand has never done a sodding thing consistently (except being mentioned in your posts), a bit like your last over hyped champion Sheehan. Once again you are turning people against a player, just like you did with Sheehan.

If Mr Pearson ever wanted to play Porter, that would have been fine with me and I would hope the lad did well. It's getting to the point though that i'd rather him be released in this window to stop you banging on about him. The problem is you'd just move onto Beswick, telling anyone who'll listen that things would be just so different if he was playing.

Quite cleaver really. Every season you pick a player who is quite clearly not going to get a look in. You go on and on and on about them, making them out to be some footballing genius. Who, if played... would turn us into an unstoppable force. Knowing full well, the chances are you will never be proved wrong because they aren't likely to get a kick.

Keeps you in your little position of looking like you know best, because you never put yourself in a position to be proved wrong. If the person you're championing leaves and fails miserably (which they mostly do), you just blame the clubs coaches for wrecking them. GENIUS!!

As AOOWW says, you love winding people up. Sad really.

You talk about making things up but who have I championed who has left the club and failed?

Sheehan? He played in most every game that lifted Leeds into the play-off finals last season then was left out of the final which they lost.

He's returned to the side this season and seems to be fairly well regarded.

With us I said we'd miss his dead ball kicks and assists which we did. We got relegated with barely another goal resulting from action down the left flank.

Stearman? People grumbled about him no end during parts of his first team career and totally ridiculed the idea - voiced by myself and at least one other - that he might do well in his preferred position of centre-half.

He looks now to be helping Wolves to the Premiership playing at centre-half.

Who else? Gradel. Yes I wanted him used last season before we started our journey to relegation and he has been used, albeit sparingly this season. We are top of the League, he is top of the assists table and we haven't seen anything like the the best of him. Yes, I feel guilty about that.

You might, I suppose, mention Louis Dodds but all I ever asked for him was that he be given a chance instead of loanees 's like Horsfield and off the car park signings like Cademarteri. Neither of those did any good at all and Dodds has at least been virtually ever present for both Lincoln and Port Vale since his move, scoring quite regularly from midfield.

Then there was King being left out of our ailing side, of course...

And the views that Magunda was lucky to get a contract and that Kaebi, Ferreira, Djiziri, Laczko would prove a waste of space.

There was nothing ambiguous or inconsistent about all those comments. They expressed opinions which, to my mind, have been fairly well justified over time.

So no Babs. I don't feel guilty about anyone I've mentioned or the reasons I've mentioned em.

And I still think Porter is a good player. And if he proves me wrong I'll be happy to admit it. But I seriously doubt that will be anything to do with his footballing ability.

As for your own record, am I wrong in recalling your fairly long-term support for managers like Levein, Kelly, Holloway as they took us into freefall? Or is my memory playing tricks?. In which case I wholeheartedly apologise.

Kick me all you like, pal, but don't try to pretend I load the dice. Not if you're so concerned about what was "actually" said.

My whole thrust since I've been on this forum has been to play any part I could in encouraging Leicester City to be a positive, attacking, fearless football club once again.

And after so many stuttering starts that were never going to work we are at long last on the top of a League again and scoring goals from the variety of positions I always said was necessary.

I'm pretty pleased about that.

But I am not very pleased with a 0-0 draw at home in a match where we suddenly reverted to type and became more concerned with what they did than what we did. And especially when the last thing we needed was a replay.

Poor poor game. I was quite surprised to see us start with 4-5-1 although I don't think we looked any better when we did revert to 4-4-2. We missed the quality that Oakley and Fryatt provide although defensively I thought we looked very sound.

In terms of a measure of how this side would cope at a higher level, I think it gave a good impression. Although we are not there yet, I believe we are only maybe three or four decent players short. Maybe a striker who could adequately provide cover for Fryatt, a left winger who could provide cover for Dyer and one or two players elsewhere and we would be ok.

It was a dull game today, Awful atmosphere.

One for the future, Thrac... lol

Palace were dreadful, I can't believe they are at the right end of the championship table after that show, We weren't exactly on fire but I felt we really could have won this today, We played ok for 60 odd minutes, we just didn't have anything to finish them off, they were more than happy to soak us up.

I was glad to see Nige rest a few of the players, my only slight criticism would be that he maybe should have changed it towards the end and added some extra fire power up front, I really hate replays, I would rather we went for it at the end and either nicked it or conceded in trying.

At least our name will be in the draw tomorrow. :)

The commentator was full of the kid...totally gobsmacked. I'd love to see it up on YouTube.

I sit in B2 lower, where the ballboy patrols that area of the touchline in front of me, near the home dug out

The ball came out of the Sky and he took it down with sublime control and passed it to the Palace left back

Two Palace subs were warming up right next to him, they said a few nice words to the kid and I lip read "You should be out there playing son!" from Calvin Andrew

Shit tactics by Pearson, we have won 8 home games in a row yet we didn't even play 4-4 fooking 2 from the start.

IMO we would have definately won it had we played 4-4-2 from the off.

'Cos we played fuckin' wicked when we reverted to 4-4-2.:rolleyes:

Sublime first touch.

The best piece of skill on show today was by that ball boy.

I see the Palace players smiling and saying something.

Highlight of my day.

PS: As for winding people up being "sad" this whole forum is about debate and some of it less than 100% serious.

My last new topic prompted over 140 replies and 1700 views in not very long. That is food and drink to this place just like a whole host of other topics started by other members.

I've just made a quick search for your latest topic but got fed up of drawing blanks. If you don't want to start em that's no problem at all. It's your choice. But don't knock those who do or who provoke response with their replies. Cos without such threads and such reaction this place would be a sodding graveyard.

Just read this on a Palace forum

" He did not play not only because of injury, but City are looking at the possible reality of selling him therefore meaning not playing him in the Cup, as teams will be less interested if he is Cup-tied. "

Would we give him a 3 year deal or whatever it is and then sell him :frusty:

An unnecessary tactical switch has left us with yet another unnecessary fixture.

We should have had them from the start. Getting at them like every other outfit we've seen at home this season.

From what's been said on here, Palace were a poor outfit, and yet I am not surprised. The Championship is a poor league, we are playing good football, and we go back to the negative play we used last season. The Championship is full of boring, defensive, uninspiring football and Palace fit the bill perfectly in that respect. So what do we do? Match them in exactly the same way.

We should have hammered them.

Warnock comes on the radio and jokes about us having more resources than them when questioned about whether he would be in for any of our players. You can joke all you like mate. You know you've been let off the hook.

Great potential picture story for the Mercury if they could track him down.

Even Better :chant:

"I think that we played well second half, and that we dominated overall. Credit to Leicester, they were very good on the counter attack, but were often offside.

I think we got lucky when Howard missed an easy chance, but apart from that, I think they were lucky to get a replay."

Mark - can we have a puppet-master emoticon, please? Or at least a wooden spoon?

Beat me to it.

lol

There now judging that were not going to stay up next season on todays game :giggle:

" Back from the game, nothing really intresting to report. Carle and Danns were our two best players, and at times if Carle had some movement going on around him we could of hurt Leicester, who don't look like they will sustain a Championship place when the inevitible happens, which is of course them getting promoted. Lots of voice from the fans which is always a bonus, Come on Palace! "

Well I didn't want a draw, and we shouldn't have had one- Howard had to bury his chance. Apart from that, we were good in the first half, backed off in the second as Palace came into the game more but I think, overall, the result was a fair one.

Not impressed by Palace at all, especially in the first half, so if that's a benchmark, it's not too bad.

Moment of the match: The ball-boy's fantastic control of that high clearance. Put some of the professionals to shame. Top marks to the lad

They closed us down a lot quicker than most of the other sides we've played this season.

Some of our more inexperienced players struggled to come to terms with the pace and consequently we didn't play as well as a team. Would have liked to have seen our best XI out there, but obviously the priority lies with the league.

Shame about the draw, but Selhurst Park makes up for it bigtime.
