Uncle Albert Posted 4 January 2009 Posted 4 January 2009 Lets go for Viduka so i can Jizz my pants What about Aloisi?
SOCCERROO FOX Posted 4 January 2009 Posted 4 January 2009 What about Aloisi? He would be easy to get as he can't get a start for Sydney fc at the moment and is on about a $1mil a year
bluebeau Posted 4 January 2009 Posted 4 January 2009 Yes but the point is that he hasnt got a bad injury. In my opinion i think that in this division Dickov + Campbell are decent enough cover for Fryatt. Big Nige is doing a fantastic job, all of his signings are quality, but I think Dickov is past his sell by date. I am just stating my opinion & not trying to do Niges job for him, but I would like to see him try & off load Dickov & DJ, neither of them are doing it for city, & I would put in a bid for Lee Hughes of Oldham. Proven goal scorer & could play alongside Fryatt or Howard. NP best manager since Martin O'God, so whatever he does will be OK with me.

Flynny Posted 4 January 2009 Posted 4 January 2009 On yesterday's evidence, Christ is right. Along with others, Howard was out of his depth against Championship opposition. Pearson will have to get rid in the summer, if not sooner. Won nearly all his headers and didn't have his flick-ons read properly. I'd have subbed him off because our gameplan wasn't effective, but he wasn't out of his depth in the slightest.

Lillehamring Posted 4 January 2009 Posted 4 January 2009 have you forgot he scored at Old Trafford last season. why would he get rid of a striker who is already proven at championship level? ... <_< yeah, but that was a few years back, at the peak of his game, would he cut it next season, he's not getting any younger... nothing against the bloke, but if we want to be contenders in the championship, we'll need someone who does what howard does AND can score goals, but it's early days, lets see how we fair for the rest of the year, maybe he'll get his goalscoring confidence back
Ultra Posted 4 January 2009 Posted 4 January 2009 have you forgot he scored at Old Trafford last season. In the 90s, Colin Hill, Mike Whitlow and Neil Lennon all scored for us at Old Trafford. It didn't mean any of them were prolific goalscorers.
Kilworthfox Posted 4 January 2009 Posted 4 January 2009 I would like David Connolly back, he was really good! I feel that he is twice the player Fryatt (yes that one, the messiah) is. He is not getting games at Scumderland..... Discuss

Discuss isn't he suffering from a long term groin injury that threatens his career at the minute?
Ultra Posted 4 January 2009 Posted 4 January 2009 It's strange that despite being out of the Sunderland side for nearly two seasons, he hasn't been sent out on loan. Maybe he has an injury, or some issues that are being kept quiet. EDIT - just found this story (dated 4 November 2008) from the Sunderland website. David Connolly has undergone a second operation as he looks to recover from a groin injury. The Republic of Ireland international had the latest surgery in Germany last week. Connolly has also had an operation on a hip injury since he last played for Sunderland, against Wigan in the FA Cup last January. Roy Keane, Sunderland's manager, confirmed: "David has had another operation and hopefully it will lead to the end of his problems. He's been out for some time but we're hopeful he will be able to resume his career now." Connolly, 31, is in the last of a three-year contract at the Stadium of Light.

IF! he was fit I would like to see him back here, he is out of contract in June.

Howard is a limited player. If you play gto his strengths he performs well, if you are asking him to chase, harry, and be anything other than a target man then his limitations are for all to see.
Ultra Posted 4 January 2009 Posted 4 January 2009 It would be a gamble to sign a 32-year-old who hadn't played any meaningful games in the last two years. And I'd hate to see Connolly live off (and tarnish) past glories in the way Paul Dickov is currently doing.

Agreed, the last thing we need is another passenger,Dickov has gone,he's not even a nuisance to defenders anymore!
Sniffer-Clarke Posted 4 January 2009 Posted 4 January 2009 I must admit i wasn't a Howard fan at the beginning of the season, but having been to most of the games home and away, he offers soo much to the team. He wins most of the headers when we are attacking and also if we are defending a corner or set piece he seems to win the ball over Tuchev, Morrison and Hobbs most of the time. He gets alot of knocks and fouls and just gets on with it.A man in the row behind me today kept taking the mick out of Howard and this was near the home bench so they must've heard him, it was embarassing, i still dont understand the criticism he recieves, it is becoming more and more annoying. That said at some point i would like to see Fryatt up front with DJ or Chambers to see what they can do, and attack defences with pace for a change. I think we have afew decent strikers as back ups but they need to get more of a chance to prove themselves. We are not arguing with the contribution of what SH gives to the team we are talking about WHERE the goals are going to come from if MF was to get a nasty injury, we have seen from last season that MF can be a bit injury prone.

Ultra Posted 4 January 2009 Posted 4 January 2009 17 goals in 49 games isn't a bad scoring record - especially in a side as crap as we were at that time. Without Connolly. we'd have been relegated earlier than we were.
Jimmy Posted 4 January 2009 Posted 4 January 2009 yes he was decent enough but he was hardly a big star (ala Claridge) and his sale provided the money for the Hume deal and eventually the Fryatt deal so I think we did quite well out of it

Added to the fact we didn't play to his main strength- ball into feet. No, we hoofed it for him to either win in the air (not going to do) or hit it long for him to chase down (not going to do either). His goalscoring record, when you look at it and consider our style of play, was very respectable.
Big Ol' Bob Posted 4 January 2009 Posted 4 January 2009 Much rather see a youngster come on loan such as Freddie Sears, Sherjill MacDonald or even try getting Danny Welbeck.
Jimmy Posted 4 January 2009 Posted 4 January 2009 no chance of getting Welbeck there would be a long queue of Championship clubs that would take him
