And Connolly seems like he would be a liability, injury-wise, at the moment. Delete this topic ! Why?? Freedom of speech means that people can discuss what they like, and not just topics you deem discuss-worthy.

Why do people still seem to think we could attract these types of players, they may only be on the fringes of top flight clubs, e.t.c, but why would they come here when many better and higher league clubs are interested and are struggling to get them? Oh , because we are a big club and should be in the Premiership, not forgetting at top class attendance figures?

Sherjill MacDonald is 24 - hardly a youngster in my book. We have enough strikers from our own academy without having to raid anyone else's.

dandannieldanok Posted 4 January 2009 Posted 4 January 2009 yeah, but that was a few years back, at the peak of his game, would he cut it next season, he's not getting any younger...nothing against the bloke, but if we want to be contenders in the championship, we'll need someone who does what howard does AND can score goals, but it's early days, lets see how we fair for the rest of the year, maybe he'll get his goalscoring confidence back Agreed, Howard was excellent for Derby in the championship but as he proved last season for us he's completely lost his consistency at that level. I'm not talking goals either, his general play in the championship with us was terrible whereas this season his general play has been very good. If we do get promoted, then I'll be disappointed and surprised to see Howard line up for us in the championship. Although not quite as disappointed or surprised as when Martin Allen played Mark de Vries against Blackpool for his first game in charge. Let's get rid of DJ Cambell and Dickov. Replace both of them. I'd replace them to but not sure we'd get many takers for either of them unfortunately. Whatever happens we're going to make a huge loss on DJ.

Dickov has lost that aspect for a simple reason he's lost some of his pace due to age I'm sure Martin Allen would want DJ and he has some cash apparently too maybe we can con Billy Davies into a swap deal for Earnshaw
SPF07 Posted 4 January 2009 Posted 4 January 2009 I think yesterday definately proved that although things are going great at the moment and we in all seriousness cant complain at the way the team have performed thus far this year. Nigel definately has to be targeting a right sided midfielder and centre forward. Without Oakley who isnt actually a right winger but is doing a good job out there, we have nobody to cover at League one standard let alone higher, the same goes for up front without Joward and Fryatt. Dickov and Adams/Gradel simply arent adequate cover.

clazkel Posted 4 January 2009 Posted 4 January 2009 We are not arguing with the contribution of what SH gives to the team we are talking about WHERE the goals are going to come from if MF was to get a nasty injury, we have seen from last season that MF can be a bit injury prone. Yes i understand that and i agree with you, it is worrying where goals will come from if Fryatt gets injured, thats why Pearson needs to try and bring Chambers or DJ on if we are comfortably winning games, or even try DJ and Chambers up front together. It was the man behind me at the game yesterday that was whinging about Howard and it really annoyed me, it wasn't neccessary

I am just stating my opinion & not trying to do Niges job for him, but I would like to see him try & off load Dickov & DJ, neither of them are doing it for city, & I would put in a bid for Lee Hughes of Oldham. Proven goal scorer & could play alongside Fryatt or Howard. NP best manager since Martin O'God, so whatever he does will be OK with me. Completely agree with ya mate, in an ideal world i would have Lee Hughes over DJ + Dickov put together but im not too sure if Oldham would sell him to a division rival. I wouldnt mind Jamie Ward from Chesterfield though, think hes worth a gamble seeing as hes scoring for fun in League 2.

What he did was diabolical & he deserved to be sent down the line for it, but he's done his time, so he is now free to get on with his life. He knows how to score goals so we could use his skills. I am not condoning for one minute what he did & I am sure he still has sleepless nights about it? Fact is he's a good goal poacher. No bugger likes city anyway so what's the prob?
