Thracian.... you well know I have never been in favour of any particular manager. Rather managers having the time to prove themselves one way or another.

With Craig Levein I never once backed him or his style. I said if we were within touching distance of the drop by x date we should get rid. I think the board sacked him about 8 days after the date I had set myself 6 months earlier.

With Kelly we could not afford anyone else. Do you forget we were on the edge of going broke before Milan came in? You cannot pay a manager and his team off every six months and expect to stay in business. The guy did a good job with the resources he had (look what Holloway did with millions to spend). Once Milan was in charge I said we should set our sites higher now as we had the money... and so we did!!!

Again, I never proclaimed to be a fan of Holloway. I don't think anyone expected him to be such a spectacular failure... when it came to the crunch, I didn't have much of an opinion on what we should do. Mainly because we were in such a downward spiral, my point was I doubted a change would do much at that time. The negativity was such then I don't think even Nigel could have pulled us out of the tail spin we were in.

Just because I have asked for managers to be given more than a month (or one game in your case) does not mean I like that manager. In fact I believe I said many years ago around the time of Adams... if we keep sacking so many managers we will end up like Forest, Sheffield Wednesday, Man City and Wimbledon. And we did!!!!!!!!!

As far as the youth team goes, the cream always rises to the top naturally.... and so it has. A player has to earn the right to play, chucking someone in the first team to see how they get on is a nonsense idea.

Kelly is the only one I respect now. He had no experience, turned an awful squad round and yes, his "full" season wasn't brilliant, but compared to Holloway, he, at times, looked like he knew what he was doing.

I'm not saying he was great, he wasn't, but he gave Porter his chance. It's the other managers since that haven't trusted Levi.

My comment was aimed, not at whether you liked the manager in the first place, but how long you'd take before deciding he was a bad 'un.

We drew more or less the same conclusions over time. It was just that your time and my time were sometimes different.

As for "chucking" someone into our first team I am not sure what or who you're referrring to.

How else do you get someone into the first team if they haven't played there?

What did we do with Davies after his two years injured or Berner?

And when did Kaebi or Bori or Horsfield or Cadamarteri ever "earn" the right to play for us?

I think I've said it before and I might be wrong but you always seem to me like one of those people for whom it would never be quite the right time to use a young player. Perhaps next week or at the end of the season... anytime when it's "safe".

Indeed it was... unfortunately his good run at Plymouth blinded me to my original feelings. Bloody Plymouth... I hate them.

You can read a great deal into that and about the possible reasons for his problems at City this season. But it is pointless to speculate. I'm fairly sure how this will go.

The difference is I tend to look at things from the perspective of the people that run the club, not just what my heart says. If we were in a perfect world where money was no object I would maybe be a bit more trigger happy. I like to give people time, mainly because I've seen many managers not turn a club around within the first six months and go on to do very well, i'd say what Nigel has done is the exception rather than the rule. I also took into account each time the negativity that had been around the club for so long... I still think that was a huge problem, more than most probably think. Relegation gave us a chance the wipe the slate clean and clear the decks.

I'm referring to seeing a few people saying today that we should just "give em a go" and see how they play. That's nonsense, the manager gives the players a go in training every day. Davies and Berner certainly were never just chucked into the team, Berner was here since the summer and Davies quality must have shone in training as it has done on the pitch even then it took him 2/3 influential sub appearances to cement his place. Has Gradel done that lately when he's come on??? No. Did Sheehan ever show show much in his sub appearances? No.

Kaebi, Bori, Horsfield and Cadamarteri probably have less appearances put together than Porter does!! Two were signed by Kelly when we barely had a pot to piss in, one was signed by the chairman and the other a complete numpty who got us relegated. You can say "if we had played the kids we wouldn't of gone down" all you like... but it's as factual as me saying the opposite.

King for example. his goals this season are great... but would he have done it being a year younger, at league above and with Newton and Clemence in midfield and not Davies and Oakley? Only since Berner and later Davies coming into the team to shore up midfield has he looked better. Without his goals there would probably be a question mark hanging over him right now.

Gradel should definitely have been recalled as he was proving his worth on loan. I watched him pre season for us and he really didn't do much at the games I saw so I can understand why he was sent out on loan in the first place. ... but would it have made that big a difference? Especially with his family problems and going to and from France so often last season.

I love kids to come through and play for city, there is so much more pride watching a team of home grown talent. If I were at the training ground seeing them train every day and I saw Porter play better than Dyer consistently then I would agree with you about playing him, but none of us do.... I don't want the bloody manager to throw these player on just to prove things to fans though.

All joking aside Levi is good enough to be a squad player here and be involved. BUT... we don't know what has gone on, there were many rumours about his mental state at the beginning of the season.

exactly! people forget or dont seem to know that levi loves the citeh as much as anyone on here!!!! i can vaguely recall him strutting around the saff with a collymore shirt on in his younger days! .

people are entitled to their opinion on him of course, but hes a local lad whos gone on to represent england at every level he can so far...and we should totally be getting behind that.

! in that case crack on!!!! ive noticed thracian does have an 'affinity' with the academy lads! ..fair play though...we have a great academy that is on a par with most premiership clubs, and have produced internationals(u21, u19 you catch my drift) and we should be championing this fact....instead people seem to be all ' theyre shite, and this and that'...give the kids time!!!! porters still only 20 and has a lot to learn in the game.....bu tfrom the albeit occasional flashes, its fairly safe to assume he could be a top player one day...i hope its for us.

Interesting what you say about the nipper when placed alongside his going awol earlier in the season.

Could be no connection, of course.

But Porter strikes me as a kid growing up and, having been a young dad myself, I sincerely hope he comes through to fulfill his potential despite all his critics.
