They do say that great minds think alike.

And fools never differ :P

Keep untill the end of the season

But then only sell for a good price, dont give him away.

There aren't that many League 1/League 2 clubs with money to chuck around.

And I can't see too many teams from higher leagues chasing after him.

All league 1 and 2 clubs recieved a letter last week about his availablity although i belive it was for a loan deal

We should keep him for the rest of the season, if only as cover for Dyer.

I think the words "nominal" and "fee" will feature heavily when he leaves, though..

It's not long ago you didn't rate Kingy much either.

Young players take time to reach their peak as first team players and time, sadly, is a scarce commodity in today's money driven, instant expectation, football.

Stearman and King have already demonstrated my point. Mattock is doing so. Gradel will be next, given chance. Wesolowski probably would have done and so would Porter but for their injuries and, in Porter's case, a singular lack of opportunity under the new regime.

My concern about Porter's future is that, with no reserves team, I've no idea how he's playing now, what his problems have been, what his state of mind is etc, and those are serious handicaps on which to base judgement.

But the Porter I watched regularly is well capable or playing in Division One or Championship football.

However, he is not specifically a winger, he's a creative midfield player.

He can cope against good players as he demonstrated against Chelsea and on other occasions. Given the chance he can play anywhere across midfield because his game is essentially a passing game. Like King he has excellent technique, good balance and a quick turning circle.

He's very much like Batty or Reid on the ball. No, he's not so combative but being combative can be a curse in the modern game.

However, in possession he plays short, quick passes in the main. He moves well off the ball, doesn't ball watch and can deliver longer precision passes that split defences.

In all the football I've watched them play it would be hard to separate King and Porter for their passing ability. Both can retain possession at will and that is the Holy Grail of football. Both can shoot too.

King's big additional plus is his ability in the air as both attacker and defender but then Porter is quicker and a bit more mobile.

One is flourishing and the other is sidelined. Sometimes it is a fine line in football. But in Porter's case it is such a waste.

I'm actually past caring what the club decide on the Porter issue.

People forget. Porter wasn't part of the team that took us down. And had he been a part of that team I seriously doubt we'd ever have gone down. The same could, of course, be said about King, Gradel and Sheehan (second half) and even more so had they had all been available collectively.

Because all four represented some of the goals we didn't score and didn't make when they weren't there.

The difference between King and Porter is that one is rated (and therefore trusted) by the management, and the other clearly isn't.

Porter doesn't have the physical strength to play in his preferred position in central midfield, and is well down the pecking order as a winger, especially since Dyer and Adams arrived.

It would be a shame to see him leave, especially after the flashes of quality that he showed in the 06-07 season, as well as his brief cameo in the Chelsea game.

But he needs first-team football on a regular basis, and there seems little chance that he'll get that in the current set-up.

I didn't know that was his preferred position :S

And he played against Bham in a pre-season friendly this season didnt he? scored a pretty good goal too! Kind of gone downhill from there...

Porter is cover for Dyer in the squad this season. It's a simple as that.

He isn't doing enough to secure a place in our team, top of league one  , so I don't see how he'll make it at championship level tbh. I always thought he was too small and lightweight for the physical side of it.

Whether Dyer can cut it at championship level remains to be seen, but with Porter a clear second, I can't see him staying long. He'll go for around 150k tops if that happens.

I don't know about Dyer but I've not seen anything that suggests Adams is anywhere near as good as Porter.

There may be reasons but I cannot imagine why Porter wouldn't be trusted. He's played for years at City and been one of our most consistent performers at all levels.

I've taught stacks of teenagers and young 20s in my time and sometimes you have to accept that the hit a self-destruct button.

Problems with girls, the company they keep, money, drink, self-esteem or even with their motivation can all manifest themselves and there's no easy way of dealing with it except to let em talk things through if they wish and find a positive way out of their own.

Any manager or coach can shine when things are rosy. It's much harder to offer support and inspire a positive outlook when problems arise, either with teams or with individuals.

Me I still have faith in the lad. In fact I've never lost it.

Porter hasn't been consistent in the 1st team that's the problem, half the time he looks like he's just going through the motions and the rest he is just about average, he has simply been the best of an extremely bad bunch of recent occupants of our left wing position

Dyer has proved this season he's better then Porter on the left, Gradel showed it last season (albeit out on loan), however I am far from impressed from Adams he reminds me a lot of Porter ironically, has the ability but half the time seems lost, maybe he like Porter would be better suited in style to a central role, however like Porter he is way down the pecking order in that role

I was sitting here with a biscuit a moment ago but I think that just took it.

Porter has already played perfectly well at Championship level.

He topped our assists table in his first full season with seven and was joint sixth top scorer with three and that in only 26 starts.

Basically therefore Porter had a goal or assist every 2.6 starts in the Chamoionship, playing left wing.

Dyer has had eight goals and four assists in 23 starts playing for a settled, confident team with far more chances being created overall. That is one goal or assist virtually every two games at Divison One level.

I don't see that as representing a vast difference at all, especially as Dyer seems to be having the same trouble in shaking off markers now as Porter did when he got man marked in The Championship.

I don't see the joke with the last highlight. Porter was given a fixed position and very little assistance. He had no chance of evading two men and nor would anyone else apart from the likes of Ronaldo. It has been a problem at City for bothDyer and Gradel too and the way to get around it is to have flexibility and movement. But I shouldn't have to tell professional coaches that.

the joke is he was never man marked, they didn't need to as he couldn't be arsed to run anyway

Couple of games? Dyer's not been better than ordinary for a month or so.

Why on earth was this thread started, Pearson has made it clear by refusing to play him that Porter has little or no future at this club as long as he is manager. It's a redundant discussion at the moment unless Pearson suddenly changes his view, which is doubtful given my impression of the man.

But he has scored more goals this season that Porter has in his whole Leicester career.

Levi hasn't ever put in a performance like Dyer has when he's (Dyer) been on form this season. I think one of Dyer's ordinary performances equates to one of Levi's good ones.

I like Levi but your constant whining of why he isn't in the squad and championing of him tends to get annoying. Pearson has done a cracking job this season and contrary to last season our midfield is better, without Levi.

Let's get back to a more important issue.

Bert, who is the trialist?

He won't say. Just that Oakley is going to Forest.
