Lillehamring Posted 3 February 2009 Posted 3 February 2009 what i don't understand, is how the airports are closed... i've landed on snow in a RYANAIR! plane - surely if their pilots can cope, heathrow and birmingham should be able to cope
Joe. Posted 3 February 2009 Posted 3 February 2009 Nice lye-in today. Don't think I've ever had two days off in a row for the snow, god bless the British weather this week. Hopefully the Walsall game goes ahead tonight and it'll round off an already good day.
Libertine Posted 4 February 2009 Posted 4 February 2009 Back today, as will be most people. Don't mind as I like Wednesdays, only have one lesson and finish at 10.30. Hope it snows again though so it's closed tomorrow. >_>

Tommy G Posted 4 February 2009 Posted 4 February 2009 Teachers* are pathetic. Mainly headteachers. I have managed to get into and out of work as normal everyday this week, it's just taken me longer. who will be picking up the bill as it's cost the economy about £3.5bn... * Disclaimer: The majority of teachers.

I got up, got ready & travelled to work Monday morning to be told that it was shut. Yesterday we were told the night before & today I have come in despite there being only about 25% of the pupils in, although we were expecting more this afternoon, but who were we kidding?!
cisono Posted 4 February 2009 Posted 4 February 2009 I cancelled my work appointment early this morning. Wish I had gone. I am sure if I had, I would have not developed a stiff neck later on in the morning!!!

Everyone would soon jump on the backs of teachers and headteachers if a parents car slid in the snow and ice and knocked over a student walking.
The Stig Posted 4 February 2009 Posted 4 February 2009 No. My college was open today but I didn't go due to an ear infection. Bloody painful.
Simi Posted 4 February 2009 Posted 4 February 2009 Everyone would soon jump on the backs of teachers and headteachers if a parents car slid in the snow and ice and knocked over a student walking. Exactly. I would say most headteachers etc are just scared of the consequences. Who can blaim them with some of the moronic claims parents and just people in general get away with.
Lillehamring Posted 4 February 2009 Posted 4 February 2009 Everyone would soon jump on the backs of teachers and headteachers if a parents car slid in the snow and ice and knocked over a student walking. only if it was a teacher driving the car! based on that logic, nobody should leave their house if there is ice around. how many people in the history of schooling have been killed due to a car skidding on ice? paranoid. maybe it's time people took responsibilty and purchased snow chains - after all people spend hundreds of pounds a year on suntan lotion (despite it rarely getting into the mid 20s).
DB11 Posted 4 February 2009 Posted 4 February 2009 http://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/5day.shtml?id=2487 Heavy snow forecast - hope school's off! Teachers* are pathetic. Mainly headteachers. Guest Posted 4 February 2009 Posted 4 February 2009 Exactly. I have read that people with shared driveways, like us, who try to clear it from snow have been successfully sued for negligence for not clearing it properly when a neighbour has slipped, fell, and been injured. Madness.

And if you got into work, and were told by your boss that it was closed, would you demand to carry on working? Or would you just go home and enjoy the random day off? Just curious.
