Arriva buses are cancelled until further notice.... which is fantastic, except for the fact I'm already at work and will have a 10 mile walk home.

Which meant the day off work for me!

Had heard a rumour they were off when I got to the bus stop but then one came crawling down the road so hopped on. Then got a call from my mate saying that they were all being recalled to the depot so hopped off the bus two stops down the road and walked back home in the snow! :D

Managed to do a bit of work from home but have spent most of the morning having snowball fights and acting like a kid. Love it!

I made it into work, albeit at about 11.15am.

Pretty relaxed here today, took an extended lunch for some shopping, and my MD then bought me a sandwich. Even came to the ski shop with me. Think she wants me penis.

Arriva are bloody tinpot. How come First was running as normal?

Because First buses never go above 10mph as it is - they were in their element today!

My school is already off tomorrow as the council have decided to cancel all school transport links.:chant:

Council warns teachers over leave

A union criticised a council in Leicestershire for telling teachers they must take unpaid leave if they fail to make "reasonable efforts" to get to school in the snowy weather.

More than 300 schools in the area were shut on Monday following heavy snow - and many of them remained closed on Tuesday despite some improvements in road conditions.

The county council subsequently wrote to school governors, saying: "Failure to attend work without making reasonable efforts should result in employees being expected to take unpaid leave or make the time up.

"It is imperative that we take actions to minimise disruption in future."

National Union of Teachers regional officer for the Midlands Tony Pearce said: "There has to be a degree of trust and if that trust isn't there it's going to lead to all sorts of problems.

"I think the letter brings it into question and I would suggest it is unhelpful.

"What we don't want is endless disputes about the precise conditions in certain circumstances, which could lead to a souring of relationships with staff."

The row comes after a parents' group warned earlier this week that closing schools because of snow was teaching children a bad lesson.

Margaret Morrissey, of the Parents Outloud campaign group, said: "We are giving children the message that when things get difficult you should just stay at home and have fun. When they keep taking sick days from work when they grow up we wonder why."

An improvement in road conditions saw the vast majority of Leicestershire's schools re-opened on Wednesday, but many of them closed again after fresh snow fell overnight.

Had an Education seminar cancelled at uni when I was the only one to turn up. Yes, I did feel something of a geek.
