SOCCERROO FOX Posted 5 February 2009 Posted 5 February 2009 He really is a poor excuse for an international keeper. Which one or both. What hapened to Ambrose and i thought Read was a good keeper aswell and would be first choice
Fosse Boy Posted 5 February 2009 Author Posted 5 February 2009 Which one or both. What hapened to Ambrose and i thought Read was a good keeper aswell and would be first choice I might have been influenced by all my Essex supporting mates, but I think James Foster deserves another crack behind the stumps.
Fosse Boy Posted 5 February 2009 Author Posted 5 February 2009 Oh and Soccerroo Fox, just heard on Sky Sports about Clarke and Katich having a fight in the Aussie dressing room. What's that all about?
Corky Posted 5 February 2009 Posted 5 February 2009 Day 2 ended with the Windies on 160-1 - oh dear. Not looking good- especially with Chanderpaul still to bat.

Number 6 Posted 5 February 2009 Posted 5 February 2009 I really hate the English cricket team, in fact I hate most English national teams now, can't be arsed with them.
martyn Posted 5 February 2009 Posted 5 February 2009 Panesar making Sulieman Benn look like a god of slow left arm bowling. Harmison should have been jettisoned ages ago....totally useless. Sadly, this current England team has 2 stars and 9 average to poor international players, irrespective of what statistics may indicate.
Ultra Posted 6 February 2009 Posted 6 February 2009 Panesar is living on borrowed time. At some time in the series he'll be replaced by Swann or Rashid.

Just goes to show confidence is a lovely thing, if you got it that is. I think he should persisted with, thats Englands problem they lack consitently/stability in there side he had 3 bad innings in India and this one isn't going to good. But it only takes a dodgy lbw decsion, followed by a catch down at long on off a tailender and his got some confidence back.

The problem with Monty is, without a true ability to bat or field, his bowling is all he really offers, so when that doesn't work, it's almost as if we are carrying a player. Swann offers more.
Fox You Forest Posted 6 February 2009 Posted 6 February 2009 It's setting the Ashes up nicely, Two shite teams who can't buy a win doing battle.

Yeah but i hate that crap about pick him because he can bat a bit, even tho his a lesser bowler and is picked in the side as a bowler. Australia is doing the same crap at the moment. picking a number 6 based on the fact he can bowl a bit. and only giving him a couple of overs every second match. When we are there are 5 other better batsment that can bat at 6.
Milky Posted 6 February 2009 Posted 6 February 2009 Gayle and Sarwan are world class batsmen. Apart from KP they're better than anything we've got. No shame in not knocking them over cheaply. The thing with the WI is that once they lose Gayle, Sarwan and Chanderpaul, they very often collapse. Let's stick in there and see.

SOCCERROO FOX Posted 6 February 2009 Posted 6 February 2009 What has happened to you lot?I've never seen you this poor before. Take Hayden, Langer, Martyn, Symonds, Gilchrist, Lee, Warne, Mcgrath and a few of the next tier players out of the side such as Stewy Clark, Magill, Watson and Jaques and it was always likley to happen we lost too many players too retirement in a short space of time, compounded with Injuries. Best thing is that is there finally starting to blood some youngsters, more debutants in the last 12 months than you can poke a stick at and Corky you heard the name Phillip Hughes next superstar here first
SamL Posted 6 February 2009 Posted 6 February 2009 He really is a poor excuse for an international keeper. He seems to be the best batsman out of the keepers we've tried, but the poorest keeper. I prefer him to Ambrose.
Fosse Boy Posted 6 February 2009 Author Posted 6 February 2009 He seems to be the best batsman out of the keepers we've tried, but the poorest keeper. I prefer him to Ambrose. I honestly think there is still something to be said for specialist keepers who don't bat so well. Ideally it's nice to have both, but I'd prefer a world class gloveman to a decent middle order batsman who's not so good behind the stumps any day. That said, I'm struggling to think of any keepers like that!
Uncle Albert Posted 6 February 2009 Posted 6 February 2009 I said get Jones back in the England setup ages ago! And i'm still waiting. Ian Bell should be dropped before the Ashes, at the minute he is awful and if this continues we are going to be in the shit because he bats in the hardest position I feel. Drop him for Owais Shah and move KP upto number three. I swear some doughnut posted that Peitersen is England's only world class batsmen? Thats laughable we probably have the most naturally gifted batsmen around in our Country/World but he is back at the ECB Academy working on his form and hopefully in the side for The Ashes. Michael Vaughan. Anyone know if Simon Jones is fit enough yet to be back in contention?
Corky Posted 6 February 2009 Posted 6 February 2009 Why has Hoggard been completely discarded from the set-up? He's more effective than Harmison. Agree with Albert about Simon Jones and Vaughan. Vaughan can also help Strauss with the captaincy.
martyn Posted 6 February 2009 Posted 6 February 2009 It has to be time to start looking at alternative bowling options. Harmison has had it, he looks so innocuos it's untrue and if he isn't bowling consistently 88mph+ he's worthless (he's averaging like 83mph this test match ffs). Broad is still too green and needs an extended spell in county cricket/the gym to improve his bowling, Sidebottom is only decent with the new ball against average sides and Panesar is ridiculously bereft of confidence....if he gets hit to the boundary, he just resorts to firing it in at 60mph. Flintoff is the only guy who looks a threat and can pose the batsmen problems. Agree about Bell as well, he has all the talent in the world but flatters to deceive time and time again. Shah deserves his chance and has done for a while. Corky, word from the county circuit is that Hoggard has lost that yard of pace and ability to bowl the heavy ball. A guy I play cricket with is Chief Executive of Kent CCC and this was the information he relayed.
Joe. Posted 6 February 2009 Posted 6 February 2009 Panesar is proving to be of no value whatsoever to England at the moment. His bowling is doing the team no favours at all. First of all he bowls way too fast for a spinner, effectively taking all the usefulness from the action away from it. There's no variation in his bowling either, much too easy to bat against. And Bell's another one. Admired and sstill highly rated by many, but how consistent is he? Not very is the answer. He'll always seem to get around the 30 mark before bowing out in some silly manner. We all know he's got the ability, and technically he's one of England's best batsmen, but if he carries on underperforming then his place in the side will not be warranted.
Uncle Albert Posted 6 February 2009 Posted 6 February 2009 Why has Hoggard been completely discarded from the set-up? He's more effective than Harmison. Harmison was selected for this test because we all know what he can do out in the Windies. 7-12. We'll say nomore. Hoggard should be in the setup but again Hoggard is abit like Harmison one good ball followed by five nothing balls. We have no consistency at the minute apart from Flintoff who looks the real deal again with the ball. This is why I want Simon Jones back because before his first major injury before the 05 Ashes he was one of the quickest English bowlers averaging 90+ alot of the time. Its not the bowling that I am worried about in this series or heading into the Ashes, its the lack of big scoring we are failing to hit. To many of our batters are getting out for single figures or 10-30 runs. Which at International level isnt good. We have about 3 players in an innings that hit a reasonable score. Its just not good enough. Cook is another who is dropping his form and needs to have a think.
