West Indies v England

Might be controversial, but I think Collingwood has had his day as well. He has been saved recently by posting a decent score when under pressure for his place, but then resorts to scracthing around making batting look like the hardest thing on earth. His position has not been scrutinised owing to the lack of form of Bell.

I'd be attempting to shoehorn both Shah and Bopara into the side.

His fielding is vital to us. Can offer a bit with the ball too.

Rather have him than Bell.

I don't think that's controversial at all. I think it's sane. But these days, Central Contracts talk and everything else walks. The ECB feel they have to justify giving out Central Contracts so for as long as we continue with this (in my opinion) worthless policy, the likes of Collingwood etc. will keep their place at the expense of others on the county scene.

In my opinion, fielding ability should not come into consideration when attempting to pick the best side for a test match. ODI's possibly, but certainly not tests. Bopara is a decent fielder and can get through some overs as well.

We're getting done over by this referral malarkie! Damn technology getting decisions correct.

I'm not a fan. It's an affront to God I tell thee!

Maybe we should just do away with umpires and wheel out two robots to officiate instead?

100 for Gayle - Well played I guess...but I can't shake the feeling of embarrassment. :dunno:

It's absolutely typical. The only time I don't want the Windies to do well in international cricket is when they play us. And look what happens.

Oh I know he is...along with Sarwan as well. I guess you could say I was one of those who thought England would steam-roll them! Oops!

Refer that!

:D

Gayle is top note, so entertaining. But I always feel that he gets 100's or into the 80's easily, but then gets out without pushing for a 150 etc.

As someone posted a moment ago, I always like the Windies to do well - it's a shame that such a force from the 80's and early 90's has fallen away so much. Encouraging signs for them at the moment.

Well that's Gayle gone. :sweating:

Chanderpaul is the only world class man left, so lets see what else they've got.

I said get Jones back in the England setup ages ago! And i'm still waiting.

Ian Bell should be dropped before the Ashes, at the minute he is awful and if this continues we are going to be in the shit because he bats in the hardest position I feel. Drop him for Owais Shah and move KP upto number three.

I swear some doughnut posted that Peitersen is England's only world class batsmen? Thats laughable we probably have the most naturally gifted batsmen around in our Country/World but he is back at the ECB Academy working on his form and hopefully in the side for The Ashes. Michael Vaughan.

Anyone know if Simon Jones is fit enough yet to be back in contention?

I've always said we should play our best batsman at number three, therefore KP should play in that position. I'd also play Shah at 4 and Collingwood at 5.

Personally, I think Geraint Jones is the best all round keeper we've got. We've got keepers who can bat but can't keep and vise versa, but I believe Jones is the better all round keeper out of the ones we've tried. Since 2005, we haven't had a settled keeper and we've paid for it.

Yup.

I said the exact same statement in another thread about the best batsmen batting at number three.

No he's bloody well not. He had a good season for Worcestershire in '08 but needed surgery towards the end of the season.

KP is scared of number 3. Doesn't like it.

Exactly. If Pietersen wanted to bat at number 3 then he would have done by now, in fact I may be wrong but the few times KP has batted at 3 he has performed badly.

The England bowling attack is no where near as good as some people seem to think, I don't think Broad is a test standard bowler just yet, despite his 2 wickets today. Harmison has no plan B if the pitch doesn't suit him, Sidebottom is decent, nothing more and Monty's career has gone completely stale and is easy to play against. Swann might have played this match had he not bowled loads of overs against the West Indies A and took 0-100+.

And Sarwan should have been given out on 5, it was a close call but I don't think the 3rd umpire could prove for sure that the umpire decision was wrong, and in that case the umpires decison should stand.
