Milky Posted 17 February 2009 Posted 17 February 2009 Swann is the man today !! Just got his 5 wicket haul Monty needs to sort himself out quickly
Cobbo Posted 17 February 2009 Posted 17 February 2009 Not enforcing the follow on. Batting them out of the game I imagine then go at them all guns blazing.
Uncle Albert Posted 17 February 2009 Posted 17 February 2009 Go on Swanny! Anyone got a link? I love watching England bat.
Sparky Posted 17 February 2009 Posted 17 February 2009 Not happy with the desision , fooking put them back in and we go again
Cobbo Posted 17 February 2009 Posted 17 February 2009 Not happy with the desision , fooking put them back in and we go again The quikies might be shattered Not so cold over that way I hear. Although I'd always want to put them back in myself, as you say Sparks.
Uncle Albert Posted 17 February 2009 Posted 17 February 2009 England v Windies. Yes then! Hope England start playing a few shots when they have got themselves in against the new ball.

There is only 50 minutes left and they get a good rest , hope it does not backfire . What you reckon Cobbs hit a quick 200 ?
Milky Posted 17 February 2009 Posted 17 February 2009 I suppose it give the pitch a chance to deteriorate a bit more before we bowl at them again.

Fosse Boy Posted 17 February 2009 Author Posted 17 February 2009 Shot, Straussy! Can't beat a good Chinese Cut!
Fox You Forest Posted 17 February 2009 Posted 17 February 2009 Good old West Indies, There always good for some comedy fielding.
Napoleon In Rags Posted 17 February 2009 Posted 17 February 2009 Odd decision not enforcing the follow on. Can only think they dont want to bat 4th on a deteriorating pitch but still?!
SamL Posted 17 February 2009 Posted 17 February 2009 Odd decision not enforcing the follow on. Can only think they dont want to bat 4th on a deteriorating pitch but still?! I wouldn't say it's an odd decision. With two of our premium strike bowlers nursing injuries and illness (Flintoff and Harmison), it's better to give them a bit of rest. Bat them out of the game, get a lead of 400+, and leave over a day to bowl the West Indies out again. It'll be interesting to see when Strauss declares, one of his first tests as Captain.

But with the momentum with the bowers surely it would be better for them to continue bearing in mind there were not many overs left in the day when we bowled them out so they could rest overnight. And Swann seemed to be making the greatest impact so thats one end sorted while the fast bowlers can rotate. I always think the follow on is an advantage so should be used. But either way a great day for England.

But either way a great day for England. Personally, I think the follow on is an advantage but taking everything into account, I think Strauss made the right decision. Considering the heat yesterday and the fact that Harmison and Flintoff were struggling with illness and injury, it was the right decision to try to bat them out of the game.
purpleronnie Posted 18 February 2009 Posted 18 February 2009 Its probably just me but I dont agree with night watchmen, if your a top batsmen you should be able to cope with a few overs at the end.
Milky Posted 18 February 2009 Posted 18 February 2009 We need to pick up the pace. Just treading water at the moment.
welck12 Posted 18 February 2009 Posted 18 February 2009 Its probably just me but I dont agree with night watchmen, if your a top batsmen you should be able to cope with a few overs at the end. Does seem pointless to me as well, esp seen as the watchman will do better coming out and just having a go at the end of the innings to score couple of runs as oppose to just taking up space at the top. Was surpirsed by not enforcing the follow on; can partly understand it due to players being unfit, sick, etc. But they only had hour or so left before a night off, plus could have just had swann bowl at least half the overs last night. We need to pick up the pace. Just treading water at the moment. But if we do pick the pace up and pile the runs on quickly, have a quick half hour before lunch then day and a half to bowl them out, makes sense from that point of view
