Playmaker?

Okay, I don't want to sound like a p***k who has only thought we need this because we're crap atm.

But, I have thought this for a while, and maybe with a player like Dyer, but who stays in form for longer and in a more central position, might be a bonus for the team.

Surely theres got to be a tonne of South Americans wanting to play in England?

Have a go at me all you like, but it's my opinion, so I don't care.

EDIT: Have not seen them play for 3 seasons, so I'm only going by what's off here.

You can't just ship in a south american, in general to get a work permit they will need to have played in 75% of their national sides games, highly unlikely we could afford a player like that.

some one like mark davies that looked lively and was always looking to create. when one person is lively and creating space and such youll find that the other players will be more inspired to use what the player would be creating.

Like with Lloyd Dyer. As you said and as we have seen he seems to have gone downhill. But when he was on form he was always looking to create by running at players and getting round them which created space. The other players looked more likely to do something during those games.

We need to follow Wigan's example, take a chance on overseas players and tell the really decent ones that Leicester would be a stepping stone for them.

We did last season and it failed rather badly.

Hellings, Nielsen, Kaebi?

Even if they played for Surinam?

Erm - Dyer isn't a playmaker, he's a winger who is short on energy.

We do have someone though...

whispers: Levi Porter

Regardless, it isn't Davies we are missing - it is a combination of things. His going coincided with teams playing us for the second time and changing the manner of play based on what worked for other teams or themselves during the first half of the season.

Running at our full-backs, crossing from the line, being physical and closing down across the pitch (coupled with man marking Fryatt and Howard) has limited our ability to play. It means that matches tend to be paced and result in a lot of long balls, which is the modus operandi of your average Div3 team in a cup game.

We could have Davies back for Saturday and still struggle against the new game plan being universally employed by the opposition.

It all means that we need to have a bit of luck as well as working hard. For all of Dyer's shortcomings at the moment, no one could accuse him or the team of not working hard. Dyer could barely walk off the pitch on Tuesday because he'd run himself into the ground...not helped by his chasing lost causes from one diagonal end to the other.

Last Saturday we could have had three goals if the ball had gone in off the woodwork - and soon those 50/50 shots will be going in again at which point we will look commanding again as teams are left to chase the game.

Hartlepool fought for their last goal, we didn't sit back and allow it to happen. Swindon and Oldham fought for their draws too and I enjoyed all three matches. Rovers will have a game plan which replicates the teams we've just played and a central playmaker would simply get kicked to bits.

Personally I see King as more of a playmaker than anybody else; his strengths definitely lie in this side of the game. He's definitely got the ability to pick out a range of passes, despite now really showing it at much as he probably could. Maybe it's because Oakley takes more of a central role, I'm not too sure. On this note, I think Oakley has what it takes to play the role as well, it's not like he lacks the ability.

Right now the problems in our side are not with the central midfield, but the wings. Until we've got a proper left side partnership going we're going to continue to be a little impaired.

True, but I've got a lot more faith in Pearson, Shakespeare and Walsh than I ever did with Allen and his bunch of muppets.

That was a bit of a mockery last season on the scouting behalf. Can remember they were here for only a few weeks before they lost there jobs. Think everyone had clocked on that they had no scouting ability at all and youtube was there source or they were forest fans in disguise. lol

What we need to do is keep developing English born players properly. At the moment they are not getting a chance because of the huge influx of foreign chancers, many of whom are no better than the home grown alternatives, often sit on a bench but who would be quite good or very good in their own country.

No-one would complain about the Bergkamps and Drogba's - people who lift the overall standard by example and who increase the entertainment value of our football - but we saw the other side of the foreign coin at Leicester last season and pretty grim it looked to me.

I'm sick of it and the England team has become something of a joke since the trend started and I just wonder if the penny will ever drop.

The sooner we have a situation where only, say, four foreign players are allowed in any squad of 16 the better. The present so-called restrictions are meant to help tackle this problem - a sure admission that the authorities acknowledge there is a problem - but it doesn't go anywhere near far enough.

Apart from anything else, those extra foreigners are needed to benefit and develop the game in their own countries, just like all the foreign nurses and other hospital staff we import because we fail to train enough of our own.

Hartlepool did fight for their equaliser, as they fought for the rest of the game, but for the only time in the match we willingly conceded al the ground up to 10 yards in front of the penalty box and this was the root cause of our undoing.

Had we denied Pools time and space high up the pitch I doubt they'd have ever put the match winning move together.

We've done exactly the same before and with the same consequences.

Spot on mate. :appl:

If your a youngster getting into football and your surname is smith/jones etc add a inho or a ini at the end and then you might get picked.

What happened to Aman Verma? give him ago i say

HELLO!!!!

What the guy who played in that quality reserve side that lost to the Uni lads the other day.

Lets be realistic hey, he isnt gonna even make the bench this season and i will be shocked if kept on after the summer!

We have enough in the squad to get to the finish, if a lucky loan player of Davies quality comes available then fair enough but i doubt it hey!

I suspect that if there was a quality playmaker available at the right price and willing to come to us the club would sign him. I don't think it needs anyone from here to suggest it before it would cross their minds.

I'm not sure we do, I think Berner in midfield with King we have the ingredients to create chances whilst not leaving ourselves open at the same time. Unfortunately though with Chris Powell unable to play that often it means that heap of sh1t Mattock has to play left back  .

Fair play, i havent heard much about him. I just remembered when he first came a few people on here were raving about him.

I always think this! Almost all south americans are technically very good and very creative, its just a matter of wether they can step up too the high tempo of english football and the 'dirty' work.

That's a pretty bold statement, I've seen south americans who can hardly kick a ball. Have you tried watching some of the south american league matches, the standard often appears pretty poor to me. Try watching a league like the J-league where they bring in south american playmakers to build teams around, it's terrible football in the main.

A balanced approach to developing and buying players is what is needed and what we seem to have at the moment, short term quick fix signings of unknown foreign players was tried last year, as previously mentioned in this thread, and look where that got us.

Really???

At the end of this season we will lose a minimum of 11 players from our matchday squad. (5 loanees, 4 pensioners, Henderson back to Oz and DJ who clearly wants out.) And that's before anyone comes sniffing around our better players!

Should we get to the Championship, I can see just 1 player (Tunchev when he recovers) nailed on to start from the players we have remaining, and 4 or 5 who should get the chance to step up. The rest will not make a championship starting XI.

So around 10 new players needed next season, just to give us a first team squad, that is not building for the future!
